Hello Fellow Hydro Heads...
A little about me first. This is not my first grow. This is however, my first hydroponics grow. I have been researching this for the past 3 months before I decided to take the plunge into growing with hydroponics for my medical cannabis needs.
Seeds:
I started with an order of Citral from AmsterdamMarijaunaseeds.com (http://www.amsterdammarijaunaseeds.com)
A lot of people are probably wondering why this was my choice for my grow. Well, it just makes sense. Hard to kill these plants as they are very resilient. They do not have the crazy odor you will get from most indica/sativa blends...and it has a high THC content. And, the yield is not bad either...1 pound per square meter of grow.
My grow space:
The room I am using is a handicap bathroom. It is huge and is sectioned off very well with natural walls. I converted the shower area for Veg and it is 4x6x8.
Flower room is 6x10x8...need I say any more?:hippy:
It has built in ventilation. Air-in is is courtesy the air conditioning system...bravo. Air-out is via the top of the room with two air vents on timers (1000 CFM blowers). Mind you...the room came to me this way! Yeah for me!
Lighting in Veg:
I am using a T5 florescent with 4 bulbs for my veg room...
Water and nute system:
Drip hydroponics systems with 3 part nutrients. Following it to the T. I have seen this system work perfectly for thousands of people. Why mess with the tried and true.
.................................................. .............................
Now you all know what I am using, We will get to the flower room later in this thread. When we get to that point.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Onto the questions...Opie Yuts...this will not be the first time you have given me epic advice. but, the first time you have given me advice for hydro.
I started with 20 seeds...15 popped and sprouted. 5 of them now look rather leggy, and are falling over. They look really weak in the stems. Then the rest look perfect. ALL THE SEEDLINGS HAVE NICE WHITE ROOT SYSTEMS.
Please look at my pictures and tel me if my lights are too far away from my plants. Perhaps I should still be using a hood for them?
Should I just pull the weak ones now and focus on the better plants? Your thoughts are appreciated and suggestions will all be taken into deep consideration. This grow is not just for me...It is for the benefit of all potential newcomers to this art.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Happy Growing!
ps...this is not real. What you are reading is fiction. I am playing a role, as most things on the internet are fake. So is this. I do not break the law, nor do I advocate breaking the law. I think all people should never take schedule 1 drugs as they are dangerous and can cause horrible side effects (like the munchies).

Oh, that light should be about 10" or so above the top of the plants.
I wouldn't pull anything. That happens to me quite often that the seedlings are to spindley they can't support themselves. Take a piece of wire, or anything and give it a bit of support, not that it was to be straight up, but you what you don't want is the stem of the plant laying flat on the rockwool, that will kill it. They'll stiffen up as they get a bit older.

Plants tops are 12 inches from the light...But to be fair, the plants have been doing this since I took them out of the dark after 2 days. This is their 3rd day...First day under lights...Have been using nutes since the beginning.
I did take your advice and pull them off the rockwohl. I used zip ties...to prop them up...magical little device I tell you...Just bend it and it will hold up the plants. We shall see how those 5 plants do in the long run...Only time will tell. I am sure they will start growing, "like a weed," come the morning time.

every thing looks like its off to a really good start, i do however have a quick question,is that a 2 x 2 trey? if so your going 2 need at least 3 more of those.also if your interested,i was making my own treys with fitting for around 7 dollers that auctually work verry competitively to real flood treys on the market plus itl save you the $50, a 2x2 your next go around. anyways everything looks great!

Thanks Loc Nar...I will keep that in mind for the next round of seedlings. I flushed the system this morning. Only using Distilled water now.
I will start nutes next week.
I also made an adjustment to the system this morning. I put the plants on a higher table to be able to drop the lights a little lower. I think this will do the trick with the few of them that are leggy. The strong are really strong...the weak are "weeding" themselves out for me. I will still give them another 2 weeks to see how they do overall.
I am also going to apply a fan next week. I am currently using exhaust fans only and air intake to the bottom of the tray...Not using fans yet.
Does anyone think adding a fan would be okay...especially considering that a few of the plants are leggy?

If using distilled water, you will need Cal-Mag or something to replace the calcium and magnesium in the water.

