GH3 and additives nutes?

Hi everyone, I'm looking into experienting hydroponic..i've been reading and watching video about it...im still a lil' confused about mixing and adding additives nutes. I'm looking to start with General Hydroponics 3part and also would like to get some additives nutes or booster to boost up the speed and yield..what is your takes on the additives nutes for vegetative stage and the flowering stage that go along well with the GH3. thanks!

The fewer parts to the grow the less you have to go wrong. Just start with the 3 part GH and calmag plus if you need it. A PH meter is what you need more than additives. Once you get a couple grows tuned in then you can add things.

I do have ph meter just dont have the EC meter yet. i really like to experiment more than just basic hydro. anywase, i got my eyes on the advance nutrient BIG BUD and the OVER DRIVE for the flowering stage. I'm just not sure if that will work or make any different since it is from two differnt manufacture...

i read on latewood's legacy: GH3 sticky thread..he mentioned that..he topoff with calmag+ or liquid karma in between nutes change..what does he mean by topoff?

Topping off is when you add to your nutrient reservoir between full changes. I would suggest if your just starting in hydro to do an easy version of latewoods recipe.

veg: 8ml-8ml-8ml per gallon and 5ml per gallon of liquid karma.

bloom:16ml-8ml-24ml

This will get you amazing results, I'm speaking from experience.

thanks pete. that clear up a lil on "toping off" but still confused a bit..according what latewood was saying, he changed nutes every week..let say every sunday..so, on sunday he would add liquid karma into the reserivor. right? if so how long does it take before he change the nutes in the reservor for the following flowering week...since he said he topping off between nutes change...i guess im confused with "between" nutes change...sorry i'm just trying to get the info. right before i get my hand on it...thanks

You need budblood the first week of flower and then the additive bigbud for the rest of flower.

When you run a rez of any size your plants drink water. As they do your nutes PPM will rise. You add back to the rez Ph'ed water to keep it from getting too strong and burning your plants. If you have a 5 gallon rez and over a weeks time your plants drink 5 gallons you are ready to change the rez. You would of replaced the 5 gallons topping off each day.

I finally understand it now about toppingoff :thumbsup: just one more question about it...let say i have 5g rez. the nxt day the plants drink 1g water out of it so that left me with 4g in the rez..so i would have to add 1g in the rez to make it 5g in the rez, correct? if i were to topoff calmag+ 5ml per gallon..do i add 5ml to the 1g that im going to add in or 20ml to the 4g in the remaining rez or perhap 25ml to the total 5g in the rez since i am going to add that 1g in the rez? thanks

You only use calmag plus if you are using RO water, which i don't recommend. Your topping off because the plants have used the water and whats left in your rez is a higher PPM than what you originally started with, so to bring it down you add just plain ph correct water.

if you didnt add 5ml/g when you FIRST filled the reservoir, then you did something wrong. when topping off 1 gallon, you should only add 5ml of calmag+. and if my memory serves me right, latewood only topped off with calmag+ every OTHER day, even though he would be topping off with water every single day.

he uses CaMg in the top off water all week long , alternating with Liquid Karma the next week
this is what I have been useing, it seems to be working
I don't use any other additives, with the exception of Bushmaster for a day at the beginning of flower

correct, CaMg only in the top off water, to avoid the stretch associated with the 2%N.
I like diamond nectar better than LK, cause it doesn't stain the roots
