Good afternoon,

I am highly considering opening a dispensary in Aurora, Co. I have been doing a lot of reading on permits, costs, obstacles, etc, and just wanted to seek any advice from current operators. Also, I do not want to grow my own if I do not have to, what's the alternative?

Forgive me if my knowledge is lacking, and I know I can search all day and find bits and pieces, but I thought a thread centralizing the info would be nice.

Oh, also, because I don't have successful experience in this, I am also open to the idea of a business partner, particularly if you are currently running a successful dispensary in Colorado and are interested in providing guidance, and potentially some investment in the start up.

Lets chat! Thanks in advance!!

Sorry, I'm of no help. I'd love to open a dispensary, but I have no money or experience running a business. I would love to help someone else start up their own business though, for a fair wage! PM if you're interested!

From what I have read, Aurora has banned any dispensaries from opening..

All you can do in Aurora is personal growth for you and maybe your spouse. Aurora police are actively in pursuit of growers. Do not be fooled into thinking you are even safe growing 1 plant in Aurora.

Aurora will not ratify the state law. Aurora will not sanction ANY business that violates Federal law and our state law does just that.

There are no caregivers in Aurora. You cannot assign anybody in Aurora as your caregiver. You may not BE a caregiver for ANYBODY if you live in the city of Aurora and keep your garden in that city.

Aurora will not sanction any profit-making business that has anything to do with MMJ. You may not give it away. You may not sell your "labor" or "services" and include MMJ in that package.

You may not have a co-op or community garden in Aurora.

Aurora has a no tolerance policy - period.

Aurora is the LEAST friendly city on the front range as far as I know.

:S4: Up yours Aurora!! Glad I don't live there!! :S4:

:S4: I heard a rumor Broomfield is about the 2nd worse. Up theirs too! :S4:

Golden is one of the most friendly - with Boulder leading the pack.

I second almost everything that was said in the above post. Broomfield wont have dispensaries. But the sheriff there has said he will not prosecute growers if they are within the law. Bets advice is to get a attorney and pay him $150 for the consultation. Bring all your questions in a get answers. It will be the best $150 youll spend. Plus youll start to develop a relationship with the attorney which IMHO is the 1st thing you do when opening a dispensary.

Because anyone with a brain knows that this industry is going to boom and starting a dispensary can bring wealth to those who won't attain it with their current professions. I hate to question individual motives because people start dispensaries for different reasons. Either way, other markets have vanished and people are always searching for the easy path to financial success. Its a very luring industry right now.

All of us here are passionate about marijuana and we don't care to see outsiders exploiting the industry to get rich...but as long as people pick professions that will help them to achieve the American dream, you'll see more of this.

Those opening dispensaries might not yet understand that if they don't grow their own (which allows them to keep prices lower) they're not going to be as profitable.

Hell, I should go back to school for botany. I'm tired of working jobs I hate that make no difference in the world and help no one. Tired of being broke! Who's with me?

you should look into his background before you start cheerleading for him. i would not follow his advice.

he is also a defense attorney and gets paid a lot more if you are in trouble.

Why don't you enlighten us calphi! I don't know about his background, but he is helping the fight for medical marijuana as much as anyone in the state as far as I can tell.

And being a defense attorney and helping people who are getting in trouble for growing and possessing a simple herb is nothing to slam the guy for. A person has to make a living, so I will reserve judgement until you present real facts. I highly doubt he is going to all this trouble just to screw us in the end, and he is setting himself up for lots of trouble campaigning for this cause, so I tend to think he is on our side.

Your telling me. Im sitting here unemployed making no money, and my unemployment ran out 3-4 months ago. Im not asking for no sorrow here im stating that im a go getter and ive been out looking agressively for jobs.(no record, graduated) Then when you find one they want to pay me $8-10 an hour. LOL You can't live on your own and make this kind of money, you can but it very hard. I was working at a harbor freight making $8.hr moving heavy ass boxes, and my knee seriously could'nt handle it so i quit like a idiot. My point it i made 1200.00 a month working 40hr's a week. Im sorry but growing medical marijuana is my calling. When i get to colorado im going to be a caregiver/disp. who has free clones of 15-20 strains and from seed mothers. and all bud $10 a gram or 2 for $15. Grown in Roots organic 707 mix with organic nutes. And im going to pay my employee $15-20/hr. 40 hr weeks with Health ins, including dental vision. I am not trying to get rich here, just enjoy what i do everyday and not be broke. Average house, average car and a disp. That's all i want and i would be living my dream.

hey Cannamanibus, good luck with your endeavors! I wish I was in a position to grow but I live in an apartment. I was making $4,500 a month in the oil field before the economy tanked, and I can't find work anything that pays over $10 an hour. tough times.

Maybe I can eventually land a job in the medical marijuana industry. That would be nice.

I talked to corry about opening up something. I decided to go elsewhere when I did some digging and talking to people. Just google his name:

Ive used Warren Edson with good success. He might be hard to get a hold of cause alot of dispensaries use him. But call and leave a message.
