I just bought some distilled water expecting the ph to be around 7 and it turned out to be ph 8.2 why is this? i searched google and the sites say that the ph should go down from 7 because co2 is added when you open the bottle.

Strange....ya CO2 + H2O will yield some H+'s to drop the pH.

Maybe you'll have to invest in some pH down!

i got some but i personally hate the stuff, really annoying because you are supposed to measure ph an hour minimum after adding it and i think i have heard it goes bad if left mixed with water in a container too long and it will fluctuate. It just would be so much easier if the distilled water was the ph it is supposed to be.

either way, 7 is too high also. i measure my pH'd water right after i add the pH down with no problems.

i can't speak on leaving it out and what happens as i haven't tried this yet. maybe i will though.

what are you using to test your pH?

i test with a milwaukee digital ph tester. If the water was ph 7 i probably wouldn't use ph down until the domolite lime ran out in the soil unless i could see an issue. If you have been doing it that way without problems then the last thing you want to do is listen to me. I suck at growing lol.
