J/K man.. I used to drink that stuff by the gallon, unfortunately it was accompanied by a gallon of absolut most of the time :D
Since those days, I have learned to enjoy greener pastures.
DTR, I'm buckled in and ready. I got some beans a year or so back, I was told they were MK, but I don't think they were. I'm excited to see someone show me what it shoulda looked like:thumbsup:

DTR, I'm glad I showed up for this one - consider me subscribed!
I've come across a bunch of people who do not like DNA at all, but I'm growing out some Sour Cream, and it looks like it's going to be outstanding. I have a feeling with a name like LA Woman, you're going to have your hands full - hopefully she won't be high maintenance!
I don't know much about MK Ultra, but in your hands I'm sure it's good as gold.
Best of luck to you, my friend!

I've never heard much about DNA as far as the grow aspect goes but L.A Confidental and Martian Mean Green are two strains I've wanted to try for some time now and it's these two that are crossed to make L.A Woman...Awesome to see ya bro and thanks a mil for the KIND words!!!

Oh c'mon man,I only vegged the last one 50 something days, lol!!!
Actually about to do a little juggling act killa...Getting layed off on Friday and shooting up to a girlfriend's house upstate on Sunday to get laid,lol!!!...Won't be back home till the following Friday...Gonna leave em in the 2 gallon pots and over water/feed em right before I leave...Gonna leave a mix of molasses,Sweet, and SuperThrive to be used as sort of a flush/whatever to be fed from the bottom starting Wednesday by a wonderful person(73 years old bless her heart)...They're gonna be mighty root locked, but I don't wanna put em into 5's until I get back for obvious reasons...They'll be switched to 5 gallon pots upon my return...I'll also switch the 400 system to a 600 and give em a "warm-up" under a 600WATT MH conversion bulb before flippin' em...
Hope everything's Okey Dokey Brother K 12345!!!

Peeps have made remarks about the DNA crew but it seems their product is damn fine. THSeeds always interests me, I'd love to try some of their gear.
They look great, Dave. It's funny how some peeps like to have plants in very roomy containers and others keep them tight (Soma grows out trees in 1 gallons usually). My bro put his into 5 gallons a little too early, and when things got a little chilly (68-70º) they didn't drink up their water quick enough and he ran into severe stunting period probably caused by a root disease. Fortunetly, they came back and did pretty good, but had a low yield. I know your way on top of this a lot more than he was (his first real HID indoor grow). But just a few thoughts for the readers out there. Careful when you water after transplanting into larger pots.

Thanks a mil Shove!!!
I only grow two plants at a time and find my yield is better with larger containers...
Glad to hear your bro's grow came back, and your transplant advice is excellent...I would tell newer growers to make sure their transplant mix is evenly mixed and watered but not to wet...I also cannot recommend the multi tier transplant (BOG) method enough...It gives the plant more (RTG),room to grow and gives more oxygen to the roots...Both of these factors will improve yield...
A PLEASURE to hear from ya Shove...Laterz man!!!

Glad you asked fourkicks...
BOG are the initials of one of my favorite growers...It stands for "Bushy Old Grower"...Besides being a Master Breeder,he's also famous for this "Multi Tier Transplant" style...As I've said, this style gives the roots more room to run and more oxygen as well...I have a grow book by him called,"Bonanza Of Green",and while it's not a coffee table book lol,it's very good reading and I recommend it...
One of the most frequent questions people ask me about this is,"Doesn't it harm the plant to have the roots exposed"???
My answer is no way...The amount of roots that are exposed is very small compared to the ones that are covered...I usually put the rootball down a little more than half way,but even if I just put em in a couple of inches,I'd have a carpet of roots from the top of the pot to the bottom by the time I finished flowering...I've seen trees growing in the country that have roots bursting through the grass and trees growing in the five boroughs with roots that bust through sidewalks, lol!!!
If you look at the pics at the beginning of this grow, you'll see I started em in small plastic cups...(MAKE SURE YOUR CUPS ARE RED!!!)Sorry man, that's an old HG420 joke,lol...Any color will do...When they get root locked,I transplant into 1 1/2 quart pots...After that they go into the 2 gallon pots you presently see...It's so cool watchin' a plant that was starting to get bunched up just all of a sudden take off!!!I'm talkin' "Born Free" and "Little Shop Of Horrors",lol!!!
These are pics of rootballs in 5 gallon pots from previous grows as the L.A Woman and the MK Ultra are still veggin' in the 2 gallon pots...
Hope this helps a little and thanks so much for lookin' in fourkicks!!!

