"In awarding President Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian committee is honoring his intentions more than his achievements. After all he has been in office only just over eight months and he will presumably hope to serve eight years, so it is very early in his term to get this award. ... The committee does not make any secret of its approach. It states that he is being given the prize 'for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples."

maybe one day i'll be good at math or physics so how about they send me one to?

is it just me or does anyone think this is crazy? he can't keep his own country at peace or present a copy of a legitimate birth certificate but he has good intentions. WTF!?

you can get the full link here (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/10/09/nobel.peace.prize/index.html).

Ill avoid the whole birther part of this.

I cant believe anyone was suprised.....the award is a crock these days, a relic of the past. The fact that this was decided 12 days into his presidency is the real story....I mean get real. He is becoming Jimmy Carter faster than Carter did.

I really cant figure out their strategy, its been a terrible 1st year for Obama I dont care how you vote....if they think America is gonna enjoy watching Obama toot his own horn while overseas AGAIN, they are wrong. So congrats I guess. America will still be discontent when you and the wifey return.

though i realize the nobel prizes were developed as nothing more than a mechanism to assuage that family's guilt over the destruction wrought by good old al's great invention and the fortune he amassed in the armaments industry, i can't help but find it a bit sad that an award that could be used to recognize mankind's great achievements is used instead for such petty political ends. the peace prize seems to be consistently given out to glorify those who do little for peace and more for the spread of that committee's agenda. the pseudo-marxist attitude of the world's leaders seems reflected more and more in each international decision, an attitude bent on wealth redistribution and the tearing down of any existing power structures. not that many of those power structures don't need to be demolished, but what they are replaced with is even more important than that they be destroyed. the power vacuum being created by the systematic destruction of the influence of the accepted world powers must be filled and, though they may claim to be creating a classic dictatorship of the proletariat, this attempt by the world leadership to consolidate power is rather obvious. instead of promoting freedom, we see an authoritarian regime slowly taking shape as the old guard is put to bed.

anyone capable of questioning the intent of the powerful can see why brak was chosen for this dubious honor. it certainly wasn't for anything he has accomplished. even his most ardent supporters can't point to any great deeds performed by this administration. we can't honestly believe it is for his intentions. many people want world peace and if simple desire was enough to warrant such adulation, we would all be taking yearly trips to sweden. no, the rationale behind this choice is simply the great strides our government has taken this year toward the obliteration of america's influence on the world stage. brak has made the rounds since his inauguration, apologizing profusely for america's lack of empathy, ignoring our longstanding position as an advocate for peace and our continuing efforts to relieve the burdens of poverty across the globe, and kowtowing to the rising leaders of the socialist movement, raising them above the lowly status they deserve and degrading america's image at the same time. i'm sure his moves toward erasing two centuries of individual liberty in this country were also of influence in his selection. not since roosevelt has our government done more to free itself from the bonds of popular opinion and this can only have a positive effect for the totalitarian schemes that are springing up around the world. the hope that brak's cult of personality could rival stalin's, considering the nearly irreparable damage old joe did to his country, must have the world leaders foaming at the mouth in anticipation of america's impending doom.

i would love to feel some pride at having a nobel peace prize land on our shores, just as i would have loved to be proud of america for having elected a black man to our highest office, but the motives behind this choice leave me with merely a feeling of dread. this blatant attempt to shore up a totalitarian agenda in the eyes of the world is just another slap in the face of the ideals that this country was founded on and another nail in the coffin for the concept of individual liberties. there are fewer and fewer hopes each year for some power to take a stand against the hive mentality that is being forced on the people of the world, less and less chance of each nation retaining its sovereignty in the face of global authority. another wannabe dictator is being raised up to demigod status today and thankfully we have just enough slack in our chains to applaud.

I am honestly baffled. Cindy Sheehan is more deserving than Obama! Obama has perpetuated the wars of his predecessor. I guess thats worth a peace prize?

I saw that skit, it was funny and a bit of a shock coming from SNL. Any President, regardless of party affiliation, if they say or do rediculous stuff, should be mocked endlessly. Chevy Chase did an AMAZING Gerald Ford. Ferrell and Bush were also classic. Obama and team are a treasure chest of material, take advantage Hollywood!!!!! America needs a good laugh lately, keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously.

Even better, state-run CNN actually did a "fact check" of their comedy skit.....pretty pathetic.

I am not surprised.....a little disgusted, but not surprised. Obama has captivated the world with his NLP speeches. The first time I heard him talk this little part inside me started feeling like it was floating around, all happy, and full of "hope". Then I checked myself, and realized he utilized techniques from Neuro Linguistic Programming. His speech patterns, his "Magical Voice" all show a mastery of these techniques. He has hypnotized a Nation, and somewhat a large portion of the modernized world.

I have friends who are kind, compassionate, intelligent people, and they fell for his spells. When I question them to come up with a list of what the man (Obama) has actually done that has benefited anyone other than the usual Elite, I am met with a level of anger, and frustration at having their Rising Star questioned.

He is being groomed every step of the way. The puppet strings are clearer than ever, and yet American's cannot see them. The Elite can operate right out in the open now, and the masses applaud as their folly is served fresh daily. It's strange to watch, but I have to remember to keep my heart open and remember that beyond the Ain Soph, there is a benevolent Light. Darkness has crept over the world, and the sad thing is....it is masquerading as hope, and change, and love. Just look at a Jay-Z show. People throwing up the Triangle of Manifestation as Jay-Z weaves his spell. Their power has peaked at this time, but it is always before the Fall that this occurs. Their Will shall crumble, but it will look bleak for a while. Maintain your hearts my friends.

