View Full Version : I decided to trap a raccoon last night....

I was high off my ass with some new shit.

We have raccoons that get into our garbage every single night. I've tried several different things to deter them from getting into it, but they are smart sonsofbitches.

I decided to set up a trap last night. The garbage is right below my upstairs office window. I took and old sheet and put it on the ground outside, tied rope to the 4 corners, ran the rope up through the window and waited. I put a brand new bag of garbage out for them.

Around 10pm, I heard something outside. I peeked out and saw FOUR raccoons, very excited about the garbage that was "left out." I untied the rope that was hanging inside the window, and in one quick motion, yanked the rope so the sheet came up around the raccoons and trapped them in midair, in the sheet.

I got one. I didn't think I had caught any, because the sheet wasn't moving, so I lowered it back to the ground, and a raccoon jumped out. I set it up again, but they didn't come back. Maybe they will tonight 8-)

I'm a very humane person. I wouldn't do anything to hurt them, I just want to scare the shit out them so they don't come back. Thanks for reading :rasta::rasta:

Oh, I have a few videos too. Never been that close to one before. They are smart fuckers....but very greedy. I'm sure they knew it was a trap, but couldn't help themselves.

Can you upload videos to this site? Or do you have to post them on youtube or something and link to it?

Well if someone set up an ACME Co.-like contraption to catch you whenever you had the munchies you'd be super duper pissed too haha.

you better watch yer ass ! ... nothing much meaner than a raccoon, they can tear up a pack of dogs ... also, number #1 critter, for carrying rabies (not bats) ... believe this hillbilly boy :D

Yah, I know they are mean. My dad called me a few weeks ago with a story about catching a family of raccoons that had nested in the attic above their garage. He said he was pretty nervous handling them, even though they were caged. He transported them about 20 miles to a creek bed. He said they were growling, snarling, and trying to escape the whole drive.

Rebelgirl, you are absolutely right. I purposely didn't indulge my munchies so I could ride the high out (I only get to smoke once every couple weeks, life is getting busy again). I had a blast last night 8-)

Edit: except that I'm high again right now...got my work done early today.

Yeah I've got them on my property. My 180 lb lab toke one on last year and got his face tore up. One killed a neighbors small dog 2 weeks ago. If I see them out during the day I just shoot them. Getting to be too many of them.

I have a .22 that I am good with. Is it legal to shoot them? :)

I also have an airsoft pistol that has roughly 10% accuracy.

doubtful it is legal, except with a hunting license, and in season ... check with your Fish & Game headquarters, every state's laws differ ... if a nuisance, sometimes Fish & Game, will come out, and place traps for you, and haul them away ... (I think, then, they dump them in Killerweed420's yard :D)

its not hard to create the humane traps that can trap the raccoons without letting them escape.

locking trash lids? thats the most practical answer, or a place to keep them inside until trash day.

and what do you call a raccoon without rings?

I was kidding about shooting it. I've never killed anything in my life. I cried when my goldfish died.

Those bastards came back last night. I thought they were gone. Guess I'm gonna set it up again. Maybe I'll pour a glass of water on the ones I catch before letting them go. Anyone know what would permanently deter them?

it may sound wrong, but when you trap them, get a stick.

and not hard, but very sternly give each one a little whack. not enough to break or bruise anything, but more so to associate your trash with pain. kind of like how you can train a dog with a stern smack. same principle, though a little harsher for the outdoor vermin.

Go to tractor supply or homedepot and get a live animal trap- best bait for a coon is to take a small piece of chicken and put into a microwave for a few seconds, this will juice it up - then i take the chicken a put on a safety pin and suspend it above trap release- inside the trap - I also hang a silver spoon with the chicken- the shinny makes the coons curious- I have trapped a lot of coons this way - 6 this year alone- earlier this year coons got into my chicken coupe a killed all my laying hens over a weeks time- coons are very smart and I tried a lot of baits before I came up with one they can not resist- also when you release them make sure to take a long ways off - they will return if let go only a few miles away

every stoner has a raccoon story

:D true. i've got hundreds of them. :stoned: i love coons, tho, they are the coolest little furry beasts. they will come right up to us if we are out camping and just look at us like they're thinking, hey! just what the fuck are y'all doing in our woods talking and smoking weed all night?? there is decent coon families out here trying to sleep and hunt :D say . . . is that a hot dog??

you can actually buy coyote urine off the internets to keep them away or yeah, like the above poster said buy a live animal trap at a feed store and haul 'em off, just be careful they can bite and, as was said, can carry rabies.

Get some stuff called Critter-Ridder and sprinkle it on the food garbage. It has hot peppers in it. It won't harm them but once they get a taste of it, they won't come back so fast.

Well, besides killing or hurting them, which he doesn't want to do, what else is there other than using a repellant such as the one I mentioned, or making the garbage impossible for them to access?

Oh, I get you now. :)

Earlier this summer I had squirrels try to chew through my air-conditioner's plastic side panels, so I fortified them with sheet metal and moved the A/C to another window. Yesterday, the squirrels were back on that same ledge, and I squirted them with LYSOL through the screen - they took off. I also had some Critter Ridder on the ledge, but it was old. MY next project is to put sheet metal on the ledge, at a 45 degree angle, greased with petroleum jelly - theoretically, when they jump from the tree branch onto the metal, they'll slide right off, four stories down. If that isn't enough for them, I also bought Bird-X Spikes - which are as sharp as needles. Goddamn little bastards think they're smarter than us.

In the video below, as long as that cat had his/her shots, I'd open the window. Cats are patient creatures. That squirrel was asking for it.

I never liked coons. They're just pests where I live.

We always would just trap them, drive them out into the country, and release them. Or at least that's what people say they do but I bet a fair number of unmarked raccoon graves are in people's back yards...

Loved the story, sounds like something I would do.

:D alright I admit it I've eaten 'coon, too. just one time, the first one I ever shot when I was a kid, it seemed like the right thing to do. :stoned: i can't remember how it tasted but i bet it was pretty tuff.

we used hunt and trap them when I was kid. I had a bluetick and a black and tan hound and my best friend down the road had 'coon dogs, too. you could get a pretty good price for the fur back then, or it least what seemed like a lot of money to a kid.
