Hi to everyone, first time grower and apologies in advance for the low res cam pics. Spend so much time reading this board figured it wise to post the progress since most of the learning comes from this site alone.

-bag seed was germinated by taking 16 oz dixie cup and filling bottom with dirt outside and placing seed ontop of dirt then running some water over top, had a great size tap root within 24hrs.

-09/10/09-next she was placed in a 16oz dixie cup filled near the rim with a 80% Organic Miracle Grow Potting Soil 20% Perlite mix. (a moistened the soil all throughout before pouring in cup)

-placed her under two 26w(6500k, 1600lumens) CFL's hanging 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches above

-within a shipping box 19inches wide 19inches deep and 43inc high

-no extra nutes, thinking of using Tiger bloom for flowering stage

-Pics below taken on 09/20/09 (i don't see attachment option so i will post pictures once i figure this out..lol)

no, had several different bag seeds from mid-grades, tossed em in cup and and planted 2 of the germinated ones, and ended up just keeping one due to space constraints and the other one had stunted growth shortly after sprouting.

- have pics from 09/10(1week 3days old) and sum from today 3weeks old and will post when i figure out how

-use to water lightly with squirt/spray bottle a few times a day then figured there were better methods so she gets water once a week with 33oz 6.5 ph but now thinking that should be cut in half to about 17oz once a week(( just sticking finger about an inch into soil to make sure its dry before watering...last watering was 09/29)

just dont let it dry out man..i had that trouble at the start of my grow and it really stunted the growth:thumbsup:

def not gonna let her dry out...like she's checked on a few times daily by stickin finger in soil to feel moisture as well as liftin her up to see how heavy she is.

Updated album with pics since im not able to attach directly in this log. The pics show the lil soldier fightin to stay in there as well as the lighting...the light above is 2 26w CFL attached thru y-adapter and theres 1 26w cfl hanging lower and more to the side of the plant. she's rotated every 4 hours in an attempt to let the light hit her all over. There's also a fan that stays on above her blowing directly down and set to the lowest setting

Sorry again for not having pics posted directly in this log...but they are in my album...guess i don't have enough post or whatever to upload pics directly to this log...but im hoping to get some input on how things are looking...enough light?...since the medium is organic miracle grow potting soil/perlite there wont be a need for nutes until flower? and at that time she'll probably be getting FF tiger bloom.

Since i believed she was drowning she got transfered to a bigger pot yesterday, hoping for the best, more pics will be posted in my album tomorrow to see if the results are positive. but just incase she doesn't pull thru...several seeds are being germinated now and a lucky one or two will be planted tomorrow.

yay i have an audience, lol, i can't waite to see how this first grow turns out too...gonna let her vedge for 6 weeks so flowering begins oct 22nd and hopefully she's ready by 12/24...nice christmas present although after drying/curing it'll be 2010.

P.S. - I'm getting 100% germination by grabbin dirt from outside, puttin enuff to fill bottom of 16oz dixie cup...wetting surface, laying seeds ontop, cover with napkin...24-48hrs i get a 1/2inch - 1 inch tap root but today i didn't feel like walkin downstiars to get dirt from yard so i just used the miracle grow potting soil i had ...i'll let everyone know how that turns out

Hello everyone...my germination methods didn't yield the same results with the miracle grow so i grabbed some dirt from outside like i usualy do and placed in some seeds for germ today..should be ready tomorrow.

Posted new pics to my album and you can see the differences from 10/01 to 10/05...she was droopy and i felt it was due to overwatering so she was transfered to a larger pot on 10/02...her lower leaves are yellow and will eventually fall off :( ...she is more perky so im guessing there's still hope for her new growth...?...she hasn't had water since 09/29 but the soil is still a little moist but only after my finger goes about an inch and a half deep

I'm hoping there isn't to much or to little light? plan on watering her on 10/7

Lookin at ur pics, you might want to flower soon. How much more headroom do you have in your box? That plant could grow as much as double or more in height once flowering is triggered. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

You shouldn't even NEED soil at all to germinate. All that is required for germination of cannabis seeds is moisture and relatively warm temperature (above 50F or so). I have done them in paper towels and a ziploc before and had 100%. Now I typically soak for 24 hrs in a test tube (until the outer shell cracks open), then plant directly in soil with no nutes. About 2 days or so, and a tiny little plant pops out.

Going right into the MG soil may be a little stressful since there is an abundance of nutrients and a seedling doesn't need any nutes for the first few weeks (typically).

