well, it's been a while since i started a thread here and, as i just completed a new
mother cab dresser conversion, i thought i'd share it in hopes of inspiring other
noobs like me!
anyway, as we are all such picture hogs, i figure i'll be posting mostly pictures
as many might find my commentary boring, lol.
feel free to ask questions though if you need clarification.
btw, while i normally welcome any and all suggestions, this cab is already done
so suggestions won't help as it's too late, lol.
so heres a few pics to get us started.

i began this project because i had a move coming, which has since been completed,
and i needed an environment i could take with me to the new crib.
actually, i needed 2 environments, the new fruiting chamber is only awaiting
the installation of the electricals and the ventilation and i can crank it up, lol!
anyway, here's a few more pics to keep you all busy, lol.

i took a lot of pics so here's a few more...

...as you can see, i opted to line the cab with foam board to insulate and muffle it...

06-20-2009, 01:37 PM
...then i went to Lowes and bought a sheet of this stuff, masonite i think it's called. anyway, it was less than $8.00 for a full sheet of it so more than enough
to skin the entire inside of my new cab! what a frikkin' deal!

...a few more pics, lol, i told ya i took a lot of pics!

thanks man! i appreciate the compliment! ...frankly, it came out way better than
i expected!
i'm a micro-grower just tryin' to feed my head so this should do me just fine
for the next several years, lol.
anyway, more pics...
justanotherbozo
06-20-2009, 02:04 PM
...and some more...lol...
and, as in all conversion builds, i had my share of wrinkles!
here you can see my solution to one where the top didn't sit squarely on the new
frame i'd built, instead it had a distinct wobble with a 1\4 inch gap either at the
front right or the back left.
my solution was to cut a 2 foot wedge which did the trick, lol.
note that i also had to chisel some of the wood or the hinges weren't gonna fit
either!
justanotherbozo
06-20-2009, 02:08 PM
...earlier i posted a couple pics of a hole i cut into the frame, with my Swiss Army
knife, and here you can see what that hole is for, lol.

that is a very nice cab sir. I am about to attempt to convert an old wardrobe. It has a few different compartments but the one I'm using is nearly 5 feet tall, 2.5 feet wide, and 2.5 feet long. So a little different dimensions than yours but the work I have ahead of me is essentially what you have done to your dressor. My dressor is conveniently missing the back to it (you open the front doors and you can see right through the back). I say conveniently because I don't have a drill bit and wouldn't be able to cut holes in the wood... so what I can do is cover the back with a thinner material.. I'm thinking masonite might be perfect... you cut through it with a pocket knife, correct? I could cut passive intake holes, a hole for my exhaust fan, and little holes to run cords through, all into the back of the dressor, if it is masonite and not thick wood. did you install electrical sockets on the inside of your cab for stealth reasons?

I could cut passive intake holes, a hole for my exhaust fan, and little holes to run cords through, all into the back of the dressor, if it is masonite and not thick wood. i did indeed use masonite but you will still need a drill bit (a $2.00 item) to make holes in it.
if you absolutely CAN'T get a bit to make holes, i'd suggest you go to a
place that sells appliances, refrigerators, washers, dryers and such, and
go through their trash looking for a suitable piece of cardboard, it won't
be anywhere near as sturdy, but it's much easier to work with.
you could then line the inside with Panda plastic (black on one side and white
on the other) to ensure it was light proof and reflective.
did you install electrical sockets on the inside of your cab for stealth reasons?
yes, and also for convenience, i built my cab to last!
anyway, here is a picture of some Panda in case you are unfamiliar with it,
and a couple of a cardboard grow to show what can be done.
just always remember that cardboard is essentially nothing but paper so
extra care needs to be taken throughout the life of the cab as paper, water
and electricity can be a dangerous combination.
frantastic

Hi, Brilliant build. The vents at the back, do they let light in? Im confused as to how to put vents in a cab that doesnt let the light in? without blocking the vent on the inside, How have you lightproofed everything?
Thanks

sorry i didn't get back to ya sooner, anyway, this is my mother cab so i don't
worry about the small amount of light leaking out the back.
if you're still having trouble figuring how to light proof your cab, give me a shout
and i'll post up some links that should help.

Nice job Bozo looks awesome. A few questions. I am preparing to do my first grow and was wondering if you could give me some advice on converting one of my extra dressers into a grow box, i dont need it to be too fancy just enough to get me by. Im looking in my storage i hope ill have an extra cabinet, it might be a little easier than the dresser thing but as of right now the dresser is what i got. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Let me ask you something since you seem to have some experience with cab grows. Take a look at the pic: it's my flower room. I was thinking about raising the table and installing my veg space below the flower table. I will be using T5ho's which aught to be fairly powerful. My concern is vertical space. How little space can one use for clones? What about mothers? Is it possible to keep small mothers, say about 12-18"? I like the climate control I have with this space. I sure would like to do veg and flower in the same area. Think that would be possible?
