Man slaps stranger??s crying kid
By KATIE LESLIE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Gwinnett County man is in custody accused of slapping a stranger??s crying toddler in a Stone Mountain Wal-Mart on Monday.
Sonya Mathews, the mother of the 2-year-old child, told police that both were walking in the aisles of the Rockbridge Road store when Roger Stephens, 61, approached and said ??if you don??t shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you,? according to a police report.
A few moments later, in another aisle, Stephens grabbed the 2-year-old and slapped her across the face four or five times, according to the report.
Stephens then told Mathews, ??See, I told you I would shut her up,? according to the report.
A bystander held Stephens until store security came to assist, according to a WSB-TV report.
When police arrived, Stephens said that he slapped the child and that he apologized to Mathews, according to the report.
Stephens was charged with felony cruelty to children. He had his first court appearance Tuesday and is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond, according to the Gwinnett Police Department spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli.
The 2-year-old victim sustained slight redness to the face, according to the report. There was no video footage in the area the incident took place, according to the report.

I guess Wal-Mart attracts all types. Doesn't seem like the kid was doing anything but crying though. If the kid was misbehaving, it wouldn't have been so bad. Even so, I'd never slap a child in the face.

Yeah, if that was my kid and some grumpy old man slapped my kid in the face I'd be super pissed.

Oh, the big news would of been.
Man kills old bastered in wall mart after old bastered slaps 3 year old child.
Where was the mother and why did she not stop it after the first slap ?
I have seen bitches in walmart with screaming kids that would just love to fuck someone up that was leagle age.
A swift kick to the nuts would of stopped him.
Too many questions to be answered here. Seems like a setup.
Bet walmart is the one sued here and not the old bastered.
Taking bets now.

let's all admit that every one of us has had that nearly uncontrollable urge to strangle some out of control brat whose mother seemed either unable or unwilling to discipline her child. it's kind of surprising that more people don't just snap and go on killing sprees in local nursery schools and day-care centers. we may know it's totally irrational to blame toddlers for their parents' lack of responsibility and respect for those around them, but sometimes violence seems to be the only way to curb these self-centered breeders and to be almost justified. of course most of us will never act on such atrocious urges, but we can daydream - can't we.

old bastard was off his meds probably but it is one of the most annoying thing in the world when a kid is screaming at the top of his lungs and his mother is not willing to do shit in a public place, especially an airport

Or on the plane.:)
I usually carry an un-opened bottle of water for just such occasions.
Kids cry for a lot of reasons. And a lot of those reasons don't set them off unless they are dehydrated.
Think about it.They are small, they dry out fast.
It's the most common cause of tantrums.
I smiled, introduced myself, asked what she had already tried.
" Everything!" said she, "I'm at my witt's end. She's usually so happy, I don't know what's wrong."
I listed the early symptoms of dehydration and offered water.
She actually had some in her carry-on, but was too frazzled to think straight.
What with all the "stink-eye" she was gettin'.
So, we three had a "drink" and a chat.:)
Toddler went all smilie in about 15 minutes, so did the rest of the plane.
Li'l sweetie laughed and gurgled for the rest of the flight.
And I made a friend for life.
A friendly smile and a reasonable approach saved a whole planeload of folks from wasting chunks of their lifes with angry thoughts and dirty looks.
Took a lot less energy than woofin' and slappin'. (I'm bone lazy)
'course you could just get told to piss-off, but, nothing ventured...
I can't see where slapping a child is gonna cheer it up much.
Sound's like that crabby old bastard was about a quart low, too.
Now he's a felon. :(
AloHa Alo -to give. Ha - the breath of life.
