hey this is my first post here and i'm new to this hydroponic growing. My question is this......What to do when the roots of my plants get so long that they reach the nutrient reservoir? is it ok to let them dip in the water or should i cut them? is it safe to cut the roots? HELP!

Read, read, read and when your eyes bleed read some more.

That is the whole point of hydro. Those roots suck up the water for good health. You should have a mass of roots hanging in your water nutrient mix with an airstone too. Check out a bunch of grow logs and see what others look like.
