I'm looking to replace my hps system with a much less hot cfl system. What "kelvin" amount is best for veg/flower stage? I've been searching for awhile but I don't see anyone specify which spectrum is best. I know that this is an important factor so if you have any information I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hps puts out less heat.
Do the math.
400 watt hps = 50,000 - 55,000 lumens depending on the quality of the bulb.
400 watts of CFL's = 27,000 - 30,000 lumens also depending on the quality of the bulbs.
In this case, energy is transferred into 1 of 2 things; heat and light.
If the 400 watts of CFL's aren't putting out as much light as a 400 watt hps than obviously the energy is making more heat. It's just easier to deal with because of more surface area to cool.
Instead of a CPU processor getting a fan blown on it..., it's got a energy conductive heat sink on it to make a much larger surface area to cool.
Man bong hits, hope I helped.

To add to everything....
As of late, it is said that in veg of course they like 6500K, but supposedly they also like some of the other spectrum too (2700k). So, some people put in a mix of the lights in about 15%-30% between vegging and flowering. Meaning during veg, if you have 10 lights then 8 would be 6500K and 2 would be 2700K. An in flower vice-versa. You don't necessarily have to go with that percentile, you can add one or two more, or just put in one. It's all up to you really. I still use the all 6500K for veg and 2700K for flower.
Either way, Good Luck and Happy Growing!

All vegetative and growth stages: 5500K
Flowering: 2700K
Grow with Hortilux Bulbs from beginning to end and never worry about the Kelvin again.
