I posted this on another forum and got only a little help, so I thought that I'd post it here.

I know plenty of ways to rig up a half-assed bong, but I want to make one that'll look nice and last for a long time.

Here's my idea:

Two coconuts (one for water, the other for smoke to collect in), bamboo (one thick stalk for the mouthpiece, a thinner one for the stem connecting the bowl to the water chamber, and some kind of nice-looking bowl.

Make holes, drink coconut milk, scrape out meat, etc.

Make two big holes in the top smoke chamber: one for the bamboo mouthpiece and one to connect the water chamber. One big hole and one small hole in the water chamber: big one for the smoke chamber to attach to, small one for the downpipe.

Smoke chamber sits on top of water chamber, holes matched up and whatnot.

What would be best for attaching these components? Must be heat-resistant, not subject to corrosion from smoke, and it must either look nice or be able to be made nice-looking (like if it's hot glue, I could wrap it in something).

NOTE: Adhesives (or other methods of attaching parts) must be non-toxic and must melt/burn at a higher temperature than would be reached in/on the bong. I don't want to inhale poisonous glue fumes.

Maybe no one wants to help you because it's a stupid idea. But if you do make one, take a pic of it and prove me wrong.

What is this, gilligan's island? I never heard of making a bong out of coconuts, but on Gilligan's Island they tied a string to 2 coconuts and made a telephone out of it. Maybe you should make a telephone out of your coconuts, and call someone at a hardware store. That's where you go to make a bong, not on a three hour tour... A three hour tour...

Damn, bong-making used to be an art form.

If you can't be constructive, why bother replying? Either explain why it wouldn't work, help me make it work, or stop trying to masturbate your ego by talking down to me. Being new to this forum doesn't make me stupid.

My bad, I didn't mean to sound condescending, I just wanted to throw in those gilligan's island references. I hear you on the noob status, lots of people don't take noobs seriously. Sorry about being one of those people, I try not to.

To be honest bro, I think your best bet is to use epoxy to make all your attachments. Thats what most constructors of bongs use that I know.

Oh, and make sure you mix that coconut milk with some rum and ice cubes, you'll have a nice cocktail.

Part of the reason I busted your balls a little is because I like to be able to see the smoke accumulate in the bong, so I know how big of a hit I'm getting.

Anyways sorry if I sounded like an a-hole, but I really want you to make one and show me a picture of it, cause you do seem pretty determined.

No offense taken, RIP. I hear you on being able to see into the chamber, though; a lot of people have said that. And I was actually thinking of saving the coconut milk and making some bhang when I get the ingredients (have to go to an Indian grocery store for the spices, and have to get some weed somewhere, an ounce is fucking expensive).

P.S. Where in Mass are you?

Cape Cod bro. If you're in my neighborhood you can swing by the house and we can match a couple bong loads - one out of my glass bong, and one out of your Gilligan's Island bong. Good luck to you, and I really want to see the final product.

use high-heat epoxy, the stuff they use for water-heaters and the like. you can pick some up at any hardware store, it comes in two seperate tubes and you mix it together and slather it on and wait a day. If memory serves, it's rated up to 300 degrees once it's dried.

haha that sounds like, if you could manage it, a badass bong... i would cut the coconuts in half to scrape them and epoxy them back together as tho they were always whole.... also sand of the bottom of the base coconut(s) or whatever so that that they will stand up without fallin over

Actually, I've read accounts of doing single-coconut bongs and the meat was successfully scraped out with an ordinary spoon through the mouthpiece hole, but I'll consider cutting it in half.. RIP, I will definitely swing by if I visit Cape Cod.

Thanks, everyone, and I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on the progress once I get it started. Most certainly will I take pictures.

would the coconut rot or anything?

I imagine that the gilligan's island situation would look a little more like this:

I suppose you wouldn't have to worry about dropping your bong and breaking it. Then again, the bamboo might snap off at a seam.

sounds like a pretty good idea. BUt it might be difficult to suck the smoke throught he water into such a small passage?

Coconut bongs are hype, so far I have constructed two of them. Here are some pics of my first coconut bong, it's not nearly as professional as my most recent one (I gave the new one to my brother for christmas).

This one I sadly cut in half to get the meat out of it, putting it back together was a pain and a half. I used a metal pen tube as the stem, it's the perfect diameter though, bowls just slide into the stem without screwing and they actually stay there. I used bathroom clear caulking to hold the stem to the coconut, so far so good, it hasn't melted, burned or given off noxious fumes. I meant for this to be a water bong, but you get a lot of splash back so it's just a regular bong. The inside and outside have been coated in urethane, which once dried doesn't give off fumes and is water proof.

I'll check if I have some pictures of the other coconut bong... it's so much better... proper gromets holding a proper stem in place, it has a choke hole, and it wasn't cut in half!

I do indeed have some images of the improved coconut bong... I put two together for your viewing enjoyment.

Uhhh, when I mounted it to the base, I should have angled this one a bit differently... this one still gets a little splash-back, but not too much.

My next cocobong will be my crowning achievement, thinking of putting a bamboo stem in it to prevent splash-back.
