I would like to keep my costs low, and so if possible I would like to buy an HPS lightbulb, without buying the whole fixture. Is it alright to just stick it in a regular light fixture like a lamp or something?

That would be a negative. Every HPS bulb you buy will say on the box what kind of fixture it needs. I've heard of a mogul base you could get for it, but I don't know much more than that:wtf: So I just stick to CFLs until I get more mulah and do more research on it.

You have to have the ballast in order for a HPS or MH light to work. There are kits you can buy to build your own system. They're pretty easy to put together.

and even if you tried you'd find that the HPS wouldn't fit. It's like fatter and stuff.

HPS lamp fittings are ceramic, something to do with the heat that a HPS lamps give off.:hippy:
