Douchebag of the Week: Tim Pawlenty
Saturday, 23 May 2009 13:28

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty earns this distinction for vetoing the state's medical-marijuana bill on May 22. Despite the bill being significantly watered down, the two-term, born-again Republican refused to sign it into law.
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty says he's "sympathetic to those dealing with end-of-life illnesses," but believes marijuana poses "serious public safety and health risks," and that legalizing it, even as a medicine, "could serve to compound these problems."

On Apr. 29, the Minnesota Senate voted 36-28 in favor of SF-97 that allowed patients or caregivers to grow 12 plants and possess 2.5 ounces. On May 18, however, the House voted 70-64 for a more restrictive bill that did not allow patients to grow and was for the terminally ill only. The state would have been responsible to create dispensaries.

Pawlenty, who was barely reelected in 2006, set a single-year record for vetoes in 2008. If he decides to run for a third term in 2010, stoners and patients should make sure Pawlenty is ousted.

im not voting for him, he says hes worried about too many people using marijuana if it were allowed medically here. just gives me more motivation to distribute more and more the wrong way until the government decides its time they start to collect the billions of dollars pot dealers generate

Minnesota Governor Thinks Terminally Ill Medical Marijuana Patients Should be Arrested

Last week Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) vetoed a medical marijuana bill that would have protected terminally ill patients - despite the bill passing the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives

The bill was watered down to help ease concerns that the governor had about the bill. Ultimately, the House decided to narrow it down to only protect those that are terminally ill from being arrested for using marijuana to relieve pain and suffering.

Astonishingly, Pawlenty didn't think that even terminally ill Minnesota citizens should be spared from prosecution for using marijuana. :(

not only should folks in minnesota NOT vote for pawlenty next time...

WE ALL should vote ONLY for anti-prohibitionists!!!

cannabis and MMJ have been in the news plenty.

it will not be out of the norm that all candidates will be asked where they stand on prohibition of cannabis/hemp/MMJ.

if they are ignorant... educate them with facts.
if they 'see the light'... consider them for your vote.
if they remain, or become a prohibitionist... eliminate them from your consideration.

i pledge to ONLY vote for anti-prohibitionists, AT ANY LEVEL!!! of public office.

if there is no candidate worthy of my vote, i will seek out a candidate that is. IF there is NO candidate worthy of my vote, i will write in Jack Herer.

President Obama is a big disappointment regarding this subject. i understand that he didn't want to expend much (if any) political capital on this subject while dealing with economic woes, wars, and transition into office, but his mocking of the subject in his town hall meeting ticked me off.

the honeymoon is OVER. if cannabis/hemp are NOT removed from schedule 1 by the time Obama's re-election campaign begins, he will NOT get my vote.

i feel it is time for a third party to join the mix.

i believe that IF all anti-prohibitionists, MMJ proponents, and lovers of the recreational aspect of the herb BANDED together, as a POWERFUL voting block, we CAN influence the future of LEGAL cannabis.

i think in today's day and age, questions to candidates regarding their views on prohibition of cannabis/MMJ/hemp will no longer be considered coming out of the 'fringe' of society.

that 'fringe' asking these questions are no longer JUST longhaired, tie-dyed stoners yelling questions from the back of the crowd.

they are judges, former and present law enforcement, DOCTORS, scientists, congresspersons, Nobel laureates, and people with suits and haircuts.

oh... btw...

i am COMPLETELY weaned off of Kellogg's Sugar Pops. the withdrawals lasted for months, but i am kellogg-free, thanks to generic cocoa crispies.
