View Full Version : My FIRST SCROG grow!! Purple Punch! Grapefruit Diesel!

I have decided to start another grow with 2 more clones I purchased at the store.

Grapefruit Diesel and Purple Punch, both very potent Indica strains. I thought they would be better suited for my grow area and for the screen. I think in a smaller grow it looks more effiecient to grow bushes!

Anyway, here they are in all their glory sharing some space with my other 2 under lots of CFLs.

The grow started on 4-10-09.

Not sure if I now have room for the screen on these guys. Thinking of heavy LST on all of them and twimming/top...maybe a rose bush type cage? what do you guys think?

Pinch and bend technique? Seems kind of stressful.

Heres one of my beginning lst pictures. That was on the 20th. I'll upload another when the lights are on in the morning. I'd like to see how either plant recovers from the techniques. That's if you don't mind, that is. :hippy:

filo, you've got quite the collection of clones, and they all look awesome! I like the LST also, and yours appear to be doing quite well with it. Looks like this isn't your first rodeo, eh?

I'm lookin' forward to seeing these ladies grow and bloom. Continued good luck and success!

Thank you guys for the kind comments. Please dont add your plant pictures in my grow log, it kind of crowds the thread :) ty.--(yours is looking good btw!)

Here are some updated pictures of my babies. I replanted them a couple days ago and they are taking well to the LSTing. Except for "blue dream". This is a heavy sativa and is not liking the topping os LSTing too well. I think I may leave it be...

Grape punch is my favorite so far for ease or training, it loves being prunes, fimmed, topped, and comes back for more!! Casey Jones also is VERY strong, and I am sure will make some big yields...

Also just switched to Eleanors VF-11 plant food. I think this will keep me from burning the plants lol.

Here they are!

p.s.

For those who think they are seeing things, yes I did plant them at an angle!:stoned:

interesting idea about planting them on an angle... i bet that makes the LST a bit easier eh?

some updates.

The canopy on all the plants is starting to form nicely from all the LSTing, and topping i have done to the plants.

Planting them sideways helps me LST them and build a bushier plant, here are the results one week after the replant...

Notice how firm and dense the bush is! Like a good 70s flick! :rastasmoke:

Blue Dream is REALLY starting to worry me... it is harder to train, and finicky as hell. Also is showing heavy sativa traits, it is long and lanky, and starting to take over the area! Huge leafs!

Plants kept pulling up...they are bushing nicely, but gotta remember the goal is to keep em low and build a nice canopy in my limited grow area. HEAVY LSTing was done today. Tie downs with hemp rope :rastasmoke:

Another update!

For those who want to build a strong stock, LSTing is a must!! The stock on casey jones is as thick as my thumb!!--at that short of height I am surprised!

They also are joined by some friends... is this known as a perpetual grow now?

oh and they would have been even bushier but I trim away dead fan leaves, and took some cuttings...

Sweet bunch of plants you have there, filo. Alright, I've gotta get this outta the way - 1/2 the reason I became interested in your grow was your avatar - I get lost staring into those big eyes! But, after lookin' at all of your fine green lady friends, well I'm now a return subscriber.

Dang good work on all that LST'ing - they do love it, don't they? And, I feel your pain in continuing to add plants to your mix. I've got 3 separate batches going right now; I don't think I'm going to add any more though.

Continued good luck to you!

filo, all of your plants are beauties! Did I miss a harvest at some point? I saw those cut stalks in the background of a few of the pics. That Casey Jones for some reason stands out to me.

Fine update, my friend!

filo6942
05-13-2009, 09:25 PM
You have a good eye. The Casey Jones is my favorite so far. It is proving VERY hardy, HUGE stalk for its height, and takes well to topping/fim/LST. It drinks water like mad too!

I did harvest my Purple Kush and Cheese early because I ran out of meds. It was a test grow to get a feel for the space I have to work with.

05-24-2009, 11:51 AM
I would love to see the cab/box or whatever you are using as a space. From clone to stone how big total are your plants when finished? They look so damn healthy... oh and do you feel less attachment to them when you grow from clone vs seed?

filo6942
05-24-2009, 05:45 PM
Ok, here is the latest update. Plants are very stressed so the smaller ones really show it. I moved them into my closet and build shelves so I can have multiple decks for growth. The shelves are removable and can move up or down, but for now I only need one deck running, so that is what I have set up. :stoned:

Note how I set my plants to make a nice canopy, planting the clones sideways, and tying them down really helps with accomplishing this IMO.:stoned:

I also purchased another new friend. "Master Sativa" it looks very different than all the others, see if you can spot her out.:stoned:

Also I put Grapefruit diesel into flowering on 5-20-09:stoned:

Will put Blue Dream into flowering on 5-30-09:stoned:

Grape punch looks really thin because I took a lot of cuttings from her this past week.:stoned::stoned::stoned:

Uhm what else... oh yeah, I have never grown from seed, but I am attached to all my babies, and will attempt to revegg them all.:rasta::rasta:

If I had known that I would have been given the closet from my girlfriend, (thanks hun!!) I would have not lst the plants, but it was fun doing it, and the plants look very very strong around the main stem area! :stoned:

Wow!