What was done today:
- So I added a small fan today. The babies that were looking weak are perking up.
The Game Plan:
- I am hopeful that of the 15 sprouted plants that 10 live and at least half are strong females for mothers. I plan on having a few citral mothers in the beginning...To make more clones. Then after a few cycles, I will throw a couple of them into flower for the sake of having a couple nice big flowered plants.
- Although I am documenting my grow of Citral for the sake of documentation, I do plan on growing 3 different strains in total. I am going to decide which strains after seeing how this one goes. Any suggestions for strains would be appreciated. Heavy THC content and a good indoor yield would be parameters in making such a recommendations.
The status report on my plants:
I do know it has only been one day since my last post...I feel it is very important to document how fast the growth is during the seedling (pre-veg) phase of growth.
So onto the plants that bent...It looks like below where those few plants bent that it looks like a root now...above it looks like a healthy stem, just with some vertical issues;)
(I posted a example picture for you to see what I am talking about).:D
Watering Schedule:
I am currently watering 3 times a day at 15 minute intervals (10am, 4pm, 12pm). I am using 1 gallon per hour drip nozzles and my pump is more than adequate. It seems to be handling the job quite well. But, I have to beg the question...am I OVERWATERING? The plants are not drooping and showing no signs of any issues (besides a couple of them being leggy).
I am going to be adding calmag tomorrow. Thank you for the heads up regarding distilled water lacking calcium and magnesium. I will address this before it becomes an issue.
I also posted a couple pictures of some of the strongest babies. Man they look tough...God I hope they are little girls. In fact, I am praying they are little girls.

So, When I woke up this morning a few of the plants were showing signs of over-watering. I cut the watering cycle to twice a day (10am & 6pm). Calmag was added this morning also. Hopefully this will devoid myself of issues surrounding the lack of magnesium and calcium in distilled water.
Any help with strain questions would be greatly appreciated.

I have not tried citral. Interested to see what you think ?
For strains with high THC medical. I would go with papaya or Hawiian x skunk from nirvana. Those are white strains. Northern lights is good. I just tried some purple power , purple kush and white widow. They had a good crop of widow the first time but was not impressed this time. The purples were good.

I for sure will give you the 411 when I am through with the grow...From what I have heard this is a fun plant to grow...Although, it is proving to be a very difficult and tempermental seedling.

So I have taken some recommendations to heart. First, I lowered the lights to almost directly above the plants, about 4 inches above. Also, I dropped the watering cycle to once per day until the plants get bigger and obtain more root growth.
I am already seeing results from this. The plants are doing well for their first week of life. I have yet to lose a seedling, and that is promising. All of the plants are showing top leaves now and I am excited to hopefully be able to sex and keep all of the plants. Only the next 2 weeks will tell for sure.
I wanted to give a big thank you to all the contributors to this log. You are not only making a differene in my log, but this potentially helps out people wanting to gain knowledge before they wander into the world of hydroponics.
Thanks again everyone...And let me know what strains I should grow next. I am interested in some suggestions. Anything with high THC levels is game for me! height is not an issue!

So today, I checked the ph level, and I was at a perfect 5.8....couldn't ask for better from my distilled water and calmag mixture.
I had to raise the lights a bit, some of the plants were almost near the lights. The girls are showing very strong secondary leaves and i am noticing the massive root growth I am getting from the plants since I cut the watering schedule back to once a day in the morning.
I am still a but concerned about the plants as the leaves are getting much bigger. What do you guys do to keep the plants from falling over when this happens? I am trying to jery rig some things to keep them up....I am sure you can see this in my pictures...it seems to be working, but, I am still concerned about their long term growth in the initial veg state. Is there anything else I can do besides propping them up and lowering the lights?
Thanks!

So I am having some issues with a couple plants. I am seeing discoloration spots on some of the plants...Some lighter and some darker. I posted pictures for you to see.
Also, one of the plants is showing signs of nute burn? The funny thing is that I am not using nutes right now. Maybe it is light burn from my T5 light?
I am using cal mag...should I be using more? Are these signs of lack or calcium and magnesium?
picture #1 and #2 are showing a plant that is discoloring...I have one other plants that is showing lighter coloring. I did not post a picture of this.
picture #3 is showing a plant that has leaf tips that are dead...and it is also showing discoloration.

day 9 you said lights were pretty close and had to raise so wouldn't think it would take this long for heat to show up. The lightening in color would make me wanna start a super weak (like 1/4 str) batch of my trusty GH 3-part and a drop of ST but I myself never really use plain water except to flush. Just started clones and 1 seed this week and evrything is done in 1/8 - 1/4 str water with a drop of ST

LMAO!!! Well being that you ARE using distilled water, you really DO need Cal-Mag....Butttt to me it just looks like a bit of nute burn. They are too young to be receiving nutrients. Then again I'm not a hydro grower, so not really sure when nutes should be introduced to young seedlings as those.

I see the drip stake right at the plant. How wet are the rapid rooter plugs and rockwool. Maybe that. Might want to direct the drip away from the plant a bit. rockwool can be tricky when watering but didn't you say only one water time a day. HMMMM. They don't look that bad but it does look like nute burn somewhat.
martyrprojekt
07-03-2009, 08:22 PM
So I found the issue...those plants were not rooting properly. Rooting out of the rapid rotter was non-existent. 8 plants are doing fine, their roots made it through to the bottom and they are already outside of the rockwohl.
I am wondering now that the roots have gon through the bottm of the rockwohl, if I should put them in a hydrotron medium?
I removed the plastic wrapping from around the rockwohl, I was starting to believe I was over-watering. I even thought that perhaps the plastic wrapping was not getting enough oxygen to the roots. But, the cube was light and it was bone dry in the middle. Water was the issue, just a lack of it. I put the plants on 2 watering cycles per day.
Nutes and Ph are perfect. I had to toss the plants that were not doing hot into the humdity dome, and put them under 3x120 watt CFL bulbs in my clone room. I want them to root better before they go into the rockwohl. I am sure most of you will agree with this decision.
I have my strongest 8 little girls under my t5 light in the main veg room. They all have extensive rooting outside of the rockwohl cubes. I am very happy with them so far and I am positive they are going to be sexy little bitches!
I have also decided to buy some clones to work out any issues I might have with my flowering setup before the little girls get into the stage that I can take cuttings from them. I think this is a wise move to make sure I do not have any issues with the setup prior to heavy use.
Also, my white widow showed up. Started their germination last night.

I want to first start by saying thank you. I had three different issues going on with my grow. Lack of light, lack of water, and the nutrient solution needed to be adjusted.
Adjustments made:
Besides putting the smaller plants back into humidity dome under another set of CFL lights. I began to notice weak root structure in these plants based upon where they were places in my 2x2 tray. I was not feeding them enough water with nutes, and I was also lacking light to a number of the plants.
Major issues solved:
Lack of light (lumens)
Lack of Water
Lack of nutrients
This tri-fecta of problems with kill 80% of your plants. Even the luckiest of growers will be able to keep 2 out of 10 plants.
Plant Status:
You can already see the difference in one day. Of the strongest plants that were showing signs of spotting and minor wilting, are now perfect little girls again. I love the resiliency of this strain...I definitely recommend this strain to first time growers. Just be prepared to have to prop up your seedlings as they are prone to being leggy.
The new growth is strong on all of the plants under the T5 light. Root growth is through the bottom of the rockwohl, and I will be adding hydrotron on Monday. I need to give these roots more oxygen and this is the best way.
Enjoy the pictures I am supplying for you. I think you will all agree that this system is definitely working best so far.

From what I'm seeing you still have your seedling leaves, you should wait until those fall until nutrients are added. The marijuana plant has nutrients stored in those seedling leaves to get it going in the world, once those are gone it then relies on the root system that has established over its seedling phase. So my suggestion would be back off on the nutrients for now and make sure that temperatures are hospitable for your ladies. Good luck bro, happy growin :rastasmoke:

According to every website that sells nutrients...You are supposed to add nutrients to seedlings when growing via hydroponics. Advanced nutrients and General Hydroponics both recommend using nutes with seedlings.
CLICK HERE FOR THE GENERAL HYDROPONICS LINK FOR NUTE SCHEDULE... (http://www.generalhydroponics.com/calculator/index.html)
I don't want to be argumentative...but, I honestly do not think they would say to use nutes if they didn't think it was a good idea. its not like it is enough to make you have to go out to buy more...1.5ml for each gallon is not a big deal!
The funny thing is that with growing...there is always something new to learn and add to your growing system. You can always be expanding and learning more, otherwise we would all still be smoking dirty hippy schwag! Feel me there?

as I suggested earlier a WEAK mixture for seedlings/clones is acceptabe. If you run 100% nute mixture you will kill them real quick but using 1/8 - 1/4 str is fine. As Marty stated even manufactures give you this info right on the bottle. A drop of ST per gal also will help with root development and growth as this is a vitamin supplement that allows better intake of nutes and such.

Key word "sells". I try to ignore the doses and growing info from the bottles, the simple facts are that ofcourse the manufacturer to the nutrient solution is going to recommend that you use their product as much as possible (means more green for them) and those directions that you read are not specifically for marijuana.
I use these as my source of information for growing:
Marijuana Horticulture medical grower's bible by Jorge Cervantes
High Times Growers Series: Jorge Cervantes' Ultimate Grow DVD 1 & 2
Cannabis.com
Grasscity.com
I'm not trying to be argumentative but those recommended doses and schedules were not created for the marijuana plant. Live, learn and toke :rastasmoke:

Jorge Cervantes is indeed a great man, but he is mainly a guerilla grower. Not to mention, that with my experience in outdoor or soil growing, I would totally agree with you and not use any nutrients in this stage of growth because the soils are filled with nutrients.
But, with indoor hydro, it seems that people are split over this theory in the different publications. I think it goes to your personal prefrences here. I personally saw my girls do much better in terms of growth with a 1/8th nite cycle and then the 1/5 I have them on now. I am sure over time we will all experiment and find what works best with each strain. As, I am sure we have all learned that all strains are totally different than the next.
I will experiment to find the best growth and yield of my plants until I find my personal "right nute mixture" as I am sure everyone does.
In the end, I believe we are all correct as long as we are able to stinky, sticky high potencey ganja, with the best possible yield for our efforts. It was not too long ago that hydroponics wad first introduced. There will always be advancements, and we all should learn from everyone and incorporate it into our growing regiment. Whether it be scrogging or nute schedules, we can always find new ways to make fat sacks and mighty fine hash!

Good luck bro, happy growin :rastasmoke:
you are correct about the cotyledon containing nutes. i've however seen big, mature plants with them still on and as green as ever. some say this is a way to judge the health of your plants.
feeding nutes to seedlings in hydro is fine, as some of you have said.
correct me if i'm wrong about the nutes, but it is either general hydroponics or advanced nutrients that ARE formulated specifically for cannabis? i know it's one or the other.

advanced nutrients is what your thinking of. I'm not that advanced though haha. I use the FF 6 part nutrient system and attempt to tailor the ppm's to the needs of my women. I really like FF because of its organic properties and also because it breaks down so well for organic ferts. still learning haha.

are you talking about the liquids and the soluble powders? if so, isn't the only one of those that is organic is the big bloom?
-shake
Supportradicalhabits
07-05-2009, 05:50 PM
yes I am, and the big bloom from what I understand is the only one that is both organic and natural. The others have organic materials in them but they have chemicals in order for the organic materials to break down more efficiently. One of the problems that I read about organic fertz is that they break down much slower and are less efficient then the non organic, the non-organic has all of the nutrients made available instantly. As for the organics it is supposed to break down at a slower rate and makes it hard to accurately read the ppm's. As I've stated before I am still learning, but that is what I have come to understand.
BigBloom = worm castings, bat poop... cant really remember, but to sumarize; yes, technichally the only fully organic fert is the big bloom.
You may correct me if I'm wrong.
p.s. not sure if the soluble powders are organic at all, can't remember :/

The grow is looking very nice and I can not wait too get some clones taken next month to determine the sex of my plants. Should be good, I already think that I have 5 girls and 3 boys based upon the plant development and thx development on the leaves. The sticky and stinky leaves are always a good sign.

