All depends on the quality and intensity of the light, ambient temperature, humidity, and the strain.
If you really want an answer, you'll have to give us more information.
Even then, all you can get is an educated guess.

my experience has been:...once the plant has basically stopped growing; the trichs begin to turn from mostly cloudy to some amber in 1-2 weeks. I take samples of bud leaf from the top, middle and bottom of the plant, once a day.
the trichs don't all turn amber at once...it's a gradual change...1%...5%...10%...etc....

High D. P.
"you must spread..."
Of course that assumes an outdoor grow, yah?
I get a different take with leds.
There's no UV at all so I can just keep piling the trichs on and let them ALL turn cloudy without frying any of them off.
Now I'm ripening under leds then hitting them with 4-6 hours of direct sun which very rapidly turns the trich caps amber.
But, as Dreadedhermie pointed out, that color change may be cosmetic in nature and is merely a convenient indicator for us, in sunlight.
Got a couple weeks of curing to go and I'll have a side by side bake-off with "tanned" vs milky, cloistered buds of the same plant.:weedpoke:

All my experience has been indoor under HID light....and 1-5% amber suits me fine..:stoned:...I am sure outdoor plants reaction is probably a little different?...live and learn...:D

Check that last pic closely. Trichs all cloudy--just a *hint* of amber after prolly 15 weeks under leds. Two hits and stand up quick, and it's "lights out."
I've put a couple steelheads on the floor with that stuff (I was one, drool) :rastasmoke:
Thanks to Dutch, who hipped me to the camera...

Yes, that is a nice camera you've got there. May I ask what is? I love my macro lens but would love to rig a scope to it to enlarge.
So when you say 15wks under a LED...is that 15wk of flower? That's about where mine are and they're still pretty much all clear trichs.
