Train wreck grow!

This is my first train wreck grow! so i am open and greatful to all advice!

I'm growing train wreck seeds.

Im using a 90watt LED UFO light.
250 watt HPS light:

Sterilized soil from horticulture shop.
HESI coco fertilizer with a 24, 21, 27 composition.
Temperature is between 73 to 90 depending on what light is on.
I have been using the ufo light for majority of time and using the hps once or twice a week. Ufo is very cost effective and growing results are good so far.

The seed where germinated on wet paper towel on a plate and covered by a bowl and place on a heat mat. once the sprout was about half an inch i place in soil under ufo light.

Sorry i forgot to say i the my lighting times. for the first week i was on a cycle of 16 on and 8 off. since then i have been adding 15 minutes every 2 days i will do this untill i have a 18 - 20 hour cycles.

Couple things... maybe you could fill up your container with a little more soil, so that only 1in. of the container brim is showing. Some problems may occur if the soil is too low.

What kind of soil are you using? Sterilized means that it has no bugs? Does it have N-P-K in it already? I don't see any perlite there either, I'd mix in 25% of that with your soil from now on.

Also not really sure about those nutes... maybe look into getting some Fox Farm or Canna nutes for the future.

You would see faster growth if you used the hps more often... what kind of ventilation you have for that? With those temps you could probably just get a cooltube and small fan, and your temp problems would be resolved, and you could run the hps full time.

I would rather use hps bulb i know that she will grow faster but i have a limited grow space so the ufo was a freeby from a friend so chanced my arm with it! i am looking into a cooling system but my grow shop is a good drive away!
Ill post more pics later on in week ill run hps full time to give them a boost

NP :jointsmile: glad to help. Not really sure, depends on how much it has stretched, but you can bury the stem up to the first set of leaves (the cotyledons or something :stoned:)

They have feeding charts with a bunch of different products, but you can get away with just the veg, flowering, and pk+ nutes. I used Canna Terra Vega 3-1-4 (for veg) , Canna Terra Flores 2-2-4 (bloom), but my pk+ (0-9-10) was from Plagron, and I had some problems with it... I really should have gotten the Canna pk+ and that would have fixed my problems.

With Fox Farms you can get away with the Grow Big, Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom... at least that has been said->http://boards.cannabis.com/organic-growing/169385-fox-farm-nutes.html



But now I'm a little confused (and quite :stoned:), but what is up with the sterilized soil? I mean, is it like potting soil, or is it like coco? Because the nutes will be different depending on this. I noticed you had coco nutes, so maybe the guy at the store did this for a reason?? Anyways I'm rambling, maybe someone can enlighten me here :)

Yeah i know the leaves your talking about i will fill it up to there.

To the soil issue again, this whole thing started with a big bag of the train and bought the soil and the guy said it was what i needed and start feed after one week to be honest it was all very :rasta: at the time. its developing nicely there is two of them and there both pretty much the same! :D

Hey bigleague, thanks i will put photos up every 3 days or so, im on sick leave from work so have all the time in the world!

Just to say thanks to finn aswell, i didnt get my fan yet but im running hps and have opened a window in my room so fresh air is vented in and i've got my temp to between 22.5c and 23.5 c and humidity at 45% to 55%.

oh i have one question before i go. im looking at investing in a grow tent for my flowering cycle so i can have a room for growing and one for flowering to keep my stash steady, would anyone have any ideas what tent would be best for 4 pants at a go in flower?

Size really depends on your lights (how much area they can cover) and how big you want to grow the plants, (how big the containers are). I'd say get a 5gal container, and measure it to see how much space 4 of them would take up. Maybe you plan on finishing in 3 or 4 gal containers, but at least this way you have the extra room if you need it. You can mount your oscillating above the canopy so it doesn't take up floor space.

I'll be following along... I'd like to grow around 4-5 plants next time around :jointsmile:

Finn a life saver i was just about to go online to buy one when i decided to check if anyone had given their time to help me in my crusade for free smoke, thankfully you did!!

Was going to finish in 4 gallon containers with a 250watt hps on them! I will need to sort out my ventilation system before if i'm moving to a tent ideas for a one with my light cause im reading alot about it and most of the time things arent sticking with me :bong:!

if i get the tent i there will 2 more K-train seeds to be going in.

Just goes to show, patience and diligence now saves a lot of money and headaches in the future. I too was in a hurry to start, and had to learn some things along the way. Now I want to buy new stuff...

If you were to invest in one thing, I'd make it ventilation. Look into a fan that has multiple speed settings, and strong enough to vent your growroom and cool the cooltube - the other investment... search for DIY cooltube on google and you can make one for half the price or so.

