So there I was sitting in my dorm room at Montana State University and decided I would get a little light on the subject, so I went to plug my lava lamp in and when I went to do this the plug got pushed back in the wall. So I thought that I would be able to pop it back out without worrying about getting shocked or anything like that, and BOY was I wrong! haha. I took a small screwdriver and very carefully tried to pry the outlet back out of the hole and all of a sudden hit a live wire, and damn..i got the living shit shocked out of me, SPARKS FLEW, and almost all the power in the entire building went out! I was having panic attacks and grabbed a flashlight to try and get it fixed before someone came looking for me, so as I'm using my bare hands to try and get the plug out, they threw the breaker on again and it shocked me again. Then I was like ..FUCK It..and put the face plate back on and all of a sudden there is a knock at my door, and after I opened it they asked me.."ahh..what are you doing to the power?" haha. So I told them what happend, and told them to flip the breaker off again so I could fix the problem, and after I got everything put back together I had no more problems :) The funny thing is, this is the one day I decide not to smoke up..hahaha..Next time I'll have to bring my insulated screw driver it I plan on playing with the power again ;)

um so i dont know if you ever learned this when you were a kid or anything but, dont stick shit into a live socket@!!!! damn dude thats fucking dumb, but hey at least you're ok!

on a side note, I have this light thats plugged into the same circuit as my guitar amp and we have really old shitty wiring. Well, sometimes i'll turn on the light so i can read my music while my other arm his holding onto my guitar. Doing that will complete the circuit and i end up getting the shit shocked out of me. I've done this a few times just without thinking, Its not very strong but its a pretty good jolt that will make my arm tingle for a few minutes. I gotta remember to move that lamp lol.

When I was ten I tried to get my toast out of the toaster with a metal butter knife while it was still plugged in, ive never had a repeat accident involving toasters

It's not the amplifier.
The amp probably has a three prong plug.
It will be safe when plugged into a properly wired grounded outlet.

The lamp probably does not have a grounding pin on it's plug. Most don't
My advice is to fix the lamp, or throw it out.
One of it's wires is shorted to the lamp housing.
If that lamp housing is hot, touching it and anything grounded, (guitar amp, sink faucet, radiator, stove, wired telephone, etc.) can kill you!
Sure, you can reverse the lamp plug in it's socket and not get shocked, but it's not worth the risk.

Next time it gets unplugged, re-plugging is a 50 50 risk.

good story man....im an electrician in the Navy, i was just over in iraq dealing with army dudes that are just like you ...fucking around with shit and getting zapped.

no big deal though, i got zapped numerous times on 240/50 hertz...not too bad. 400 volts though, that will let you know you're alive. yowza.

also for future electrical reference, you're ok touching a hot, as long as you're insulated and not grounded. what that means is, if you touch the hot wire, touch it with a pair of pliers and don't touch any of the metal around it with the pliers or your other hand.

i worked on hot stuff a gazillion times, you just have to be careful.

I was working/building in my grampa's shop, and I got stuck to a hanging wall socket. My grampa hears my knees banging on the table comes in, grabs a 2x4, and Baby Ruth's me off of it.

I was like 8-10 secs long, but felt like 5minutes.

My hands/arms still get stuck in that position sometimes if they are in the right spot, for a split second.

Electrician probably wouldn't be the best thing for me either, I'm thinking maybe a porn star though haha. Gotta build my reputation up, wish me luck! haha jk. I'm the only guy that goes to school for horticulture and plan on using those skills to be a legit pot farmer..haha, legally though of course, maybe open a dispensary or work for the government when they realize how much money that would make them :P
