I have been trying to compare my babies with pictures located throughout this board and the more I look the more confused I get. Would anyone be so kind as to hazard a guess, my gut says this plant is a female but my nephew (growing consultant) says he thinks it is a male. Suggestions on how to take better photos would also be appreciated

Sexing isn't really that difficult, you just need to familiarize yourself with it.

You've got a male, give it the chop

When you have been a consumer for 45 years you don't become a producer overnight

Thank you for your help, HE is now continuing the circle of life as food for the deer

Though this may be true, everything about growing isn't difficult even for a beginner. I'm sorry if you might have found my comment offensive, it was not intended to be in the least, note why I didn't bash you. Just remember that it's just a weed, a lot of things about it are pretty simple once you become familiar with them!

your first post was curt and condescending.

then you compound your insult with explainations. ...if you don't learn to
be more careful with your words you will continue to insult, unintentionally.

try and remember when you were brand new.

and Shastadad, here's a couple pictures to help you in the future.

pic 1 is a female and pic 2 is a male.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your analysis bozo, no hard feelings. My response was merely short and precise. I didn't call the OP an idiot or slow or an amateur or anything condescending so I don't see how you could possibly find it being so. Like I said, it was merely a short post because the question of discussion was one that could be answered briefly. Yes, there were other ways I could have responded, but the way I did surely was not offensive. How is saying that, being able to sex a plant gets easier the more you do it, offensive? Semantics is an awful place for discussion. I admire your work bozo and I wish for you and I not to quarrel, but I do disagree with your analysis of my post.

To the original poster,

If you indeed did find my short answer offensive, I am sorry. I hope it did not come across that way because it really had no condescending aspects within it. I merely just stated the reality that is sexing a plant; the more times you see it, the faster you can point one or the other out.

Peace,
SMG

I think it's difficult in the sense that I haven't seen a plant grow before and every single newly developing leaf, stem, branch, preflower that begins to appear is to this newb eye- A MALE! You know when a plant first grows it's just a main stalk, then the side shoots get big, and then those side shoots start making more side shoots, well that new growth always looks like male preflowers to me.

Like I said, it's all about becoming familiar with the plant