Hey DTR.
Great thread and looks like you are doing well. Sorry you got laid off....but hopefully you did get that lay when you were away for a few days.
I was reading that you were switching the plants to the 600 watt for the warm feel just before flowering. I am growing a hybrid of the MK Ultra now and took the advice to use a 400 watt after cloneing. I was dissapointed and switched back to the 600 watt bulb with a Lumitek immediately when into the vegitative. I noticed a great difference.
I don't have as much experience as you but I thought it would be of interest if I could be the test subject. It did not hurt my fully rooted clones and gave me very robust 12 to 15 inch plants in 14 to 16 days. I flower them from there as I must, due to limitations of height.
Hope you are well and thank you again for the great pictures and information.

Thanks OV!!!,and don't worry about the job thing...I've been a union journeyman in the constuction trade for 21 years and not once did I not make my hours...Layoffs are part of the biz man...If I was worried I wouldn't be shootin' upstate, lol!!!
I'm not familiar when the Lumitek...I've heard of it though and I'm sure it's a fine light...I'm a little suprised to hear your 400 wasn't doing a good enough job for veggin...
I start off with a 200WATT CFL for new plants...I then use a 400WATT EYE Hortilux Metal ACE Conversion bulb for most of the veg...Next is a 600WATT SunMaster MH Conversion bulb that might outlast me as I use it only a week out of every grow, lol!!!This is just to help ease the transition into flowering that will come within a week when they're flipped to 12/12 with a 600WATT EYE Hortilux Super HPS bulb...
Wishin' you a trouble free grow and an abundant harvest OV!!!
PS...If height is a factor I can't recommend SweetSeeds JACK47 enough...Short uniform plants that kick ass!!!I have a journal here somewhere...
thanks for the info man.it makes sense and i might just give it a go next time. your plants are looking ... do you water the top layer of roots or just the lower part??

I water from the top until I get runoff most of the time...If I'm going to be away a short while as I'm about to be,I'd rather my "plant-sitter" feed em from the bottom,as there's less room for mistakes...
I fed em Alaska Fish Fertilizer and Botanicare Sweet today...I like the Alaska as they near the end of veg...MaxiCrop Liquid SeaWeed is awesome veg food as well, throughout the veg cycle...
Excellent questions fourkicks...Thanks again man...
40 days veg and slurpin' Alaska Fish Fertilizer...

Sweet! Came upon your grow in time for the main event.
Just scanned your other logs...You get some kick-ass results.
I didn't get all the specs on the space, looks about maybe 4 foot square? How much side lighting are you using, are those 4-bulb fixtures?
Gotta comment on the transplant method, never seen that before, looking at your plants tells me it's a good method, though. I'll definitely be adopting that!

Appreciate ya sayin' so EvilC...Thankyou...My space is approx 3'x3'x8'...The lights are four tubers but I usually only use two in each if growin 2 plants...I'll be using four in each this time as you'll read about in a minute...This transplant style will give a better yield...

