Well, if anyone read my outdoor grow forum thread you know that I had my crop and very important (to me) seed project stolen yesterday. So, I brought my seven Neville's Haze (MR. Nice Seeds) indoors and started some Z11 and G13 x NCDG seeds. The Z11's mom was a sister to the Z10's that I was breeding with Bubblegum.

The NH are doing well, as they are a month old and are cropped back to the 3-4 node. I have them under 400W MH Sunmaster 10K lamp. The really should be into 12-12 now but I want to wait until the other seeds pop. The NH is very tollerable of a short/no veg period, I just hope the other strains don't mind. I'm just throwing them in to take up space if and when the NH show sex and I pitch out the males.

I'm growing in soil that I put together a few months ago. I'll mix this soil 33%with 33% Perlite and 33% peat moss-vermiculite-lime.

yep, sucks. no more herbs for friends or family. I have to look like I don't grow or have any stash. Shit, after 4-5 outdoor rips and two B&Es in the house I have to think that others are at the bottom of my security leaks. Boy, the faces dropped when I tell them that the OL doesn't want anymore weed activity that has attracted these theives, so no more grows.

Very pleased to see how the NH have adapted to the better indoor climate and all the NCDG and a few (enough) of the Z11 have sprouted already. That's a very good sign. :hippy:

Seven weeks for the (7) NH and almost three weeks for the (4) NCDG and the (4) Z11.

I cropped the NHs again, they are pretty much identical, so far. They have thin, sativa leaves and are growning nicely.
The other, younger seedlings are very short and indica looking.

They were outdoors and when bugs started getting to them I put them in a shed window. They are loving it under 400W Sunmaster MH. I cropped them at nodes 3 or 4 and I just FIMed the two main top this week.

Thanks Sarah Louise. I remember you mentioning that. :(

The temp has been 85-90ºF so I made a change, to use a 4' x 4 lamp T5HO with grow spectrum lamps. I have other cooling options but my schedule is to flip 11/24 and I have limited room so this light should sustain good growth for less energy.

The NH are at 8 weeks veg and the others at 4 weeks. I put the NH in 3.5 gal and the Z11 and G13 x NCDG into 1.5 - 2 gallon pails. It is now a solid 2' x 4'+ footprint. I'll probably go back to MH 400W until I decided to flip them. I soaked them in really good and I'll give them a good feeding next watering. I have to clean up quite a mess of soil and additives when it dries up a little. I'll post some pics in a few days.

bravo shov. How much water are you giving the nevilles haze each watering? 40 oz, 1/2 g??

Shovelhandle
10-19-2009, 10:28 AM
how much water? Well they just got transplanted into larger vessels so I'll have to see how the uptake is. Once the roots get to filling in (in two weeks) I'd guess that each 3.5 gallon pail could use a quart ever other day increasing to 2 quarts as they mature. I like to see the pail pretty much use all the water in 2-3 days. Right now the pails are all saturated, with a small root ball and it could take 4-5 days to dry out. I'll add nutes at that time, first wetting down the soil with plain water then the nute solution. I got to get to the grow store, run out of some nutes and suppliments.

Thanls for the reply, Bub.

I've spent a good few minutes mystified by what this sentence meant. I was about to ask when it dawned on me... we don't write the date like that so I was thinking that figure was your planned light cycle and that, obviously, didn't make any sense.

But I've got it sorted now so no worries

Shovelhandle
10-19-2009, 08:32 PM
OH, it's me causing the confusion, as usual. ;)

I don't know really when I'll flip 'em. I was going to wait until I came back from the trip (and the plants have been in the dark for five days). Or I may just flip them earlier. It isn't the ideal situation, with a long flowering sativa that's into it's ninth week and some hybrids (one very indica dominant) that are into the fifth week and not quite mature yet.

I'm a bit confused at the best of times Shov, but I usually get there in the end.

Plants all look nice and healthy and your nh look mighty bushy. I gave up on sativa doms at home in the name of efficient production. Still miss them but I can't produce enough to meet my needs so it's skunks, affies and ruderalis indica.

All the best for flowering,

sara.

As the plants grow and take up a bigger footprint I decided to go back to the 400W MH. The ambient temp is around 72-74º so the canopy temp can be kept under 84º with one fan. When I change to blossom time I'll have to use the T-5s for side lighting, at least until some males thin out the plot. Today I also gave them nutes and a foliar feed.

NH nine weeks old, G13 x NCDG and Z11 five weeks.

The five week old plants, I just;
Trimmed bottom two branches and leaves
FIMed the tops
Replanted into 3 gallon bags
Watered in with nute solution

All the plants;
Added 4' x 4 lamp T5 flowering spectrum, still using MH at 18/6 hours.

Z11, before trim and FIM

I just trimmed the tops of all those tall branches on each NH. These are all from the two lower main branches. The two upper branches had been FIMed and tied down. That's all each of the Haze plants have, two lower branches oposite each other and then the split branches from the cropping.
As soon as the plants recover from this (a few days to a week) I will be changing to HPS and 10 hours of light a day.

The G13 x NCDG males are from seed that I think were a 'work in progress'. So now I just have the sigle female pheno. Now, the NH might be a nice strain to have a 100 F2 seeds. But I don't plan on doing that either. I would have liked to kept the Z 11 strain going but they were feminized so I didn't wnat to work with that. My next seed crop will probably be Bubblegum and Stinky's Afghani Dream x BOG Medley. Also, I'd like to grow out the SSH x Blueberry seeds I have and see if there's a keeper in there someplace.

grow bags were .50 each.

If the NCDG hybrid survives it will be the only plant from almost 30 seeds that I started. Other plants had taken off and germinated and thrived right next to the empty pots and diseased seedlings of my ncdg attempts. Maybe they don't like the atmosphere here in New England. ;)

The Neville's Haze is a month older than the others ;and I'm still waiting for them to show sex. They have only been under 10/14 for a week though.

I'm thinking of germinating the NH seeds when I get back and I'll veg them for a week of two before putting them into flower (12-12) with the others. These four Z11 and the one G13 x NCDG were "Plan B" to fill in th espace in the event that I had too many males of the Neville's Haze. Well now "Plan B" is the game. All I want to do is to get through this grow and have some good smoke. I also figured that since I could have NH pollen that I'd make a few seeds of the Z11 X NH and G13/NCDG x NH since I have no more Z11 or G13/ncdg seeds. I may leave the plants in the bag, or after my trip I may put the bags into 5 gallon pails. I have the soil and everything right therer to do that...

The Mister Nice Seeds Neville's Haze male had a couple of open flowers so I shook it over the five ladies and tossed it into the compost pile. It will be quite a while before the seeds ripen and I will be able to grow out the two hybrids (Z11 x NH and G13/NCDG x NH) and test the smoke. Unfortunetly, I have yet to smoke MNS NH.

Well, I had to go away for five days and have a house sitter to care for our pets. Only the wife and I know about the grow, so I have no one to care for the plants. So I watered them and left them hidden in the dark. When we returned home I put the lights and fan on immediately. The next day I transplanted the plants, each in 3 gallon bags into 5 gallon pails, BOG style, fed and watered them in. They are now in their fourth week of bloom and are looking fine. I'll get some photos later.

yep.
BOG used to cut his pails, duct tape the bottom back on and remove the bottom when transplanting on top of a larger pail. I've tried it once and it worked well. In this case I have four or more weeks until I harvest so it should be woth while.

I don't know about a 'tier method' BOG worked with Bubblegum strain and created some of his own very nice hybrids.

Cutting the bottom of the bag off, i place it into the partially filled 5 gallon pail. Then I use a sissors to triim off the bottom few inches of the bag and fill around it with potting soil. I water both from the top and from the sides to keep the soil equally moist.

Thanks for the messages, Deleaf, Sarah and Frosted.

These next two Z11 plants' buds are loaded with little yellow male stamens. This is un-good, but it explains to me how I've missed these little things in past grows (and the resulting seeds). As this crop is for smoke and not for breeding, I'll leave them alone. I will only grow out seed from the sativa or the G13 and even then I'll be looking for the sativa traits (as I did pollenate with Neville's Haze, remember?) I can only hope... One bit of encouragement, a friend of mine, a long time outdoor cultivator, told me that the most potent weed he ever grew was from a hermie plant. ;)

No, I think that the strain has a propensity to hermie. Also, the seeds came from a grow without a real male, so that is probably the reason. I will not grow out seed from any of these indica Z11 and I will cull any indica doms from any of the G13 or the Z11 sativa's seedlings, if I decide to grow them out. This all depends if the herbs are super outstanding or not.

NO, the dark period wasn't it. It's the strain.

and thanks bombD. I seen these stamen in this strain when I really looked for them under the female calyxes, after drying. Usually you just have the odd little dried up yellow stamen (banana) in the buds. Not always like fully developed male balls that open up with 5 stamen full of pollen, like a real male.

I was joking bout smoking the nanners too!! :stoned: What are you opinions about that strain hermying on a consistent basis? That's a bonus then. I must admit to keeping a strain going for 12 years that had a strong propensity for intersexual characteristics... I'd brought the seed home in the toe of my boot from Nepal in the early 90's, so I was a bit sentimental about them. Gone now, lost when my seed stash was nicked.

Buds are dried, trimmed and weighted. (3) Z11 indica produced 4 oz of nice niggets. They were harder to trim with lots of fan leaves. The (1) G13 x NCDG produced just shy of 2 oz of nuggets. really no fan leaves or sugar leaf tips to trim. I didn't get any yellowing of the lower leaves in these plants. They are curing in open jars in a metal chest for now. No need to label, the Z11 has lots of brown/red hair and the G13 is more lime green and sparkley. Everything is smelling pretty green yet though. The Z11 sativa is looking like it may not be too much longer. It is showing lotls of lwer yellow leaves. Then the new seedlings will be transplanted into the 400 watt grow area.

This plant was in the dark for three days before I pulled it and hung it to dry this morning.

Easy? well it won't be the easiest but it's only one plant. I will trim the leaves tomorrow and leave the rest to dry for 3-5 days before it's dry enough to jar up with the rest (that were harvested two weeks earlier). It's not as bad as the photo seems. The buds are nice and heavy.

A report so far on the sativa I pulled on Friday and trimmed yesterday.

It is loaded with seed, mostly nice and ripe. Typical to a sativa, plus the extra two bloom weeks the seeds fall right out when you handle the branches. So, I sift out a bunch of seeds before I hang the branches. I dry the shake overnight on the computer modem and twist up three small joints this am. I smoke the smallest. I'm wicked stoned. This will likely be really good shit, and the seed father is Neville's Haze from Mister Nice Seeds.

Good one!

The branches of Z11 sativa snapped today. The bud was crispy, bad. So I put all the branches into a 3 quart mason jar with a carrot to moiture back a little.

Ummm, you know that I intentionally pollenated these plants, right? <g>

But seriously, this is hopefully a work in progress. I have to grow the seeds out to see if the cross makes good orfsprinks. Yet, I'd be happy to part with a few seeds here or there. See what someone else can do with 'em.

Final smoke report.

Well, the G13 x NCDG is all smoked up, but it was really fine including white outs. Very strong.

Z11 with the dry hermie stamen, a little strange loooking but again, very fine bud. Good strength and not much tollerance at all.

Z11, the sativa. This is my favorite because it has everything the Z11 is but has seed fathered from Mr Nice Seeds' Neville's Haze. Lots of seeds... speaking of which, I did pollenate a limited amount of the Z11s. Probably 10-12 of each kind. Again, crossed with NH.

The flavors are not very distinct as I think a lot of that has to do with the grow nutrients. However, they are very mild on the inhale and smell/taste nice on the exhale (joints).

Just a bump up in time to coincide with my present 11/2013 grow of Z-11 sativa x Neville's Haze. I looked in my list and I still have three seeds from the (G13 x North Cali Daddy's Girl) x Neville's Haze to grow one of these days!
This thread illistrates how my first order of Mr Nce NH seeds was a bust (all males). In time I find that the male did produce some great orfsprinks.

Flushing this plant out this week. Looks real nice.