So here is the scoop on the last four days.
Feeding:
The plants have been on a watering cycle that waters them 3 times per day. I am currently using 3 part GH hydroponic nutes at 3.33,1.66,1.66 ml per gallon of distilled water.
Tomorrow begins the new growth cycle for full veg nute solution...at 7.5, 5, 2.5 ml per gallon of distilled water
Lights:
Still on an 18/6 schedule and looking good. I added two can CFL lights at 100 watt equivalents. I am considering adding 4 more to this room...since the plants seem to love these soft CFL lights. I will use my T5 for mid-growth and clones, and the CFL cans for veg growth.
Plant Status:
I currently have 8 strong (females, please god let them be females:thumbsup:) citral plants in their full veg state. They are all doing quite well, but some are doing far better than others.
Tomorrow is the day for the hydrotron. I know I have been saying this for a while, I just wanted to make sure the roots were growing nicely. Sometimes it is better to make sure everything is going smoothly before transplant.
---Enjoy the pictures I added. Please let me know what you think!

There are always runts in the crowd. Not to worry it's normal. We are watching and hoping you get all females but one male always shows up when it's ladies night. LOL That's why we don't count on just one plant. Better to have many and only lose a few.

New seedlings are sprouting and are doing quite well. I will be putting them in rockwohl tomorrow. (I swear! :D)
Watering cycle seems like it has been too little. Have not adjusted yet...but, I am considering going to 4 times per day. We shall see. It looks like the girls are hungry/thirsty. Tell me if you agree with this statement.
Calcium and magnesium deficiency is being handled. Plants are bucking up and lower leaves are showing signs of recovery. Brown spots are going away also! Slowly though.

PROBLEMS:
*I am getting one plant that is droopy
*I am getting this canoeing effect upward from the vein in my fan leaves, no downward drooping. But, something that needs to be watched.
*I am still noticing some lingering calcium and magnesium issues, which is probably the main issue that is causing all of these symptoms.
Note: It seems like I am seeing the beginning stages of lockout, only time will tell with this one!
PLAN OF ACTION:
* I am going to see if I can get the plants to perk up with the new nute schedule first. My PH is staying at 5.8, and that seems good since I flushed the res yesterday.
* If I continue seeing signs of these issues, I will be flushing with distilled water and cal-mag only. I want to see if the new nute regiment works prior to flushing the res again and using just distilled water and cal mag.
* I raised my lights today. I think I was burning the tips of the larger plants...too close to T5 light.
* I am considering putting the plants into pots with the hydrotron instead of just sitting in the tray. I think this will make things easier in moving the plants to flower later this month.
* I have decided to flower all of the these plants when the time is right and I get these issues under control. Tweaking these hydro systems is proving to be a bitch, I miss the simple nature of soil sometimes. (LMAO)....But, I know this shit smokes soooo much better.
WHAT I NEED FROM THE FORUM:
* Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong here would be helpful. At 30 days I should now be able to use full strength veg nutes to get these girls exploding with growth.
* I am wondering why growth in some of the plants seems stagnant. The plants are getting super dense, and I am not seeing much height from these girls. I raised the lights in hopes to correct this problem, as I think that might have been the case. :wtf:
* Should I flush now, or wait?
martyrprojekt
07-18-2009, 09:34 PM
So...I flushed the res...again. Distilled water with Cal mag. Ph level is at 5.8...
I also did a foliar spray of water with cal mag.
This was necessary. I could not avoid it, and I did not want to cause potential damage because I failed to act quickly. I need to get this lockout over with, and move onto some growth.
Also, I am considering tying down two of the plants later this week...to let the rest of the plants catch up to the canopy I want to develop.
So, With all of this being said...it is time to continue the flush. I let the new water run for 30 minutes after the flush during its normal watering time. I wanted to make sure the nutrients were being worked out of the tray.
We shal see the girls buck up after a couple days...and the canoeing issue will be totally gone. I am positive of it.

