I will be growing one to two plants under a 250w HPS and a few CFL's in a cabinet fully lined with mylar and was wondering if a reflector would really help that much ? I ask because the HPS is in a home made cooltube and is about 12 inches at most from the top of the cabinet. I know it wouldn't be that hard to add a reflector but I'd rather not buy one unless it's really necessary. I guess my big question is how much light will I potentially lose from not having a reflector considering my current setup?

If you've got the whole cabinet lined with mylar you should be good. A reflector won't really help much.

you may want to hang the cooltube vertically with the plants around it. I just did this with a 1000w hps. It really helps with the temps pulling cooler air from low thru the cooltube and exhausting it out of the room high. my temps dropped 6 degrees just from doing this, from 81 to 75
