Beginners question about lighting

alright I am planning on growing about ten plants in my closet. I plan on getting a 600watt metal haliade and a 1000watt HPS. Is that enough light for a small closet of ten plants?

More then enough. The HPS will help put more weight on and the MH will help the plant produce more thrichomes.

Lots of heat there....I assume you are only lighting the tops of the plants and not using it as enhanced side lighting. You may want to think about 2 600 and save the extra heat. Make sure you use air-cooled hoods or cool tubes and install Mylar on all walls, the door and ceiling. Monitor the temperature under the lights at the top of your plants and don't let it get to hot on them or you could have major problems.

yeah, without good ventilation you're gonna have heat probs from the 600w alone. i've got a 460 sunagro and had to add a suck and blow system (2 daytons) to keep it cool enough when the doors are closed. luckily they're in a mobile home/trailer where easy access to the outside could be had thru the floor. but even with that once summer comes you won't have cool air to bring in and will need a/c...you'll have to either cool with your room a/c or bring in a portable. can you get by on less wattage? i think without a/c i think you're gonna have probs using that much...

how much light is too much for 10 plants in a 4*5 closet. meaning what temperature will the plants start to burn and how high should the light be from the plants?

the plants will burn if too close to the light at 90 but thats because of how hot the light is if you plan on growing you might want to think about having smaller sized plants say 12inches when you put them into flowering and devide your closet into 2 seperate spaces you only need a vegetative room of about 2 feet and a flowering room of about 3feet to 3 and a half i get a yeild of about 3 pounds with this system peace

JEZZUS man, that much light in one small closet? Like putting 20 pounds of shit in a 2 pound bag bubba. Hope to hell you have smoke detectors in your house, you just might need them. Better get some fans in there or you will have lost before you even get started. That much heat is going to shrivel the hell out of whats left of those plants..