So...What has gone down the last two days!
Course of Action taken for Nute Lockout:
* Flushed res for 2 days with distilled water and Cal Mag, Watered for 30 minutes when I changed the res to water with Cal Mag.
* Watched the girls like a hawk, making sure canoeing effect disappeared, and discoloration was clearing up.
* sprayed distilled water and cal mag solution as a foliar spray for plants. 3 times per day over the 48 hours. (have continued to do so 2 times per day since)
Results:
*Plants became really bushy...which is the point of aggressive growth nutrients.
* 48 hours after flush and with plants showing signs of full recovery...I added full strength nutes again.
Notes:
- The mistake I made was not correcting the nutrient imbalance of calcium and magnesium deficiency before continuing with my aggressive veg nute schedule. If not corrected your plants will lock out quickly...and not absorb the nutrients needed to sustain growth.
- This imbalance caused the plants to show signs of nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, and iron imbalances. This can throw off the beginning grower...Always revert back to the original symptoms the plant was showing. Flush your system for 48 hours and address the imbalances first shown. THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM...95% of the time.
This strain is very resilient, as I have killed less resistant strains with far less issues. I have attached some pictures for you all to see the result of my troubleshooting this problem. A big thank you to everyone who has provided feedback and advice...Especially LocNar, Italiano, and TinyToon...Thanks a million.

SO the girls are averaging about 1 inches in height...I raised the everyday the last two days to get more height out of them.
They are back on aggressive growth and doing quite nicely. Huge difference in growth and vegging.
Changed res again...they sucked up tons of my water the last couple days. I am thinking about adding a fourth feeding every day. We shall see.
Leaves underneath the fans leaves were showing canoeing...Probably why my ph was so high before I changed my res...The little girls wanted more nutes. 4th feeding should do this! Fixed ph by flushing res, and adding nutes. At this rate these girls are gonna make me poor with how thirsty they are.

Thanks man I got a couple weeks left. This is the hardest time. LOL. It was getting late last night and I am going to get my camera fixed for sure.. I just started some Gavity this week and only went half strenth but got my light too close. Be careful first time I used it and it will burn them up. I raised the light some more and will be changing nutes to finish. That gavity is strong stuff.
The first pic is the big 1000HPS. Everything is orange. The next one I had to turn the light off and use my flashlight. It's the biggest fattest one and it's real hard now, it's papaya. The last pic is my hybred HawiianxSkunkxBigbud. It is a late flowerer and comes on big in the last 2 weeks. It's also like a xmas tree coming up through everywhere. I hope the gavity didn't hurt my yield. The next time I will run it just the week before the flush week and only 1/4 strenth.
Wish we could sit down and do a big fatty, that would be cool. Most all my friends are dead or have jobs they can't smoke at, OR like some are the biggest muches alive. LOL
I think it will last me a month till the next crop. LOL and a few donations for nutes and stuff. I know of a cancer patient through a friend and she will be a little better off when she sees what I'm going to bring her. Maybe she can get some good eats soon.

The trays:
*Putting into flower next week. This is where I shall unveil my flower room!
*Will be putting 30 clones into flower also...4 weeks later.
*2 tray will be only clones
*1 tray will be citral
My clones are sexy purple girls! The strains include:

Plants did really well after the trimming. Undergrowth is definitely applauding my move. Feeding now 4 times per day. Plants seem to be loving it and filling in nicely...Height growth has been excellent as well. I have added 3 inches in the last 2 weeks.
Not much else to report until I transition to flower. I am going to keep vegging until Friday to keep the weekly cycles accurate from the day I popped the seeds.
I will post pictures on Friday before I start flower. I want you guys to have a chance to see the difference in growth an extra week makes with this blend. I will say these are very short plants.

Well long story short. My nephew came by and smoked some ragweed with me and then came by with some mid grade later. Days apart. Then I smoke alittle test bud with him. Never thought family would get me. He was the only one on earth to see my grow up close. Well my nephew and friends were living at the beach for summer and getting the little 16 year old girls on the beach fucked up on coke and trying to date rape them. Got busted for coke and minors being involved. So he tried to buy from me and I said no. Not no how , not no way. Pissed him off cause the narc's were just up the street. So the next day they bust my grow. 4 pounds and all my equipment. One year suspended and 2 years probation. All done now.
Funny thing is I was not enough to get him off because I no sell to nephew narc. so he busted his coke buddy for over 12 buys and puts him away for over 10 years. Dudes brother is looking for my nepphew. Wonder why. Narc on the run and was told never to come back to my state or they will give him to the little girls fathers. LOL
It's taken a long time to get back to where he busted me just a different locale. Wish I was in Cali.
On the lighter side. It's going to be one hella XMAS this year for sure.
I'll post pic's of what they took from me. It will make you cry. Hell it will make your dog cry.

