i have a few plants growing in pots on they are doing fine, however i put a few in the ground suprisingly they have been doing well too. but yesterday i went to check the ones in the ground and bottom leaves are yellow. and its just the leaves like on on each plant has yellow bottom leafs, no spots or anything. Is this a nitrogen defieciency? And if so is there a simple fix, like manure or piss or something. Any help would be appreciated. Also any links to any helpful information on hydroponics for begginers would be awesome too. Thanx in advance.

Sounds like a N deficiency to me if it's just the bottom leaves and if they aren't curling or anything.

You can add N to soil by using some slow release fertilizers that are high in Nitrogen. You can tell the nitrogen content of a fertilizer by looking at the three big numbers on the bag (also known as the NPK; nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium). If you are going to general fertilizer, use slow release fertilizer so it won't burn your plants. Also, though human urine is full of soluble nitrogen, I wouldn't pee on my plants because I wouldn't want them to absorb my piss. In the end, it is your decision.

If you want a super easy way to grow soilless, search "hempy buckets" on this site.

Hey ADubb,

SMG has got it right for you, on all counts. (he must have some botanical knowledge)

The only thing I can add is what I use for outdoors, fish emulsion. Just pour around the plant and water, acts like a slow release fertilizer and won't burn your plants. It's available at nurseries or greenhouse suppliers.

oldmac,

Found this really cool informational webpage on Fish Emulsion and fish and seaweed products. It talks about the benefits of using them and how to make them at home! I figured you could benefit from the info!

adubb,

it couldn't hurt for you to check this out either!

How do you make homemade Fish/Seaweed Emulsion? - (http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/organic/2002080041031662.html)

Best wishes to all,

SMG

P.S. - Like I said earlier, I wouldn't want to pee on my plants because I don't want to smoke a plant that has absorbed my piss at some point in time and I wouldn't want to deal with pH issues...pee is acidic...

Hey SMG,

Good link, very ineresting.

I should add one proviso when using fish emulstion, by me the racoons love it, and is necessary to wire mesh around the plants so the buggers don't dig up the roots looking for the fish.

BTW when I grow outdoors, I do piss around my plants (not on them) it keeps the deer away.

Animals are one of the biggest pains when growing outdoors and next is bad storms, especially when the harvest is due soon.
