I'm a first time grower, using the cfl closet grow method. I just sexed one plant as male and i'm hopiong the other becomes female. They are about 2 weeks into flowering.
Now I understand the basic concept of cloning, the cut made on one of the lower nodes, but I had some questions.
1) can these clones be preserved somehow and for how long?
2) can i clone my plant once i find out if she is definitely female?
3)Will i need a seperate room to put the clone in under 18/6? I have limited space and currently am in 12/12 so would i need to switch it or can i keep it under that?
Basically, in a nutshell, i'm just not sure on these cloning processes. I want to avoid having male plants in future grows so i want to be able to clone, but i need to know how the lighting needs to be. My plant currently has about a little over a month to go with the 12/12 so I'm not sure what to do now.
Thank you

I've read somewhere in these forums (I think Killas purple grow) that he kept his clones in the refrigerator for a good bit of time.
You can clone your plants once it's mature (alternating nodes/about 1 month). Just be sure to take a nice size one and not some dinky 2 inch clone that will take longer to grow bigger. That's just me though.
Yes, you will need a separate room for them. Place them in a humidity dome under 24/0 light schedule for about 10 days until it roots, then you can just put them into your grow room under 12/12 if you'd like. I mean, you CAN put them under 12/12 the whole time, but me personally, I don't recommend it. Also, best to put them under some low intensity fluorescent lights. Also, if possible, place some type of heating mat underneath them to keep the roots warmer and shoot for humidity of 85%-90%.

I have kept clones in the crisper drawer in fridge for 8 weeks and still rooted. Put clones in zip lock bag and put in fridge. once a week open bag to do air exchange then close bag and put back in fridge

a couple things about cloning and the future. ...first, when you cut a branch
off your plant, it's a cutting, it doesn't become a 'clone' until you've rooted it.
second, as tinytoon says, you can indeed keep cuttings in stasis in your refridgerator
for several weeks.
third, in the future, you'll want to take cuttings from all your plants BEFORE
you flip to 12\12, then, once rooted, flip the clones, then, in about 2 weeks,
you'll know what sex your plants are so you can shitcan the males and start
cloning the girls.
here is a link to an awesome thread on a very cheap and easy method of
cloning that might help answer some of your questions.
World class cloner new at walmart - International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=42847&highlight=walmart)
i'd also recommend you do a search on cloning and read every thread you
can find, reliable cloning is a MUST have skill.
btw, when i first started out and i only had one environment, my solution
was to run my lights at night so i could then take my vegging stuff, moms,
rooting cuts, and put them in the sun under a window while my budding plants
were in the dark.
this isn't a perfect solution though because, over time, you will forget,
and that led to hermies in my case, not in the mothers, just in the flowers.
anyway, good luck! ...if you are determined, you WILL succeed!

Thanks for all the advice. So does anyone know exactly what would happen if i took a clipping from my 2 weeks flowering plant and then attempted to root and grow it in the same 12/12 environment (that I'm restricted to)? Would it be more like a dutch grow with those, being smaller yield but a yield none the less?

i've read a bunch that you can take clones somewhat safely until about 3 weeks int0 flower. this is a general guidline and by no means a rule! be aware that this could cause your ladie to hermie!
with that being said i just took 4 cuttings off a ladie that is ~ 3 weeks into flower and have seen no negative effects.
and yes, taking those cuttings and letting them root (~2 weeks) and then putting into flower is a method, started in the netherlands, called sea-of-green (SOG). this gives your a perpetual harvest of many smaller plants.
i'm not saying that you couldn't get those clones to root and finish flowering, but it might not work well, if at all. you'd be better off taking your cuttings and putting them under less light (further than you would normally keep them from the plant as well). clones often require high humidity to sucessfully root.
give it a shot though and let us know your results. better yet, do a couple of each and see which works better. and don't forget to share those results!