Oh? Did you make an account on here just to spread your hate? I, sadly voted for Obama. I got caught up in his magical "Hope" buzz that was spreading around. I was excited at the prospect of a black president. But it turns out he's the same as the rest of them. Before you make a bold statement like that, try a little education, then try to open your mind beyond the program's that you have been fed. Once you have succeeded at removing your sheep's wool, then maybe you can make some comments that help others. Do you see how your comment is only an attack? It contains nothing of use except to further your own concept being right. When you have information that shows what benefits Obama has brought this country, and this world, than please share them. I will listen with an open mind. Until then, you are just a pest. Shoo fly. Back to the throne of fear with you. :toilet_claw:

You, mind friend, are PROJECTING. YOU are reducing Obama's identity solely to his race...not us. I think you should take a deeper look inside yourself and your attitudes towards race.

Your a therapist no kiddidng? I had some bad ones when I was a kid in the early 90's, putting me on all kinds of drugs that really hurt me mentally I think. Once I quit the meds I got a new guy about 8 years ago that just talked with me.......got me through some hard shit....made me a better person. No meds, he sent me on a Skinner Brothers mountain climbing thing, in Montana, in the middle of nowhere, in the Mountains. It was amazing. Never forget it.

I rarely prescribe meds. Most of my med patients are kids with autism or bipolar. I push therapy, whether it's intense family-based or less intense outpatient. Some therapists are better than others at figuring out the best way to utilize therapy for each individual client; and some just give out meds to collect the paychecks. Sounds like you got what you need though

Well, one doesn't go into the mental health field for the money, that's for sure. I work 40 hours a week and can barely cover our mortgage, bills, and student loan payments.

As for autism, the short version (there is a much more complication answer, but I won't go into it) is that our knowledge and awareness of autism is increasing, which is why more kids are diagnosed with it. In the past, kids who should have been diagnosed with autism were grouped together with kids with mental retardation, and "treated" the same. Clinicians realized that autism is not mental retardation, and the needs of a kid with autism are obviously different.

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for one thing - getting elected president in a country that has never had a woman or a person of color as its leader.

I expect an Oscar, a Tony and a Pulitzer will all follow, and all will be equally deserved.

The Nobel is great news for Obama and for America, but is bad news for the Rev. Al, Jesse and me, as the prize committees have now met their quota.

no offense or anything man...but ireland is roughly the size of our state of indiana. here are the numbers i got off of yahoo answers:

Ireland : 70,280 sq km (27,140 sq miles)
USA : 9,826,630 sq km (3,794,000 sq miles)

That's quite a big difference. There's a ton of open space here. Hell I know people that have to drive forty miles one way to get to work. If gas was 6.60 a gallon here. We'd be fucked. It sucks that you have to pay that much for gas. The whole gas situation sucks...but when you have to drive as much as we do in unpopulated areas....high gas prices really mess up your finances.

sorry, know this is a little late, but i had to say something.

please elaborate on racist ignorance. i am still trying to figure out how everyone labels obama as black. his mom was WHITE, which, for all intents and purposes makes him WHITE! just like if she was a catholic it would make him the same.

no one ever brought that up. it's the fact that he's a lying moron who got awarded something for what he's supposedly trying to accomplish. let's give it to a fifth grader that's good at math hoping he solves some insane equation in the future.

there is a big difference between rap and hip hop by the way. although they are similar, they are not one and the same. hip hop has a message, usually positive about moving forward and righting wrongs (kinda like how it started). and like all music it goes beyond gender, race, color, creed or religion. it breaks down walls and helps unite people on common grounds.

by the way, obama called kanye a jackass, does that make him a racist?

As I was reading this thread I was thinking to myself " No, you can't get involved in this stupidity..." but...here I am doing so. I find it amusing that when it suits one's purposes, being half- white makes a person" ... for all intents and purposes...white", but those who would judge a person based solely on the color of one's skin tend to argue that much smaller percentages of black blood would make a person black. The amusing thing is that I can't for the life of me see a difference between the two assumptions. I guess I'm the racist. To get a little closer to the point, given the nature of this whole set of forums (why we're here, I thought), Mr. Obama has been singularly unimpressive on the issue of Marijuana and its place in our society. so don't get involved in this stupidity next time. i'm merely going by govt classification purposes. i could care about half white or half black or whatever. it just cracks me up for people running around saying we have a black president. you know, all the black people. the same one's who are now complaining about the facts that obama has done nothing for "them". as a matter of fact he hasn't done anything said he would do and mostly re-nigged on those promises of "change". you can label me racist or whatever you want. i've been called worse. i just moved out of the hood though. i've seen it first hand. not of non-existent "news" program reports.

it's also funny that this is only applicable when it's a "black" man in office. how many black people complained about oh, let's say the 43 presidents that came before barry soetoro? yeah, thought so. so it can't be racist one way and not the other. and since we are on the subject, can someone removed jimmy carter from barry's dick?!?! he's the first one to call racism. what the fuck ever. like america didn't know this would happen. the first minority elected was bound to have a rough time. if it was a woman we'd all be sexist. the next minority elected is going to have a much worse time. especially if barry can't right the ship. or produce a birth certificate for that matter.
(we won't touch the fact that he's possibly not a citizen of this country. there are ongoing court battles for that.)

so labeling something doesn't suit my purpose. we all know obama is full of shit and won't do anything for mj. this thread was started to show what a joke it was that he received a NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. and for what? something he's trying to accomplish. i'm trying to grow amazing bud. perhaps i should win one for horticulture?
