Do i need to get 1000w hps or can I just use the 400's as effectivly. Effective coverage each light would have is (I dont know?). most saay 6 to 8 putting them into flower @ 18 inches above base. My room is 10*20. I was thinking 5- 400 (4 hps and 1 hp in middle). Soil base. Pots (11depth*9.5deep)

This should answer your question about how much area of light those 400 watters provide.

I have a 10x20x10 white room for flowering I have 8- 400w MH/MPS lights no reflectors. 2 are in the veg room now so I have 6 left. If I get only 3x 3 coverage for each light. Thats 18- 400w for the coverage I need?? Is there a better way to attack this. I am looking to maximize the area. I was thinking 4 -1000w at the start but I landed all the free lights.
Each 400w has 36k lumes and 1000w have 110k. Dont the lumes cross or help each out?
Will movers help the situation or only give me the perception and things turn out thin without good structure?
I apprecitate the input.

4, 400 w lights would give you aprox 36 sw ft...
1, 400 w light is 3*3.. Times 4.. is 36.. On movers, you could add probably 2 more feet to each, to like a 3x5 area.. so youd get up to 60 feet.
You havce 200 sq feet, but that sounds like an awfully large grow for your first time.
If you got maybe like, 2 1000w's to give you basic coverage overall and supplemented with the 400's, you might have something.
Id check out some of the lighting articles that are stickied in the forums, that will give you a good handle on the mathematics of your situation: Indoor Lighting - Cannabis Forums Message Boards - Medical Marijuana, Cannabis Club, Dispensary, News (http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-lighting/)
