Newborn Drugtesting

I will state this right off the bat, I am not posting this to be judged or ridiculed. I am posting this for USEFUL advice and answers. If your just going to tell me what a bad person I am, then go away. If you have answers, advice or are speaking from experience then welcome.

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have been smoking pot throughout my entire pregnancy. I was told that when you have your baby the hospital drug tests him and if any drugs are found in his system he will be taken away. I need to know if this is true. I could go into labour any time now and have stopped smoking for about a week, but it's still in mine and the babies system(duh). I smoked about 1-2 Joints aday almost everyday. Are they going to Drugtest my baby, and If they do, will they take him from me? Will I be able to get him back? Many questions and hoping for much help. Oh, I am in Alberta, Canada.

Hey i am from england and just moved to red deer but in england they wouldn't take the baby off you but i don't know about alberta

Not familiar with the laws in canada but it can happen here in the states. She tested positive for one of the unmentionables and the CPS was going to take the baby away. Till I got involved and made them do a confirmation test where it was proven she was clean. You maybe better off having the child at home with a midwife. I would definitely do some research and maybe call an attorney for some advice.

no they will not drug test the baby un less thers more to the story!. is childerns aid involved in any way. if so and thers concern for the babys safety then thers a reason. but even at that they wont take the baby away for pot use. they will make you go to parenting class, drug rehab, and so on as long as you co-operate they will be out of your hair in no time. and you have nothing to worry about. but if you are smoking crack or shooting junk and have no desire to help yourself then they would take the baby untill yolu can prove your a fit mother!
noo worrys they cant just drug test your baby for no good reason!

the only way in canada. period. they will take your baby after birth is if there is an underlying issue regarding drug abuse..
