this is the simplest, cheapest way to go, I think ... a Bic lighter for light, a thimbleful of soil, and a lively butterfly to provide ventilation :D ... can't remember who made this picture up, but I've been wanting to use it, for ages :D

there is a welth of information on this website, however to avoid being the ass of a pretty damn funny poke (IR) you should know be careful what you post here because there is such thing as a dumb question. no offense just letting you know. if you cant find the answer to a more project specific question after you research let me know i will point you in the right direction.