Mind if I cry on your shoulder Shov,lol...Feel like shit to have to report this but I got my first hermie ever from the first THSeeds bean I ever planted...Nothing against THSeeds as this is the chance a grower takes when growin' (fems)...Needless to say,I'm pretty bummed, but as they say,the show must go on...
The MK Ultra was removed from the grow area and destroyed at "lights on" of 5th day flower...It couldn't possibly be mature enough to have pollinated could it???Male flowers(balls) were still undeveloped...
The L.A Woman now has the area to herself and is pretty stinky at first week flowered...Wish I would've known...I would've vegged her a little longer and used a bigger pot,lol...
OK everybody...The show will go on...Gave ya the bad news first...The good news is I got called back to work(without goin' on the list),and start tomorrow...Workin' 3:00PM to 11:00PM and I'm once again the steward...

I got 3 hermies out of 5 femmed on the widow i just did from greenhouse. Back to mother nature's way for me, I trust not in the femmed phenomenon anymore.
Just curious, but did you ever consider using reverse or anything once you saw that it was hermie? I would have, but mine didn't hermie till like week 7 which was strange. At least that's when I saw nanners. Didn't end up with many beans in the harvest tho. Maybe 25 or so.

To tell you the truth killa,I don't know if it was a hermie or just an all and out male...I saw tiny puffs of leaf at the nodes with something even smaller next to it that when looked through a magnify glass, looked like it could become a nanner if left to grow...Didn't look right man...
I appreciate the wise advice and will take it into concideration...If anything,I might LST the main cola and watch the rest compete to be dom while I side sup the shit out of it...THANKS Killa!!!

I hear ya irydyum...I've only grown (fem) beans since I started growin',(about 5 years now)...Many reasons for this, the main ones bein' time, room, and the amount of plants I wanna have goin' at a time...Never had a problem before this and have been not only pleased but amazed as well at the quality and quantity I've grown...
A guy wrote the following on the same grow thread I have going at THCfarmer...
DTR - Mate, sorry to hear of your MK Hermies, but mine did too....it seems the entire lot are hermies. I should have warned you but I figured you already knew. Don't bother with the rest of the pack, they're all shit...
Made me feel a little better, lol!!!As I've said,I have no ill will towards THSeeds as this is the chance a (fem) grower takes when growing with this shortcut...I wouldn't have went with the reverse...My first instinct was to get it the fuck outta there, lol!!!
Thanks for the KIND words and hopefully the L.A Woman will still be a decent show...

Dang. Sorry to hear about the MK, that's a drag. It's a good thing you like variety, it would have *really* sucked if they were *both* the MK!
I wonder how widespread this is? Going by the excerpt above, from the other forum, there could be a whole lot of not too happy customers out there. If there is a whole batch of seeds that are bad and THSeeds isn't doing something to correct the situation, well, it doesn't make me wanna run out and buy their product.
Well, here's hoping for a plump and juicy L.A. Woman! :D

I wonder how widespread this is?
Very widespread in the Femenized seed lines. I think it really depends on the methods the breeders use to create the fem seeds. Some force hermies via stress, some use some silver solution as a foliar to force male flowers, and I'm sure there are other methods.
I'm not sure which one of these leads to the best end product, but I think since most fems are made with hermie pollen (one way or the other) that most of them will have the hermaphrodite trait in the genetics. It's just the gamble you take for the guarantee of no males.

Thanks for the info, haven't really done any research into the Fem stuff, I thought they were pretty stable, consistent. I thought wrong. :o

Haha, the fem seed biz...what a racket. "No guarantee it'll be a female,... but it won't be a male"! :D
I was thinkin' on my next order a bunch of fem "singles" would be a great way to diversify the genetics, affordably. <shrug> First, think I'll see what the four beans I have now do. :wtf:

Hey DT. NICe looking L.A, Mine is still a wee little one, but I just got my new light and they all should be on their way.
I was wondering tho, Why did you not plant the whole root ball all the way in the dirt, isnt letting the roots out at the air, letting them get sunlight, i dunno, bad haha. Lemme know b.c im curious, never seen anyone do that. Sorry as well to hear about ur hermie. My first grow, only one female and she hermied on me wayyyyy late, maybe 1-2 weeks left of flower, small small ass beans, in no way made the bud any worse, just a few little pops here and there when smokin, but I wasnt able to find nanners anywhere. U shoulda kept her, let the nanners fill out and saved some, then gotten a nice fem strain and pollinated her with the L>A woman to make some sweeet sexy fem seeds for the next go around.