Status Report on the Girls:
The plants are doing very well and have been adding some height to them. At least an inch since my last post. The trimming of the fan leaves is proving to be a smart move with the amount of Vegetation on these girls. It definitely made the undergrowth much stronger by providing them with light.
I also added extra CFL lights for side stream...to get more light under the canopy. I believe this has also helped their vigorous growth.
I will be posting pictures tomorrow. Then we put them in flower the following day.

Oaksterdam variety does not mean clone came from Blue Sky...the breed came from there originally from seed. These 3 clones are actually GDP (grand Daddy Purple) and came from a guy who grows for Blue Sky.
My clones look rather sweet...That will be the next grow log...so stay tuned!!!! HA HA HA! The perpetual love fest continues.

All that is required is OCBC at blue sky. Medicann card is a joke, and not required at all! All you need is your doctor reccomendation (but ocbc is cool). Why put yourself on a registry that the government can seize.

Thanks Tinytoon...Finally got this room dialed in and looking good. Now I am adding another tray of clones tomorrow. Should be fun! :D
The strains I am adding tomorrow are Purple Kush, GDP, and Grape Ape. The purple Kush is the oaksterdam strain mentioned in previous posts. I will say the strongest of all the strains is the GDP. They are more lush and are growing the quickest. So this next tray will be the GDP. I am saving two of those clones for cloning. Should be interesting. I might even cross the GDP with my citral genetics...a white plant with purple...should be mighty tasty!

Sorry about the pete's or pat's but you did the right thing. Your right about a mother too. Just sit back and not worry about it mother has the genectics.
The plants are looking great. Try not to trim too many leaves they are muscles. Try tucking them under a branch to get they out of the way. When you have muscles you don't always need direct light.
We have been sooo bizy and not paying attention that we just found THRIPS. Set off pyrithum bombs this morning. Another bomb in 4 or 5 days will do the trick. First time for thrips. They came from bro in laws redbud skunk fem in soil. As I understand they need soil to grow larvae. We were just taking cuttings and I noticed the damage on the leaves and they spread to ones that just went into flower. I thought it was just some low leaf die off till I looked close and saw like shiney scale on leaves. Man they can do some damage. On closer look they leave little black dots of shit all over the leaf and man they eat holes from the bottom. We caught them before it got bad and DR DOOM to the rescue. Good thing I bought a case of small bombs way back when bro gave me spidermites.
I think this round of buds will be named after the DR.
We will call them DOOM buds, like pineapple express. LOL

Did not do any trimming...except for bottom leaves that were dying off anyways....due to lack of light...being under the canopy and all.
Also, Had to pull another male plant out this morning. This plant is very confusing. It shows an amazing top bud...then it starts to drop its nuts on you. Watch out for this if you order Citral Super Skunk!
Also...2nd try was dropped in this morning. They were already 14 inches tall...time for flower.

So I am in week 3 of flower...There was a heat issue that damaged some of the leaves...but, left the buds unharmed. The woman decided to turn the A/C off, and did not turn it back on. Caused the room to get above 95 degrees. You can definitely see the heat problems...but, the new growth and buds look fine. Thank god. I will post new pictures tomorrow.
Overall, the plants look really good. They are measuring over 3.5 feet now...and I am concerned they might get too big for the room. I will cross that bridge when I get there...especially since the strain is supposed to max out at 4 feet...and that would put the plants under the light by at least 2.5 feet. But, I am not even at the 6 week explosion yet...:wtf:so...we shall see if I need to lower the trays and figure out another draining method into the res. Maybe a side drain into res.? We shall see.
Nutes are on GH aggressive bud schedule...and they are looking rather nice. So far, I can see well over 100 colas total...Main and under colas. I will harvest the tops first...and then harvest my secondary colas 1-2 weeks later.
Tray #2...is looking damn good. Each one of my purple clones has been topped in the 3 main growth areas 2 weeks prior to budding. Each plant is currently showing over 8 main colas each. This second batch is scheduled for one week after the main harvest of Tray #1...and then I have my secondary cola harvests...the following 2 weeks.
I am estimating my yield to be very nice...final weight will not be posted...but, I will show pictures of the full yield.
Stay tuned for pictures tomorrow.

