i live in the okanagan where it getts realy hot and dry in the summer and very cold and dry in the winter and it getts too cold very fast hear when its time for winter and vise versa. i cant let them mature naturally because by the time the sun lets them mature it wouldnt give them sufficient enouf time to ripen before the cold snap comes. so i have 8 plants that range between 2 feet and 4 feet and i have to make them flower now so they have the rest of the summer to ripen. i am going to cover them with thick black garbage bags for there dark periods to make them flower. after they are well into flowering beond returning to vegatative growth i am going to get rid of the baggs altogether so they can have the entire day of sun to work on there budds. because i have to make them flower early i am wondering about the lite to dark ratio and how it effects the plants budd sites. i am wondering if i should introduce them to 8 hours light and 18 hours dark right away to get them to flower quicker but does that decrease the amount of budd sites or not? pls help i want as much quality yield as i can and since im going to give them lots of sun once they are flowerd does it matter if i flower them faster or slower? pls reply i have to start doing this like now.

I don't think this will be quite as simple as you make it to be. You have kinda the right idea, it is possible to force flower outdoors, but if you are covering with plastic trash bags you have to keep a look out for mold. As for the light/dark period, 12/12 is really an indoor thing, since (in the norther hemisphere at least)you don't get 12/12 outdoors till late october/november(when its usually way too cold), you would probably be better off putting your bags on an hour or 2 before the sun sets EVERY day until the actual day light is to about 13 hours of light(near end of september) and then you wouldn't need the bags.

I forgot to add that if you get the plant into flowering and then change the light schedule again it will stress the plant and it might hermie on you, or die, or re-veg. None of these are really desirable.

ok i have 2.5 weaks untill i have to move the plants to a cornfield. i have to make them flower before i do that. i wont have time to do the bag technique everyday. yesterday i put baggs on them at 8 and tucked it under there pot so it is completely dark. the next day i take the baggs off at exactly 12 mid afternoon to give them there 8 hours of day and inside the baggs it is very humid and hot and my tall plants tops have fallen over and the stems are brown only where it has bent over and i assume are dead but are still attached and the tops are still well alive. it is 2:00 now and they are still bent over at the top where the stem is brown but the rest of the plant looks healthy again. they definatly did not like the hot humid bag for 16 hours and no doughtedly put them threw alot of stress for thous hours. i am assuming i had made a fatal error when i put the bags over the plants and under the pots where im guessing the moisture had to have come from. damn that was dumb. anyway i am now wondering if i had used a twist tie or an elastic band to close the baggs off around the bottom of the plants stem instead of under the bottom of the pots would solve the moisture ussue? if the stem at the bent top doesnt get better i am going to cut the alive top off underwater and use rooting solution in soil to try and save the tops.

i have no other choice than to set them outside and only visit them with water and nutrients every couple days. i hope they dont die, or re-veg, or hermie.

got pics? Anyways man I wouldn't try to "kick them into high gear" with only 8 hours of light. What I suggest, IF you can do it EVERY SINGLE DAY, is to set up a frame around the plants, and hang the bags from that, so they are not touching the plants directly. And then take the bags off once it is dark out. Sounds like you might have F'd them up pretty good with your first time, especially leaving them till noon in the hot sun, to basically steam in their own juices.

yep u got that right and thanx in a couple hours i am going to put one of thouse dear repelant mettal frames over each plant and then put the baggs over the metal frames. i am shure that will create addequate darkness without the moisture. thanx for the help. buy the way 2 of the plants are now showing sighns of sex one has her first white pistil and another is looking like its forming polin sacs but im not shure yet i will continue the light cycle for the females for as long as i can. this is the 4th day of more darkness than light and even threw the trauma they are beggining to sex. lucky.