I'm not sure which one of these leads to the best end product, but I think since most fems are made with hermie pollen (one way or the other) that most of them will have the hermaphrodite trait in the genetics. It's just the gamble you take for the guarantee of no males.
Totally agreed man...Like I said it's the first time I had a prob with (fem) beanz but this is the chance that I take with this shortcut...
:wtf:
Understood man...The (fem) beans I've done with no probs are-
Dutch Passion
Paradise
Green House
Sweet Seeds
and hope to add DNA to this list shortly
U shoulda kept her, let the nanners fill out and saved some, then gotten a nice fem strain and pollinated her with the L>A woman to make some sweeet sexy fem seeds for the next go around.
well i just read threw this again and found my answer. That is interesting and actually makes sence, Im gonna try it on 1 of my mothers and possibly my clones. I was wondering tho, You said jack47 is a shorter plant I have about 4 ft in height, would u suggest I top or fimm the strain?
Glad you got your transplant answer...
I'm not into breeding so I'm not lookin' for pollen or males...
I have a friend SOLID from across the pond who said that his jack47 didn't respond as he had hoped to toppin'...Trust me,they'll stay short...
sorry to hear about the herm DT.
-shake
Appreciate it Shake...Like I said to Killer,I'm not positive if it was a hermie or male...Very few small pistols that I saw were discolored and could swear it was gonna grow balls in the near future...Definately didn't look right to me...

My next grow is gonna be SweetSeeds BlackJack...I also would like to try a Kiwi (fem) strain such as MakoHaze in the near future...

Really appreciate ya sayin' so 4kicks!!!Thanks man...
I use 1tsp of molasses and 1 TBS of Botanicare Sweet per gallon on the third day of a three day flush...The above is all my grow gets after I cut off their nutes at least 2 weeks before harvest...The last week before harvest all they get is plain water and FinalFlush...

Really lookin' good! :greenthumb:
I've read the Lady is a long time to finish. If so, you are off to one HELUVA good start. :) Can see some *nice* clusters forming.
I was told the L.A. didn't branch very much, yours branched pretty darn good, especially for a plant that hasn't been fooled with. Based on the breeder description I wouldn't have considered it for a ScROG grow, but seeing it actually grow out, I bet it would do quite well. She has a nice profile and good development down low.
BTW..Those T5s are nice. No shortage of light in there...
With regard to the bat guano in your "flowering mix", do you have a preference on brand? I know it can't be the stuff my local garden center carries, as this stuff is high in N. I'll have to order it up, might as well get the same stuff.

Yep,she seems to have branches although they're very managable...
T-5's are awesome and definately cut down on the need to LST or scrog which I always associated more with a grow thats only gettin' light from the top...
My bat guano is from SunLeaves and it's Jamaican bat guano 1-10-0...My seabird guano is from Guano Co INT'L INC and it's 13-12-2...It wasn't a matter of preference but rather convience and I liked the numbers...I use these to make tea as well as ammend my medium...
I really appreciate your KIND words and support Evil...Thanks so much man...

Just took a fine look at the pics.. even with the minor root exposure the plants maintain health rise, very interesting IMO. And with this method you get about an extra gallon of grow room in the pot it looks like to me? But one last question on this...when to transplant best ? when rootbound 1st starts showing on plant or before ? Never a prob deleafer...Excellent questions...
I'm getting an extra gallon minimum, more with some grows depending on how high I stack...
My first two transplants are done when the plants are slightly root locked...You can spot it right away...That little droop that says "lemme run"!!!My final transplant isn't always as root locked as I'd like it to be especially with a Sativa or Sativa dom...If the plant is gettin' to tall or wide I'll transplant her even if she's not rootlocked as I know I'll have to start flowerin' in about a week...I always water the day before transplant as it helps keep the rootball together..."Room to grow" equals bigger yields...

