hey guys i was looking at some grow logs on here and thought well let me just give it a try..well i will post up pics very soon.. i have around 4 seeds growing in 4 plastic beer pong cups right now.. and my lighting system and ventilation setup is very simple but im going to my local hardware store today to make things right! =]
well at this momemnt i have a light that i found in my garage a couple days ago.. and i know one light(120 watt) isnt enough for 4 plants but two of them are just popping out of the soil so in reality only two are under the light..i cleaned my whole setup before starting all of this..im just growing from the floor i have no grow box so im not very worried about my plants getting enough air because i have a door opened on and off throughout the day to get some air around the room..
now when you see this grow setup you will know im new at this so dont put me down because im going to my local store today to pick up new everything
here are pics of just the two under the plants
now with any experianced growers here what light should i get.. i know for the veg stage i should get a blue spectrum so i was going to look at more of those today so any ideas? thanks for reading!!!!! any advice is also helpful

ditch the flood light as it corporates too much heat. Get a MH for veg and HPS for flowering if possible. If you can't afford all that you can using CFL's to grow with too. It all really depends on the size of the grow area. Also, leaving your door open through out the day isn't going to help them. They will also need a oscillating fan blowing on them also, to thicken the branches and to keep the plant "breathing" per se.

Haven't started them yet, I'm still working on these blueberries. I will be upgrading to a 400W MH/HPS switchable ballast for them. Want to do them right with the OG's :D
Anyways, keep us updated on how things turn out and what you get when you go the hardware store.

Well if you CAN afford a MH soon (next 2 weeks or so) then I'd just maybe get like 4 CFL's (6500K/23-26W) for the time being and then get the MH when you can afford it, but if it will be over a month, I'd suggest getting like 10-12 (plus some splitters from wal-mart) You can buy 9 splitters ($18) and 12 CFL ($20-$35 range) and that should get you through veg really well. Remember though if you use CFL, when it is time to flower, you will need the other spectrum (2500K-2700K).
In the long run the MH is cheaper after buying the ballast and reflector hoods. Plus you will only have to deal with one light rather than the 10-12 CFL.

ok well i went to my local hardware store today and it was a complete fail. i went there and they had only two more 26 watt cfls left(what kind of hardware store is that!? >=0)so i got those and a splitter.. changed my setup just a tad..i will have photos upcomming soon.. i have realised that most of my plants while in the sprouting stage are lengthy(i will show you my problem next post with pics).. and i was trying to keep it more of a small grow but its all good:thumbsup:

quesitons:
sorry for im new to this but in the third photo.. is it normal for the stems to be that long? or should i add more soil in there.. and also do you think with a good amount of light for a long period of time on the last plant it will come back to life?

thanks for replying! well i do for around 3 or 4 hours a day.. the reason why is because when i see my plant just getting air on it and it moving all over the place i get kinda scared LOL. i think im just over sensitive with my plant. but if its the heat i will remove the tin foil and keep the fan on it for a whole lot longer. thanks! :D

sometimes the foil can have hot spots on it. I prefer white walls if you can. yeah you don't want to much stress with the fan just a little. maybe try aiming the fan to the light more to keep that cool. In the couple of first weeks I keep the fan on the light and about 4 hours of the day I will stress the plant to keep the stem strong. you will be fine, good luck.

you definitely should remove the tin foil, it is absolutely horrible for your plants. If your thinking of using mylar... maybe you should stick to white walls, they are about 80% reflective to light and mylar is very hard to work with, it dulls fast and keeping it clean is pretty much impossible. Im currently using 2m mylar and wish I would have saved myself the money and gone with white walls. You should also keep the oscillating fan in there at all times, it's good for the plant to sway back and forth... thats how you make it stronger.
Mainly I would just recommend that you work on the ventilation, your babies look heat stressed. Good luck bro :]

haha thanks for the post! yeah ive read and learned that tin foil creates way to much heat so i thought maybe one layer for a side would be alright for the time being.. but i guess not because the day i started the tin foil i started to realise the bump so it could be that! the fan is running right now.(i should really invest in an exhaust fan as well for more ventilation) .. and also thanks for the advice in white walls instead of mylar!

i looked today and started to see my plants leaves "droop" .. i felt the soil and it seemed crispy on the top and just a little moist down an inch.. would that of been the problem? could it be my fan? my fan is hitting my plant from the top of the grow box because its too powerful to be in it.. and i positioned it so it hits the walls of my grow box and so it simulates a breeze of wind all around and not so all of the wind is focising on the top of the plant... ive also thought maybe i might of waterd it too much but i dont know yet..any help? =/

never have the fan blow straight down on a plant because it can cause wind burn. Think of the outside how the wind blows from the side and can gets more air under the leaves. they stress way to much when blowing down on the leaves. I would get put the fan on the floor and have it blowing up at the lights to keep it cool and the plants will still get good air but I would need to see you grow room setup. Also its ok for the top soil to be dry but put your finger in two inch's on the side of the pot if its moist its fine but not wet. try to have if dry as long as possible. plants to better in dry spells then over watering. if the humidity is low and hot temp then the top soil will dry in 2 days easliy. I water every four days in a 3 gallon pot with half gallon of water and hum is 50% and temp is 75 and I always have a fan blowing up at the lights and havent had any problems. hopefully that will help a little, good luck.
