So I am set to begin college in under two weeks. About to move into the dorm, meet my roommate and the like.
I had to move 350 miles to go to college. Back to my old home town. If only there were more than 2000 people living here, it would be bearable.
If only there was a reliable source of pot, it would be bearable.
Hell, if there was a reliable source of the most shwaggiest, brownest frownest, dirtiest looking bud in the world, it would be bearable.
But instead, I have to go through family members, who go through friends, who might know a guy who knows a guy two towns over.
I live in the country though, with nothing but corn fields and trees all 'round. Just begs to have a field of my own.
But that is all negligible. I am kind of freaking out about going to college. Change hath never set very well with me. I am going there for what I love though, double majoring in English lit and philosophy.
Does anyone have anything to tell about their college/school life or experience?

I partied way too hard my first two years (at least party your first year) - I'm starting my fourth year
The dorms is one of the best experiences I've had in my life (24/7 of friends, booze, girls, and weed.)
Great experience to meet people and find yourself.
Try to at least pass one class this fall....

lol I plan on it.
I'm taking chemistry, class as well as a lab, honors english, general philosophy, german, and several more classes.
18 hours all together. I wanted 20, but I didn't wanna push it too much.
I'm not much of a party goer. My college life will most likely seem bland. I need to socialize more.

Socializing/networking is pretty important throughout college (not entirely necessary)...but partying doesn't have to be the only option - it's just a great way to meet a lot of people at once.
There are plenty of clubs you can join and extracurricular activities available
My best advice - enjoy you're first year as much as you possibly can, because you will need to buckle down soph/junior year....

ps. I just took the second semester of general chem this summer...just make sure you keep up on all your homework...most of the exams are mainly calculations using the formulas used in the chapter and in the homework problems..
You will need to be versatile when using your equations because the Prof. can throw a lot of curve balls
If you do your problems, you're guaranteed a high B

I took AP stats in high school, and it was the one class tagged as being truly college like. Only tests where graded, shit tons of reading every night. I won the stats award my senior year lol. It was nothing but being able to apply equations in a variety of ways.
I'm not too worried about keeping up with my grades, learning is a great joy of mine. I want to break out of my proverbial shell a bit. Where I used to live, I managed that, but starting anew is a little scary.

I love college, I will be starting my sophomore year as a plant biology major (genetics, breeding, systematics, etc.). My first year of college was the best time of life to date. I was feeling the same way you were WOTL. I was really nervous, didn't know what to do when I got there, confused, but no matter all of that I really just wanted to do it and get away from family for a little while! This year I am going to need to buckle down because I am going to take organic chemistry and cellular and molecular biology in the same semester, both with 4 hour labs every week... :wtf: Good luck to you all and try to find out who you REALLY are. College brings the you out that you've never known before!
One love,
SMG

My first year I dormed, some of the best times of my life. 2nd year I decided to get a place five minutes off campus with three other guys.
Off campus is by far better imo. Not only do you have your own room and privacy, but you don't have to worry about any pesky "hall monitors" as I call them or anything. I remember feeling real paranoid smoking in the dorms, now it's a load off my mind knowing I can smoke anywhere and do anything I want without any repercussions. Also, if you want to bring a girl back at three in the morning after a party, well let's just say things are much more private then if you had your friend sleeping a top in the same room.
All in all I did rather well my first and second year surprisingly, 3.4 gpa so far, the key I think, is to work real hard, get all your work done, and then party mercilessly, drink, smoke, fuck, whatever...as long as you burn yourself out. Much better than partying and then having to get work done...well it worked for me :rasta:

way to be man, way to be. All I gotta say is live your life, end of story.
Also, I don't want to major in plant biology because I love cannabis. That is NOT by motivating factor. Its really very simple...I love all things plants, I love the way they work / look / smell / differ etc. I see the world of plants as something that I could never get bored with or stop appreciating. THAT is why I am majoring in plant genetics, breeding, systematics, etc.
Stay Up Son,
SMG
P.S. - MPLSweedman, what area are you located in?