No way man...LMAO!!!I know my photography skills and equipment suck, lol!!!
I didn't rotate the L.A Woman because I didn't wanna stress the plant with a burn from the T-5's...She's trained the way she is and I'd have to FCK with her to be able to rotate her...She seems alright so I'm leavin' her be...Shov puts a wire mesh over the surface of his T-5's and I'll be copying that one of these days 4sho...Some grows that I do need so much support that rotating is out of the question...

The crappy pic I'm about to add to this thread had me thinkin' I could really spice it up with some of "MY" porn pics but I'm gonna follow the rules and keep it boring, lol!!!(the pic is from yesterday or the day B4)...
It would take a good man or two to give this girl a stress free transplant, lol!!!She's close enough to finishin' to where it isn't necessary(spelling)...If I ever do a one plant grow again,I'd love to try transplanting from a 2 gallon pot into something bigger than 5 gallon pot...I didn't see this coming...Happy ThanksGiving to ya BP!!!

Hiya Killa!!!
DNA says the flowerin' time is the better part of 9 weeks...I'm lettin' her go 9and a 1/2 weeks give or take a day...She's Off of the BigBud and has been slurpin' 1 TBS OverDrive,1 TBS SWEET,1/4 tsp Jack's Classic 10-30-20 or KoolBloom 2-45-28 (per gallon)...Her last feedin' was last night a couple of hours into her 51st day...You know the deal...From here on in,she gets nothing but 1 TBS SWEET and 1 tsp of molasses (per gallon)...The last week before harvest she'll get nothing but FinalFlush...
Thanks so much for the PKxPR F1(fem) offer bro...I'll keep it in mind...If you can think of any strain you want, name it...
HAPPY GOBBLE GOBBLE TO YA KILLA!!!

Thanks Evil...Not as much sugar on the leaves as alot of other growers would've got off of her but that's my fault...I'm not the technical grower that many of the growers on this site are...I grow by eye without a PH meter...
What I shoot for is a plant that's well flushed, with an even amount of color changed foliage, and large potent frosty buds that tatse delicious...She smells wicked man!!!

2 cool as far as the BOG transplants go...It's an awesome way for a dirt grower to make the most of his footprint...

Had a great couple of days so far this ThanksGiving weekend, hope you're doin' the same man!!!
She'll be in Tight-Pac containers curing rightously by the time Christmas comes around as she'll be chopped Dec.11 the latest if not before...
I'm not even sure exactly what DWC stands for although I know it's one of the hydro styles...I'd guess the for 2 are Drain and Wick???I was a plumbers helper as a teenager and always think of Drain,Waste,Vent when I see D,V together,lol...Hope it works out for ya with bountiful harvests of top shelf bud deleafer!!!
L.A Woman at 54th day flowered in the home stretch...As I said above, she'll be chopped Dec.11th the latest...She's only gets Sweet and molasses now...Her last week before flush she'll get nothin' but FinalFlush...

Thankyou KINDLY 4kicks!!!I definately recommend the multi-tier method of transplant for bigger yields...
I run my closet with an open door and have a twenty inch pedestal fan right outside of it...I run a 25,000BTU AC 10' from the closet when it's warm outside and blow in cold air from another room 8' away when it's cold out...Needless to say,the T-5 heat is not a prob as long as the plants don't touch the bulbs...I live across the street from the ocean and get great cross ventilation...I also think that my cross ventilation of air helps the plants get more natural CO2...
My seedling mix consists of-
3 parts Pro-Mix
1 part perlite
1 part earthworm castings
My veg mix consists of-(per gallon)
3 parts Pro-Mix
1 part perlite
1 part earthworm castings
1 heaping TBS (fine)dolomite lime
1 TBS FoxFarm PeaceOfMind 5-5-5
1 TBS bloodmeal