Do a little research on Foxfarm use on the forums. I believe you must use Big Bloom in conjunction with Tiger Bloom to get good results. Something about BB being the catalyst for the mix. Not sure exactly, but before you make the investment, check it out.

yea, was going to definitely use Fox Farm tiger and big bloom once flowering cycle begins, the area's 5feet high she's 10inches tall from the soil now.

My bad, didn't know you had 5 feet to spare. I thought you had like 3 and a half. Minus lights hanging and pot height.

oh..i just measures theres 4feet of space above her right now minus lighting...and she's 10inches tall from soil.

hello to all, sunday will be 5weeks of flowering for the 1st grow, probably going to add pic updates just before the 7week mark.

Have 3 other grows going on now as well...i realy can't waite to become a little more versed with the hydro methods since it seems more space friendly??

I thought dro is supposed to be seedless??..had about a half oz of hydro from a friend and found 3 seeds...planted one which is in the first two pics still in 16oz. dixie...its under 2 26w cfl...organic miracle grow/perlite mix and no nutes added as of yet. im thinking people sometimes grow nice buds in soil without seeds and sell it as dro ?? i know nothing about the hydro process yet, can you impregnate dro fems if male is around??

the next two pics are bag seeds from some nice mids..each plant under 2 26w cfl and in the organic miracle grow/perlite mix...im thinking i'll add foxfarm veg nutes on monday since the bottom leaves are yellowing...any thoughts?

only thing I can add is you should add a couple 2700k CFLs or replace one of the two 6500k ones and you'll see a difference, the yellower light is good for flowering plants.

moxie421
11-13-2009, 05:13 PM
i was thinking of throwing the plant in the 3rd pic into flower on monday...not much height for her or the last pic to grow so im thinking i'll use the tie down method..so she gets light on the sides to promote wider growth. the plant in the first two pics has about 4ft of height to grow so not to worried about her.

thanks for the input..i replaced one of the 6500k cfl's with a 2700k...i'll try to put that 6500k back into the mix when i make my way to the store...tomorrow will be 5 weeks of flowering hope she's ready to harvest intime for new years or better yet for Christmas:)

Can't waite...

Whats up everyone...just throwing some updated pics up...couldn't waite any longer..11/22 will make 6weeks of flowering for jennifer...gave her the name since her seeds came from a bag of mids so i dunno what particular stran she comes from.

The plants always start in an organic miracle grow and perlite mix and the bottom leaves always yellow..brown...then fall off...maybe nute burn? because as she matures the she stays green im guessing since she is big enough to handle the nutes at that point. I don't feed them extra nutes untill flowering (FF Tiger Bloom)

i'll show off my other ladies a little later...they are in veg and one had a light fall on her..lol...gotta laugh becuase i've read similar stories but never thought it could happen to me

thanks...anyone know if i can cut off some of the large fan leaves...especially towards the bottom...the flowering buds aren't getting much light...because i only have light hanging above...not realy able to have it coming from the side for this plant...if so is there anything special to take into consideration...or just snip?

In my opinion the fan leaves feed the plant so leave them alone..In Jorge Cervantes' Medical Grow Bible he says to leave fan leaves alone. The fan leaves provide the plant with energy to grow more bud, so I think if you trim the fan leaves it would stress the plant a bit and probably wouldn't increase yield. However if you are certain you wish to trim leaves do the minimum that is possible and perhaps only trim part of each leaf. I hope this was some help to you good luck with your grow :)

11-23-2009, 02:47 AM
No way, do not trim. In that third picture, you barely have any fan leaves on that cola. Think of fan leaves like solar panels. Your plant needs them to collect light. If buds are being covered, you can reposition the leaves. Or you can always turn the pot at an angle to get a larger canopy for the light.

Besides, you're close to harvest anyways; trimming fan leaves now, you wouldn't see any difference in yield, at least not enough to outweigh the stress you'd be doing to her. I'd flush her in 7-10 days, then just keep an eye on the trichs until they are at your liking

Im pretty damn stoned and I was thinking of turning your plant on its side, or just on an angle, so that it doesnt have 1 cola closer to the light than the others. kinda like growing vertically, but just with a regular pot and just tilt that mofo. :stoned:

Radioshack. The closest store was really small, but they had it when I went it. Tell them you're looking for the handheld microscope.

I'll see if I can find a link for ya.

Edit: Here ya go! Illuminated Microscope - RadioShack.com (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2179604) Online it says $12, but mine was priced at $8. I own this exact one, and it's awesome. You can also use it with a digital camera to take close-ups if your camera doesn't have a macro setting.
