It's been more than ten years since I last had a grow, but it's not rocket science. I basically put together the same set up I used then, which is an ebb and flow system. For the medium I use just straight Hydroton and water the plants about 4-5 times during the 12 hour flowering stage. I've used both Adv. Nutrients (Connoisseur for the first grow) and their (Sensi Bloom for the second)
I run a 1000w HPS and have good air flow, humidity, and temps around 80f.
I change the nutes every two weeks, and run them around 1400ppm at the peak. Whenever I refill the reservoir, I check the nutes an ph first and add or adjust accordingly. They don't appear to be burning from over fertilizing as I have this 1000w light in a 4'x3' room on just six plants, so the light they receive is massive. They are kept far enough away and show no heat stress. In fact they grow really well until the last half or third of the flowering stage, and this is where I start getting issues. It seems to start near the top of the plant on the older leaves first. I get some necrosis on the shade leaves it then starts to move to some of the newer growth, (I have three strains so it effects them differently), and by the end the leaves start to get dry and brittle and the buds look good, but the never fill in and are way too fluffy and at this point there is nothing that can be done. One of the strains the leaves turn purple, but the general problem is the buds not filling out.
Back in the day I used to grow a NL#5 x SK#1 strain and would get main cola's as big as a Pringles can or bigger and tight as shit. I also notice on this last grow that the stems on the shade leaves and even some of the branches were real spongey. The only thing I can think of is maybe I'm running my Ph to low, that's the one thing I could not remember what I used to keep it at back in the day. Both of the last two grows have been in the 5.6-5.8 and I suspect that is the problem and unless you bless me with your wisdom on this subject I'm going to run it in the 6.0-6.4 range the next time around. I can't think of what else is giving me this f'ing problem.
The seeds were all legit from Amsterdam (White Rhino, Matanuska Mint and an unknown) so I know the clones I received were not from random sack seeds. I should be able to answer any other questions if you need more info to make a diagnosis.
Thanks in advance for your help.
