Hello,
I am new to this forum as a member, but have been searching through here for about a week now and have found some really helpful information. I am a first time grower but have definitely done my research. My situation here seems to be gold-ish coloring on one of the plants and a what looks to be a very sad growing second one which also has gold-ish yellow-ish colors creeping in. Setup is under stairs in a basement lined with foil under a 400w MH lamp. Have a small fan blowing on low to keep the plants cool. I have pretty nice ventilation considering I don't have to keep them cooped up, I can leave the door to the closet that leads to the understairs open. Seeds were planted in miracle grow soil after it was saturated and drained. Did not germinate because I did not find it necessary b/c I did not want to handle the seeds after they'd been germinated. The lights hadn't come in till a few days after they sprouted but they were under a small cpf in the meantime. (reason for lengthiness; not a concern of mine). The A.M.S. strain is the one that looks healthier and the other is a cross between skunk and n. lights. When the lights were first turned on, they were about 18 in. away from the plants and it seemed to cook them considering the leaves started to curl up a little bit. I raised the lights sprayed the surface of the soil with distilled water, and it seemed to correct the problem a little bit. But since then they've seemed to develop this coloring on them, and I cannot figure out what the hell the problem is. Any help would be great. Soil ph is about 6.7. I NEED HELP BAD lol, if I've forgotten to mention anything, someone please ask or if anyone has had this same problem please tell me how it can be corrected. I would hate to see these little babies die in vain.:(

So I figured this might help since I wasn't getting any responses. Please help!!!

What is your experience level? first timer

Your Equipment:
.1) Type and wattage of lights. Lumaflux 400w MH
.2) Distance from tops? about 18 inches
.3) Reflector type? open reflector
.4) Is there a consistent fresh air supply? Yes
.5) Do you have an exhaust fan and a circulation fan? circulation fan
.6) What are the bulb wattages, kelvin ratings, and schedule? 400w MH on a 20/4 light schedule

Your medium:
.7) Specific brand and type of soil, (coco, peat based soilless...) and anything you've added to it. (vermiculite, perlite, worm castings...) Miracle Grow soil, nothing added to it
.8) Size of container. about an 8'' pot
.9) Did you use peat pucks (or similar) to root clones or germinate seedlings? NO

Your nutrients and water:
10) Source of water? Boiled tap water, then cooled to room temp. What's it's ph before adjusting? 7
11) Method of checking water ph. (ph pen, test strips, aquarium test kit...) Test Strips
12) Method of adjusting water ph. (phosphoric acid, white vinegar, hydrated lime, PH Up...) none
13) Specific brand and N-P-K ratio for each bottle. List dosages (quantity per gallon) and current feeding schedule. none now
14) How often are you watering between feedings, and how much per watering?barely watering. Watered at planting, and once since then. Have sprayed soil a few times because of the heat from the lamp.
15) Any additives or tea's? (Superthrive, CalMag, molasses, Mother's Earth...) NO
16) Are your ph levels stable, or do they fluctuate? Stable
17) What is your ingoing water's ph? ...your runoff ph? don't know?
18) Do you foliar feed? If so, with what, how often, and at what time do you spray? I did for two days, wasn't sure if it was ok, but it was a means of cooling down the plants from the heat without watering the whole plant.

Your growroom:
19) Indoors or outdoors? Indoors
20) What size of closet, room or hut? 3 ft wide, 4 ft long and like 4 ft tall. fairly small
21) What are the temps and humidity levels while lights are on? ...With lights off? With lights on its about 80-85 in the room, off about 70
22) Have you seen signs of insects in the growroom? Spiders, but I heard those were the good insects

Your strain:
23) What strain are you growing? (Indica dominate or Sativa dom?) A.M.S. and a skunk x northern lights
24) From seeds or clones? feminized seeds
25) Is this an autoflower strain? no

Your ph is too high at 7 you need to bring down some. The foil can cause hot spots painting the walls white or overing them with mylar would work a lot better. Did you add anything to the soil like perlite? MG can be a little too heavy with out perlite and it also can be a bit hot. Why are you boiling your water?

next time

use smaller pots for seedlings and add 20% perlite for good drainage...(I use 16oz cups or 4 inch pots)...at 3 weeks I transplant to 6/8 inch pots.

T-12 shop lights (6500k) are enough light for the first 3 weeks...MH light can be tricky for seedlings under 3 weeks old.

ph of 7 is not a major problem...IMO..I use MG too and the ph stayed at 7 forever...

Alright thanks for the advice. I boil my water only because it rids the tap of all the chemicals that are in it. I also thought it might be the MG because it has nutrients in it already and I guess the seedlings are provided their nutrients by their first set of leaves. So hopefully I can get some shop lights for some new seedlings. Would turning the foil to dull side out help out with the reflection? Also should I transplant the current seedlings I have now? Thanks again for the help!

Actually, it does not.
You can boil Chloramine all day.

What it does do is kill bacteria and drive out all the air.
The former is un-necessary and the latter is harmful.

If you feel you must boil, be sure to aerate the water well before applying.

Aloha Bcals

Don't worry about the light burned leaf.
It won't get much better but the next set looks good.
Seedlings grow well under MH but burn easily if it's too close.
They look pretty good in spite of the MG soil.:D

Good luck with the grow, bro.
Mind if I pull up a chair?

Thanks man, by all means there's plenty chairs available. Thats nice to know about the water, looks like i'm heading to 711 to get some jugs. Ill post some pictures later this week to give an update. The one with more narrow leaves is drooping a bit now, but i'm gonna leave them alone to see if they just fix themselves with some time. Any more advice is aok with me.

So I was checking out the plants again, and I noticed that the plant that had the more narrow leaves and the more yellow on the tips is only growing 1 out of 2 of the second set of leaves...is this weird? normal? If i need to post a picture please let me know. Thanks.

Im no expert but i can answer most of your questions, one the golden yellow spot are either cuz you have to much nutrients in your water(if your growin hydro) or you might have the light to close and it could be burning them, Also in that same reasoning foil creates hot spots therefor certain spots on your plant will be getting excessive amounts of light, My best advice would be to goto you local wal-mart and get a windsheild reflector for your car and put the shinny side reflecting the light, this is about the most cost efficient way to solve that problem. If you have any more questions i might be able to help with feel free to ask:thumbsup:

Emergency blankets made from mylar work wonders. Make sure.to use tape where your racking because the material will tear very easy. I'm new to, but that's my opinion.:rastasmoke:
