How long does it take to "burn-in" a Hortilux 1000w MH? I haven't seen anything about this before and now my plants are left in the dark...literally

What do you mean by burn in? Did you get a new light and hook it up and the light won't come on? I'm a little confused here.
I have never had my HID's take time to burn in or anything, I put em in the socket and turn em on and voila, light.

It isn't working...back to the hydro store. I read online that MH sometimes have burn-in periods. Thanks

Okay so my ballast is working fine with a hps but it won't start a mh....is there some easy way to fix this? Everytime it tries to start up it seems like it just can't quite get it all the way burning and it shorts out...so frustrating since I have little clones in there ready to get the light....NOW

have you used this bulb before in your ballast? what kind of ballast do you have?

I took the bulb back and they checked it...worked fine there of course. They are saying it must be the ballast. It works fine with the hps bulb but it can't seem to stay going with the MH. It seems like it keeps resetting itself too cause it keeps trying to restart every like 30 seconds.
Any thoughts? Open the ballast up and check it out?

If the ballast is new it should be warrantied. Sounds strange that it ignites the hps, I'm not too familiar with digital ballasts, but I know the "old school" type have replaceable components in them. Capacitors and such. Where's all the digital ballast experts??

Found the info sheet, warranty info is on page 2. Looks like a 3 year replacement guarantee from Lumatek.

are you referring to the warm-up time? if so ~5 minutes or so.
did they check the bulb on a lumatek ballast?
what brand bulb was it? there is known issues with some hortilux bulbs, specifically the Hortilux blue MH and the 1000W lumatek ballasts.

Sorry about the repost guys...won't happen again. They tested it on a brand new ballast, however it wasn't a lumatek (not sure of the brand tho). I tested both a Hortilux 1000W mh and a Hortilux 1000w mh blue, neither would start up all the way. Looks like I must be having some of those "issues" that you speak of with luimatek...any remedies?

Some Lumatek owners report better results if you have one that can run/switch to 240 volt...instead of 120 volt.
Ushio bulbs seem to work better too, with Lumateks

:yeahright:
Hortilux bulbs don't like Lumatek, or any other for that matter, electronic or digital ballasts.
Or is it Lumatek, or any other electronic/digital ballasts don't like Hortilux bulbs?

k...any remedies?
try a new bulb. the one DP recommends is good. i think it's a conversion bulb, but it has virtually the same spectral output, puts out more lumens than the HB and should be much cheaper. sounds like a win win!
