Hi there. New to this forum. Wanted to try and get some answers and/or thoughts from anyone/everyone!

My dad is 62...I am 25. We have a very open and great relationship together and talk about everything.

He lived through the 70's as a pot-smoking hippie. He also smokes pot occasionally now on the weekends.

I smoked a good amount of weed in high school and shortly after. In the beginning I had a decent/fun time with it. Had lots of laughs and it induced a care-free state within me...which was fun and enjoyable. I noticed I started reacting differently to the highs as I got older. I was getting more paranoia, anxiety, and unwanted thoughts/feelings on the substance so I quit using it. On occasion I take a small hit from a bowl thinking maybe it will be different....but nope...still old shit....ANXIETY-PANIC-ETC...I can't even be by myself and enjoy it. I just trip out too hard.

Talking this over with my dad he shares the same views. He states the weed they smoked back in his time was WAY more FUN and NEVER caused paranoia panic or anything along those lines. Even smoking almost everyday. He says the stuff now is HORRIBLE! My dad admits the stuff around today might be more potent...but not more fun. He says the stuff today looks better, smells better, and tastes better...but the high is lame. He stated the stuff way back then was an "instant good time." He states if your parents just died, wife left you, and you just found out you had a terminal decease....one joint would erase all that and you'd enjoy yourself. He mentions it always caused EXTREME UNCONTROLLABLE LAUGHTER, and even sometimes pyschodelic properties such as hallucinations, both visually and auditory. The stuff then he says was just brown leafes with enormous amounts of seeds. It just came from Mexico and was killer and wonders what happened to it?

We both admit many of todays growers aren't nice to their plants. At least the growers that both him and I know. They all seem to torture the plant. Leaving the lights on 24 hours a day...causing more yield but distrupting the natural cycle of the plant. He and I always believed a happy plant produces a happy high. Is that wrong to think? It seems the Mexican weed back in his time grew naturally and in tern, produced a fun high.

Doing more research online I read about the difference between Sativa/Indica strains. I read most of the cannabis back then was 100% Sativa. Acopulco Gold, Columbia Gold etc...were all Sativas. Could this be the answer? Are indicas more mainstream and/or popular now? I remember smoking a small bowl once with some close friends and it created what my dad is always talking about how it should feel. We laughed, were energized, care-free etc...but we never saw it again. We honestly thought we were smoking something else other than weed but were re-assured it was weed. WHERE CAN YOU FIND THIS STUFF! Why does anyone smoke anything else? THIS WAS FUUUUN SHIT!

I live in Washington and am working on getting a cannabis permit. I'm only about 3 hours from Vancouver, BC. I'm hoping to get approved and be able to drive up and sample some of their pure Sativas at the local dispensary. I see the "effects" they mention on these strains include: Euphoria, uplifting energy, social buzz, cerebral, pyschodelic, laughter etc...

I'm crossing my fingers that this is true and maybe this whole time in my life I was just smoking the wrong stuff :/ Searching for this answer online seems to lead nowhere...everywhere and every website just seems to talk about the taste and appearance...I want answers about the high. What do you think? Any answers/opinions/feedback on this subject both my dad and I would greatly appreciate! Thanks for reading my long schpeel. :)

Warm Regards,

Jeff

That was because he was young then. Everything is funner when you're young.lol
But to certain extent is was funner back then because nobody really seemed to care who smoked. You were left alone. Even most cops back then just didn't care.

Thanks for your feedback. How old are you? Did you smoke weed through the early 70's?

I'm a few years older than your dad and was also a pot smoking hippie. Did a LOT more than just smoke pot though.

Regarding the laughing and the fun times, I don't think it has to do with the difference in weed now as compared to the weed back then. I think it has more to do with the differences in ourselves and our surroundings.

Like everything else in life, when something is new, it's more fun, more exciting. Back then, smoking pot was new, not only for us, but for our friends as well. It was very easy to get into a group laughing fit. Fun times..

But now, smoking pot is kinda of old hat. We're all used to it and being that we're used to it, it's just not as much fun anymore.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

I agree with lwien123. Everything is different, now. Today's pot is very strong...:stoned:...the 'grass' in the 60's & 70's was very spotty in kicking ass.

Sometimes, you needed a supplement...:hippy:...like VERY good music..

58 I smoked everything I could get my hands on? Back then there was a lot of junk weed floating around. A lot of seeds which means you're not getting much sensimilla. Other unmentionables were a lot more prevalent than they are now. They rarely caused problems because there weren't much drug addicts back then. It was always just for recreationable use.
I think back then the powers that be just didn't know how to react to it all.

We used to go to the park and climb a tree to smoke. I had a hard time climbing back down after some 70's Columbian.

When I was young back in the early 70's, I had not a care in the world. Everything was new and I had no problems, other than the problems any young teen had. As you go thru life you no longer think you are indestructible and you actually have to worry somewhat about your kids and family and try to maintain a state of mind that if you had to do something in an emergency, you could be clear headed enough and make the right decision. My job as a teen at a restaurant was not too much stress, actually lots of fun with all my other teen friends. Then at some point after you get married, have kids and realize you need to get a good job, the anxiety may come. You need to use 110% of you brain to solve issues at work and you realize that responsibility is now upon you. So you do that dance for about 24 years with the kids and keep yourself together without smoking for the reasons mentioned above. The kids finally leave and the darndest thing happens.... you revert back to who you were back in the 70's and start smoking herb again. In my experience, I try to stay away from Sativas due to anxiety issues. I enjoy a good batch of Indica like Hashberry by Mandala. Life changes for everyone, the key is to enjoy it however you can.:rasta:

I started smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, smokin cannabis and hash by the age of twelve. Not something I would recommend.

I tended to miss out on the opportunity of being just a plain old innocent kid at times, I think. Sorta sad in some ways, I suppose. Lot of GOOD times too though, man. If I had it all to do over I don't think I'd change much. But be warned, most folks who start as early as that don't fare so well.

Was doing windowpane, mushrooms, speed, downers, and even tried heroin by age 15. I've always enjoyed these substances; back then and today.

The pleasure in any given instance, to me anyway, has always been related to the context and setting in which the substances were ingested. Learn to respect these substances and partake wisely. They can teach you much but they can also lead you to places you may not wish to go.

Grew up fast- but then the guys in my family had displayed that tendency in generations prior to mine. Lot of organized crime types in my family too, I rather regret to say. And let me warn ya, gangster types are generally not very happy people. Lucky for me I had a special ability to set stuff aside and return to being a simple kid at times though. Frankly, I have a lot of nice memories from both the straight life and my stoner experiences throughout my life. Many people in our general society don't understand how that could be so and consider folks like me to be some kind of freaks out on the fringe. But we're not. You've probably been around people like me and you just never knew it.

I took a different path than most would expect though. I've always remained a member of the entheogen community but I've also spent many years trying to improve the system from within; for the most part not revealing my true self to those around me. Heheh, THAT would have probably landed me in a prison cell many moons ago.

At times it ain't easy being an psychonaut in this society, believe me! In all honesty, the straight community would have nothing to fear from us if they were only to stop trying to destroy us.

Please forgive my verbosity. I get a little talkie after having smoked a good sativa.

I think it's mostly false nostalgia of remembering his younger days, but I would pay almost any amount of money for a few ounces of primo redbud or goldbud Colombian, or true Accapulco Gold, or real Thai sticks, or sticky red Lebanese hash with the little white flecks in it, or supposed Chinese Army hash with the big gold stamp on it, or...

well, you get the point. Tasty stuff.