Status: Day 85, Tray#1 @ Day 42 in flower
---------------------------------
This is the beginning of week #6...Some of the leaves are starting to yellow already on Tray #1. This is happening on the big colas. Not surprised at all. They are monsters. 2 liter coke bottle sized. I will post some pictures later.
Flushing:
---------------------------------
I have a couple questions since I am coming upon it...I purchased florakleen from GH at the beginning of my grow. Since, this is still my first hydro grow...When is it a good time to start flushing tray #1? How much of this crap should I use...and when flushing should I continue using cal mag? Honestly, I get no really great answers on this when I ask...I guess it is a subjective question (depends on the grower). But, hey any ideas would be awesome.
One Major wrench to throw in:
-------------------------------------------
Also, There is an issue that I have neglected to speak about this entire time. One of the plants in Tray #1 is just now starting to bud...its gotten its crazy veg going on where the massive colas would form...and there are flowers forming all over the plant. Not a hermie...I swear.
Why the hell would this plant take so long to develop...and since this is in the same ebb and flow tray, how the fuck am I going to flush? Should I just clone the shit out of this plant? :D I dunno what to do with it...it is big bushy and beefy...it would be a shame to kill her for the sake of the other buds....
I have also been contemplating harvesting the tops and letting the bottoms continue to get more growth out of them...thus, letting this one plant play catch up. (perhaps I need to let this whole thing go to 10 weeks?) Suggestions would be great!
one more update:
-------------------------------------
I have had to tie some of my plants to keep them upright (heavy colas equal bending as they get bigger. I am assuming I should be expecting more during the 6 week explosion...but, am not sure with these strains, as they are new to me!
Picture explanations (I must be stoned if I feel the need to explain pictures):stoned:

It's mostly for beneficial bactera to feed on there by helping the plant with what ever beni's do. I have not seen where the plants actually use the sugar.

I dunno what to do with it...it is big bushy and beefy...it would be a shame to kill her for the sake of the other buds....
I am assuming I should be expecting more during the 6 week explosion...but, am not sure with these strains, as they are new to me!

let me guess the plant in question was in a corner and furthest away from the socket end of the lamp?

ding ding ding...Tell him what he has won BOB:thumbsup:...any suggestions to get this thing moving along? Of course, I could always move the tray further forward...to expose it to light! I also think this plant due to being ebb and flow is not getting as much water as the others.
I will be considering cutting down the plants to 7 per tray in the future...for obvious reasons!:D

the only way really that plant could be cheated in an E&F setup is if it is not level enough for water to get to that corner and I dont see that as possible from your pics. second, every grow I do shows me that the socket end of the light always has better growth, buds, etc. really starting to wonder what gonna happen when I get my grow room finished in Basement

disaster on tray #1....oh well. Shit happens. :D
I should have let these plants go 14-15 weeks. When I harvested them this week they seemed nice and dense...no problem with them at all...damn was I wrong.
When they dried they became all light and airy....I am hoping that in curing they get denser. But, I believe I harvest WAAAAAAAYYYYY to early. But, hey lesson learned.
I will ask the forum for its opinion before I ever harvest again. Again, lesson learned. :wtf:
Now I am onto tray #2 and tray #3...Purple Erkel, Grape Ape, and GDP.
I will be posting pictures this week so you can see their progress.

They will not go back to dense. Many of mine are light and airy. Tried gravity and it helped but I should of done it 2 weeks before harvest instead of 3.

dont knock yourself for chopping early, been growing same strain for over a year and just now getting time and such dialed in.

Total yield 1 lb....5 citral plants. Definitely a high yielder...and I cut early. Probably would have been closer to 2 pounds had I waited a couple weeks longer.