I faintly remember a corner of a shelf of sorts with a couple lamps in it, 2 plants maybe?

Cannacom is first hand watching your OP evolve. Keep it up.:stoned:

Hot damn. CFL's in large quantities can end up putting out more heat than an HID. Your lumen per watt ratio is also going downhill. You should invest in a 250 hps, a little cage fan, and punch a hole in the ceiling to exhaust the hot air into the attic. And place a couple extra CFL's for strategic yielding purposes.

htgsupply.com
plantlightinghydroponics.com

both are loaded with good deals, shitty deals, and some pretty neat shit.

besafe, beFree:jointsmile:

filo6942
05-25-2009, 03:57 PM
I know the ratio is going down, but its nice buying bulbs at only 92 cents each! I also have 7500 lumens per sq ft! And I have full spectrum ( so they say) because I have both the red type of cfl and the blue type in there. 333 watts of cfl right now. :stoned:

The next lights I add will most likely be led because i think the plants would flourish under all these cfls and Led!:stoned:

I have an easy time controlling the heat, i put a box fan pointing at the lights and it cools the cfls enough that they are not hot to the touch, just slightly warm. This helps keep the room temp under 80 degrees even on warm days. leaving the door ajar helps too :stoned:

ok so I decided I need more lights for flowering. Here is what yall missed!

There plants went into 12-12 flower lighting on the following dates:

grapefruit diesel 5-20

bluedream 5-30

grape punch 6-10

blue moon rocks 6-10

casey jones 6-13

blue cheese 6-13

They are all flowering under 400watt HPS!!!!! YEY!! FTW! :stoned::stoned:

Here are news pics to update yall...

Grapefruit diesel is left bottom, top left is blue moon rocks, middle towards the back wall is blue cheese, top right is grape punch, bottom right is blue dream--- a true monster.

Joefarmer
06-16-2009, 12:46 AM
Are u having any heat issues with the HID?

filo6942
06-16-2009, 01:28 AM
I still want to add an LED. This HPS is in another closet for the flowering ladies. (seperate from the veg/floros.

I have a 20$ walmart circulating fan in there blasting right on the light. This keeps the light housing on the top just slightly warm to the touch.

The ballast is on the top of the closet above where you would hang your clothes. This seems to make more heat than the lamp itself, but being that the closet is so tall, it has not caused problems with heat. Plus I run the light at 9pm to 9am. Cold hours.

Oh and I also leave the door half open on the closet when the light is on. :rastasmoke:

I swear that grape punch of yours looks JUST LIKE it could have come from a few of my plants. I sure hope I got some genetics from that family. That was some NICE weed the seeds came from. If it's a similar strain, you will be in for a treat. I'm curious, is it intended to be a purple strain? The tag says Grape Punch, but I don't know anything about it.

filo6942
06-16-2009, 07:33 PM
grape punch info from the breeder himself:

"Grape Punch is very different with a very grape taste and the potency is up there in the over 23% thc range like Lifesaver and Sour Bubble."

this is what it should look like when finished.

looking great so far.. but.... (i hope i'm wrong) is that spider mite damage i see on the leaves of the grapefruit? those white spots looks like it but the pic is blurry so i definitely could be mistaken

filo6942

Not spider mite damage. I was not adding calmagplus. Its a magnesium deficiency.

Sorry for not updating more, not sure if anyone was watching. Grapefruit diesel is almost done. What do you guys think a week left? two?

Grapefruit diesel took at least 2 weeks into flower to show buds. Some strains just take longer. I also have noted I need to tie these girls up!! They are falling over on themselves!! Casey Jones is the largest, along with Bluedream.

I have some nute burn and some slight heat burn from the lights. But nothing major so far. Here are some updates...

not saying you're wrong about it being a magnesium deficiency. but what are you growing in and why would you need to add calmag? are you running distilled/osmosis? i've never had spotting like that with mag deficiency and I run into it all the time in coco with osmosis...

For what it's worth, I have had the spots show up with a mag deficiency. The discoloring of the leaf edges shows up first, then, as much as a week later, the spots show up about the same time as the discolored edges take on a rust color.

good to know, I guess i've never seen it at a harsher stage. kind of unusual though to have to be adding calmag unless using r/o or distilled water or a nute with insufficient micros. hope to see your plants back on track filo

Well it looks like alot of you do not know to much about growing. Yes for a limited closet space that is ok. I would put up a 600 watt if I were you. And buy some plasticblack grow bags to hold your plants in. The less you have to repot the better! And be cool about cutting your plants at a young age! Any time you cut a plant you take a risk of exposing it to bugs. Think of when a tree gets cut down all the sap brings bugs. Its about the same thing even indoors! And I would wait at least two weeks before you start putting on any newts. And you have to buy a water filter its called asmall boy they run about 100 but its orth it. You will not have to mess with ph at all!
