Well, she has been budding for about 2 months, and come October 1st she is going to be chopped. I am very pleased with the progress she has made, as well as the progress I have made on my box. Check it out.

that's not technically bonsai, but it's still cool. nice looking lady!
you might want to keep an eye on those trichs....it might not go another month+.

Huh? I am confused to what you mean. DO you mean don't wait that long? I don't have a microscope so I can't really keep track of the cloudiness, but I guess I should invest in one. I have no idea what strain it is so I don't know when it should be done, and what it will look like when done. Any advice is welcome, thanks for stoppin' by.

there is no set finishing time for flowering. the times posted at seed boutiques is more of a timeline.
invest in a microscope. you can get one at radioshack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2179604) for about $13.
the trichs will go from clear, to milky, to amber. when to harvest is a personal preference. the more milky the trichs the more cerebral or uppity the high. the more amber the more couchlock stoned. this is all according to what genetics allow of course. a popular opinion is around 10-25% amber is a good time to chop.
don't wait too long as the THC will start to degrade if you let it go too long.
good growing!

Amazing response. Every question that arose while reading was answered, lol. I shall go retrieve this said $13 microscope and then gander and report. Good day to you.

Got my scope, its not as clear of a picture as I would like, but I guess for $13 what can you expect. The trics are starting to cloud, only some of them though. Hopefully not too much longer.

play with it a little bit. it's not bad. i cut off a piece of leaf from the bud, something with adequate trichs. i put it on a piece of white paper and check it out that way.
you can try a jeweler's loop as well.

I did the same, I actually found a nice flower that was easily removed without harming the bud, and looked at it on a paper plate. Its crazy looking. My buddy has a jewelers loop, its not that strong, but it is nifty. I have about 10% starting to cloud. So maybe that month goal isn't that far off. I'm going to look at it probably about every day.

My 1st harvest..........EVER.......
I only cut off one nug because I want to see what the different stages of this particular nug is like. As of this nug, it is about 90% cloudy tricomes on the nugs and about 50% amber on the pistols. We shall see how it smokes in about 2 weeks or so.....or I might get anxious and just smoke it in a couple days...

I used to, but it was China status and tasted like glue. I can probably just hit it outta my bong, it'll taste a bit weird, but same effect.

Hi Guys
I saw you were talking about the microscope at radioshack. they no longer carry the 30x microscope. but only now they carry a 60x-100x microscope and from what i can see even the 60x is too much magnification and forget about the 100x. but I was able to find quite a few on ebay and amazon.com.

i use the 60-100X with no problems.

Well I got bored so I took some tricome pictures. They aren't the best, but I think they are pretty neat.
These are at 100x magnification.

Congrats. Good job.
The color of the pistils are inconsequential to judging maturity. They age quickly, are easily broken or burned, or crushed by curious fingers, and they die-off. Definatelly not an indicator of plant maturity.
I quick-dry most of my buds now-a-days. 150 degrees f. for about 2 hours, (depending on how much bud is on the cookie sheet, and how large they are) checking every 20 minutes or so for slight crisping. I also make sure not to let the temps go above 170 degrees f. (you don't want to cook the trichomes)
I do leave my sativa's moist enough to cure for a week or so, though.
I have the 100x RS microscope, and it is cool, but a 5x magnifying glass works for 'reading' the trichomes.
A week or two longer in veg would help to increase yield.

Thanks, glad to see more people here.
Yes I know I could have vegged it for way longer, I only did so for about a month, but my cabinet size limitations did just so, limited. But I feel these will be some nice nuggies.

I cut off 4 nugs, they are nice looking. Cut off the 4 most-yellowing ones. Hanging them in a cardboard box to dry, will hopefully have some dry buds in a week.

I'm planning on LST'ing that little indica I have growing under the HPS. Once I harvest the rest of the stuff, which will be in a couple minutes due to the upcoming smoke report, I'm going to switch it back into veg for a bit and get a couple more nodes out of it. I have already topped it and it is coming back nicely. I will tie each, or all ends(depending how many tops come back) to a corner and see where it goes from there. Due to the size of the box, I am not going to be able to grow any large plants, but growing some nice smoke is always welcome.
Ok, bud report.
So I got excited and quick dried one nugget. 200*(I know it should be lower, but my toaster-oven only goes down to 200*) in the Toastation for about 15 minutes. WAY to dry. Put in bong(I am rehydrating it as we speak, via glass jar and morning breath) and lit up, very high. Different high. Very up, body is somewhat high, I think thats from the purp I just smoked though. But instantly when I hit my nugs, I just spaced out. I like it. But I need to chop the whole thing down, it seems I waited to long, or muffed up somewhere cuz there were some dried leaves in the nug. The trics are nice looks, about 90% cloudy and 10% amber. So its a little early, but oh well, I dont wanna smoke dead nugs. Don't have a scale so I will have no idea how much I yield, but whatever, I'll be high.:D

I haven't needed to use the technique for cannabis, but there is a bonsai technique called Kengai. (cascade or full cascade) It's tying the main stem of the plant to below the rim of the pot. If you have the lateral space, it might add a few inches (half a foot or more) to your vertical capabilities. Would have to train the initial shoots, too.

Ya never know till you try. Dialing-in the temps and times is the hardest part. I set my timer for 1/2 hour increments, but usually do a whole plant at a time.
Dried leaves in the bud...prior to harvest...? What color are they?

Dried leaves in the bud...prior to harvest...? What color are they?
Yellowing and brown. Some of them crispy, but came right off. Found one spot while trimming the whole plant, and there was like dark purplish fuzz, so I cut the fuck out of that spot and just to be sure a bunch more from that nug. But that was the only one with the dark fuzz. The leaves of dark dried and yellow leaves were all around it, I think I waited too long or something. I could have killed it, who knows, the roots were just barely damp, but I watered it about 3 days ago so, who knows. I am pleased, can't wait to see the rest of it all dried and what-not. THanks for stoppin by, cant wait for the next grow-around.
