tested some fresh tap water straight out of the faucet, ppm = 55. tried testing some tap water that has been sitting in a plastic bin for about 3 days, ppm = 75. does this make sense? shouldn't the ppm be going DOWN as chlorine and other chemicals evaporate from the water? also, considering it's city water, shouldn't the ppm be higher? read a lot of threads with people saying their water was a few hundred ppm straight out of the tap.

will calmag plus be needed??

thanks!

well first off when you let tap water sit out its only to evap chemicals that are not wanted in your plants. as far as your ppm it will change when you add your nutrients after you add your nutes then you will want to adjust the ppm, and the ph balance otherwise your just gonna screw yourself and your plants:pimp:

Very strange that it goes up sitting out. it could of gone up because the water evaprated faster than the chemicals.

That is very low at 55 ppm's. You should add calmag plus to about 250 ppm's.

what are you testing the ppm's with ?

have a "primo" by hanna meter.

That's a good one. is it calibrated ? not that it would change anything.

I stand by what I said.

Yes. You should add Cal-Mag

I to have noticed that when you let tap water out the ppm climbs. also which is better cal-meg or magic-cal. I use ro water it comes out at 0 ppm and I use magic-cal but the plants act like they don't get enough I use the least amount that it says on the bottle should I go full strength sense my watter is at 0 ppm

If it is like cal mag plus or cal max. Then I would go to 250 ppm's. If you don't have a meter don't raise it all at once. Do it in 2 or 3 step, no sense in using too much.

thats insane. need to floss after taking a drink at that rate!

i live in an urban area in socal and its about 350 ppm (love my hanna combo meter).

i R/O it and it comes out to about 25 PPm and thats what i work with. i cant stress the overall importance of having the LEAST AMOUNT of crap floating around your water. means you can add more nutes/additives and that you dont have many toxins in the water.

FWIW I have been using tapwater with 170ppm @68 in both my coco and DWC grows with great results. I don't even bother trying to de-clorinate it anymore either... just straight from the tap, nutrients, then a few drops of PH down to get to 5.8.

Happy, happy plants!

Good luck with your grow, bluntman,

it goes up because only the water is being evaporated. the chemicals are not. chemicals stay the same, less water

2 the guy with the 150 ppm,its perfect.less calmag less money spent.heres the dealllllll, ive worked many trades, now i currently work with hazerdous waste water treatment and de contamination.if your water is sitting inside and your ppm ration is elevated it is because your water is evap faster than the chem's,this has been stated several times.there are only several thing that break down metals, chemicals, and v.o.c's this is natural sunshine.the sun light will break down molecular structures of almost anything that it comes in contact with,u can put motor oil in the sun and if left long enough 90% of the liquid that makes it mushy will evap and leave behind a cookie doh like substance.just having a bucket or a 40 gal trash can full of water in a grow room isnt going to cut it.usually one of the only chem's that will be released before vital minerals and metals break down needed to grow plants is chlorine and organic vapor. both of these things will harm plants, but leaving your water out to long will only cause problems....