Look at high times even their new article just posted this month states that the ufo really is close to equivalent to 400w hps. Ufo may take a little longer to finish but it is still a stronger light then the 250w hps. I grow under a Ufo and have been nothing but happy with the results. The myth that Led's dont grow weed has been busted even more now by a major publication lay it to rest. High Times > Grow Articles (http://hightimes.com/tags/grow_articles) check out the article. it says they are basically on par now with a possible 5% difference in yield under the hps but in other cases it actually produced even to a little more. the only noted difference i would say really is your finishing time it can add i would say up to 2.5 weeks. I think stealth/whiskey would agree.

I digress sorry for the rant on your thread.

Just please do your research on how the led's perform before you say that a measly 250w hps will make them grow faster than the ufo especially in early veg when hps tends to make plants stretch. (not meaning to knock you bigtops just get tired of the led don't grow well rhetoric) no hard feeling wanted any where :hippy:

No hard feelings, but I never said UFO's didn't grow well either. Good of you to drop some info, but please don't bash my advice- especially which I never even gave :jointsmile:

After looking at so many LED grows I am still a little skeptical (at least of a 90 watt UFO being comparable to a 400w hps). Figured since he had the 250w he could use it... it will definitely speed up his veg and flowering if used in combination with the led's (as long as the temps are in range), and the stretch is not really a big deal. Many people go through grows with just an HPS.

This is just my personal view, that a UFO and hps combination would be much better than just the UFO alone. I don't like the idea of adding more time to flowering and vegging... 2.5 weeks extra of flowering and maybe 1.5 weeks of veg extra? I would be harvesting one time less per year, and the savings from the electricity bill would not be worth it for me. Just my :twocents:

I'm not too keen on High Times when it comes to products either :wtf:

The article was well worth the weed, its my first grow so i got the 250 before a friend gave me the ufo, i am going to go with you ufo grow as it will save me money which is well needed :jointsmile:. i think i just needed my arm twisted. i have a steady temp with it I'll post more photos on Thursday.

All rants are welcome cause the more knowledge i pick up the better my :jointsmile:

didnt realize you were saying to add it more offten. seems like a lot of heat to add though. And i haven't noticed any delay on time in veg but if you are only using a first gen UFO not the tri band you might. I use an all blue ufo for veg and have noticed it being much better than using cfl's for it + much cooler. and 2.5 weeks would be max longer i would say some strains seem to finish right on time (according to other growers) i need to update my grow but im about 11 weeks into flower and am about ready (maybe 5 more days) with an unknown bag seed that seemed to be heavily indica.

Bigtops never ment to bash your advice i misread what you wrote. I have enjoyed your grows i follow them. the last train wreck one you had was amazing.:thumbsup: And thanks much for info on tent was kinda thinking about getting one now i know better.

Hope your grow works out well. jimmy welcome to the pink side :stoned: Even with going with the ufo you want to think about ventilation (mostly for smell controll though) does not need to be as big as if you were going hps.

I know i need to get a carbon filter in there for odours there not starting to smell yet! Quater boy how long was you veg cycle with the ufo?

My first set I veged under a ufo like yours and i vegged for only 3 weeks under it before i flowered(trying to get feet wet) Now i have vegged 4 plants under an All blue UFO and they seem to grow a little faster but not that significant i would just wait until the plants are about 1/2 the size you want or so then flower them. i would leave them in veg from seed at least 4 weeks probably more like 6 for some decent size plants. the main thing is where i live Heat is a big problem when its 115 out side and your AC is just pushing to keep 79 or 80 degrees hps is almost not do able and cost so much just to keep your a/c where your plants can live. Check my log lots of pics on it. The other thing most notice with led's is you want to get all your buds to the top because led's have a little harder time penetrating. so fiming or topping maybe lst is recommended screen might work well (i topped one with my first grow much happier with topped plant than one i let grow wild).

Thankfully i live in a place where my room temp is like 20 to 21 and never above really unless heat wave! I was looking a some side LED lamps to give my lower leeaves the light they need!

Well the last few days have been filled with reading and trying to find out the best ways to get my grow better, thanks for the help and input again.

Right so im running the 250 watt from 6 in the morning 4 and then the ufo is on from 4 till 12 (trying to get the best of both worlds).

The plant that is 22days old now is still going strong new leave keep coming on and its developing nicely (i think)? heres some pics

If you have any ideas or suggestions all are welcome. The one question i do have is when should i transplant to my 4 gallon pot? and how long do you reckon i should give the older plant before i flower it?

What are you using for nutes? Its probably needing some nitro to get growing again. and your right might need a transplant soon as far as flower thats still pretty small how much room you got to grow is the question and what do you want yield to be. id probably wait at least 6 more inches to have a 1/2 way decent size plant. and when you transplant get some pearllite in that soil.

