Jack Herer - HELP!

First, thanks to everyone who participates with this board! It has been a lifesaver since I started growing hydro a year ago....

Not a first-time grower, but have grown a couple of times over the last year using DWC, 250 HPS, and dry general hydro nutes (GH Grow, GH Bloom) and Molassas (I know....but I'm a poor, poor person but it seems to work...):stoned:. I've always used whatever bagseed I could use/beg/borrow/steal. I've always let the stuff grow "wild" without topping, training, etc. because frankly I was always scared to mess with it too much and was relatively happy enough to get from it what I got.

A friend forwarded me some Jack Herer seeds, so I excitedly started my grow like I did before...no topping / no training. My cabinet has about 4 feet of vertical to work with between DWC bucket and the light. This has never been a problem before (by the luck of the gods?!?). I now find the Jack is one TALL MFer. Of course, I realized this when it tripled in height during flowering. Right now I have started adding tie-downs to the top just to keep them out of the light (I now have only inches to work with). I think at this juncture that I just have cola growth (I'm starting the 7th week of flowering), but even this is too much now.

So to make a long story longer: I'm starting to slowly "burn" the bud sites on top but I am doing my best to use plant ties to tie the top mess into what has begun to be referred to as the "birdsnest." Am I screwed to ride this out at this juncture? Right now I'm just hoping to get something from the grow and not burn my house down...... My best guess is that I only have 14-21 days to harvest based on what I've seen in the past with my unknown bagseed growth.

Side note: any advice if I ever get bold enough to grow JH again in a confined area?

How many plants are in the pictures, the first looks like one, the second looks like, i dunno, a bunch. What is preventing you from raising the light, is there celing right above it?

Oops..sorry about that...I guess that's kinda important. No, it is just one plant with a lot of undergrowth. At the top I have my carbon scrubber and blower which takes up the top 10 inches of the cabinet, but it's already as high as it will go. The light is already pressed up against the blower as is. I thought about cutting the bottom out of the cabinet to drop the bucket down, but I only gain about an inch or two (at best) and lose a lot of structural integrity of the box. If your into the 7'th week all you can do is alittle tieing down and hang on the ride is just about over.

Just make sure you start flowring about 16 to 18 inches. Hawwian X Skunk does about the same. It looks like strains that are mostly sativa can get away from ya in hieght.

there a few things that you can do to control that beautiful beast of yours... it seems like its going to be hard considering how tall they gotten, but you might be able to pull through. You can go ahead and use LOC NAR's advice and tie it down, you can also set a net at the top of it and anchor it enough so that it applies SOME pressure to the plants... you can also try using like a clear platic tray with some ventilation wholes to allow humidity to escape and then tie some type of anchors to it (fishing weights, etc), just make sure not to apply to much pressure and hurt/snap your baby.

Thanks LOC and SRH! I hadn't thought of using a net.... I'll look into some bird netting or some clear plastic/glass from HD. I'll scramble and see if I can salvage a nugget or too!

BTW: I actually flipped over to flowering when this particular beast was 9 inches high. I did the 36 hour in the dark trick I learned here, and the nodes then were really close. As soon as the switch was on she just started reaching...then it was a race to the top of the cabinet. She won... Thanks for everything-off to HD!

seems everyone has given you good info but figured id through in my 2 cents since ive grown jack herer twice and didnt make the same mistakes i did the first time...

the first time i grew this i topped them when they were about 10 inches and let veg for another week and then turned to flower.... they grew massive even tho i thought they were topped quite soon either way the stretch was like 4x and they still continued to grow taller up to harvest.

this time around i wanted more bud sites but didnt want them to get as tall i topped them around 15 inches with about 7-10 nodes then i moved them to flower about 3 days later. once they got about 2 1/2 feet and realized at this rate i was gonna run outta space i tied them over 90 degrees about the 2nd or third node down. seems to work great they only stretched about another 10 inches and get more light to the good spots. anyway i have large bushes now and they are only about 3 -3 3/4 feet from top of soil and looking great

ps remember jack herer is a conosuir plant not a commercial one it has nice yields but can take up to 11 weeks to finish flowering ive read fem JH will finish sooner which is what i had they were 90% ready for harvest at 9 weeks
