I am starting my first inside garden and would like some advise on lighting. I am thinking of buying 1000 watt hps with chrome reflector and with a 1000 watt hortilux light bulb from inside sun. I have been growing outside but I want to grow a garden inside. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, im currently growing 6 plants under a 250W hps. You need tell us about the size of growroom, that way we can suggest a good light to use.
HID or HPS is the way to go though... floodlights & fluros arent really that effective.
Stick with any HID or HPS & you got urself some bud easily.

well id say get 2x250watt mh for veg, then 2x250watt hps for flowering if u want kinda a good grow. 1000watt could be ok, but it will suck out electricity, watch for that

2X250 mh + 2 X 250 hps = 1000 watts already. It'll probably draw more current than a 1000 watter because you have 4 separate ballasts running, each one will takes a hit in efficiency so it'd end up being more current drawn than a 1000 watter. Not to mention how much more expensive buying 4 complete lights would be compared to buying a 1000 watt hps. But having multiple areas allows for perpetual harvest techniques but you obviously will need at least 2 lights (one for flower and one for veg)
General rule of thumb is about 50 watts/sq ft. A 1000 with a good reflector should cover about 4X4 to about 5X5 area pretty good.
You could use fluros for veg, they work well for it and keeps them bushy and get the 1000 watter for flower. Or maybe a 400 watt mh for veg and 1000 watts for flower. Or you could use the 1000 watter start to finish but it might run up the electrical bill, you can just figure it's gonna consume a little more than 24 kilowatt hours.
24kw hours X cost of 1 kw hour (should be on energy bill) X 30= cost per month.
For flowering it'd be 12kw hour since you have 12 hours dark period each day. so it'd be 1/2 the cost of above.
Drop the chrome reflector, get one painted white, they generally reflect light better and reflects less heat. Bell lighting has really good reflectors (AN tested them) but I dunno if they're still in business.