Ok hello first of all sorry i havent been on in so long had a little problem with the internet company ( i didnt pay my bills dame i hate being broke) anyway thats all sorted now.

So i had a bit of bad news one of the plants died i dont know why i think it just didnt take to the soil well:mad:

But on the brighter side of things the other one took off pretty well, shes taking off and has grown alot i had to top her 2 weeks ago but she took to it well and has been in a 12hr cycle for 7 days now. i have been running the 250 watt light only, i have a fan system on the way with a carbon filter, have been feeding full nutes and i trans planted her into a 4 gallon pot and added pertitile and more soil.

I have a fan kit coming tomorrow with a carbon filter so will have pics of that 2moro.

Here are the photos i might need to move her to a bigger room she is getting a little cramped in the closet.

She is on the first day of her second week of a 12hr light cycle so she has been in it for a week. yeah i was considering on going buying a grow tent today ive been looking around and reading up on materials and all (thanks again for the advice on the material inside the tent). but it all really depends what happens.

Yeah i have air feed in on top and when light is i open the closet door cause there is no one in my house! Quick question if you dont mind, Do i need to do anything apart from change light cycle to get into flower? also soes she look to be in good health?

She looking healthy man...alls you need to do is cut your lights 12/12 for 8-10 weeks:thumbsup: remember you plant will double in size and height during flower(depending on the strain it could tripple or be less than double)

so if you start 12/12 at 16 inches youll end up with a 32 inch plant give or take a couple inches

Also get some Flowering fert ESU Green Leaves Bloom Juice 1 quart (http://www.hydroasis.com/hy/productdetail.aspx?id=310&product=esu-green-leaves-bloom-juice-1-quart) 1 cap full or 1/2 a oz per gallon of water

Ok some news:jointsmile:
my friend is moving and he is getting rid of his old grow gear one item which is a mylar sliver lined one which will fit snuggly into my closet with a little bit of alterations he said i can have it for 50 its 90cm, 50cm, 160cm is this a fair price?

Also i know the lack of space is concerning but i wont be letting my plants get as big again? any ideas or input would be great. he said i can have it by tuesday?

So here she is on day 14 of flowering, i did a little bit of pruning to let more airflow around the plant. Shes seems to be doing well no defects or signs of damage as far as i can see! I also have 2 clones going from her now which are in a smaller grow room under the 90watt led light to get em going! So hopefully by the time she is finished ill have 2 more to put into flower if i'm lucky!:jointsmile:

I only have pictures of the one lady in flower unfortunately i will try get ones of the clones soon! The tent will be here 2moro with a bit of luck depends when my friend is going to drop around! might be a while since he's still sampling!

The tent came today and i have set it up and everything, the only problem is temps are all over the place again. The Fan with the carbon filter isnt enough, i have a bigger fan on the way for my fresh air in take. but short term i need to find a way to get temps down before that and get fresh air in? does anyone have any ideas??? Please???

ordering a pyrex bake a round tube off ebay for 20 and make your own air cooled light...all you would need is about 3 feet of 4' duct and a 4' duct fan, and a bit of effort. this will lower your temps and allow you to place your plants closer for better growth...:thumbsup:

total cost..20 euros/45 dollars...

hey bluntpasser thanks for the advice i took it i was working in a town where there was a grow shop which was better than the one i live near, so i bought one.

Blew berry im just using hps cause she has gotten so big it wasnt giving enough light! but its not going to waist i'll be vegging the start if my next grow with which ill be starting in about 3 weeks or so.

So i hooked up the cool tube with the carbon filter and 4 inch fan. and i have the five inch supplying fresh air i havent seen the results as i changed it over just as the light cycle was ending.

when changing the room around i dropped the fan and split the stem where i topped her, i cable tied it back together it wasnt a bad one so hopefully she'll be all good!

good stuff, trainwreck is a favorite around these parts. is that greenhouse trainwreck? our trainwrecks are quite different looking.

just for the future a 4 week flush is kind of excessive, you can still get a smooth burn with less flush and yield more by feeding it through the heavy flowering time. but i know some prefer the long flush so if thats what you're goin for then its all good! enjoy the smoke its killer!

greenatik train wreck is also a favourite out my way aswell have, yes there green house seeds fem. i know the 4 week flush is over bored but hey if it doesnt work out how i like i can change it up for the next time, have another train in my next grow. i cant wait to enjoy the smoke thanks.

I agree with greenatik...i have tried all different senerios and have found that a flush given twice, eight days apart starting 16 days before harvest (just over two weeks) work fantastic! Removes all trace nutes left over in your soil and not too early that you will miss out on the two most important weeks prior. Weeks that should be spent pounding them with some food to bulk up and frost out.
