WHY?
For the price of that contraption you could get a 400w HID light that we all know works?

WHY? because my friend already has one of these. I do not have the money for a 400w HID which I would much prefer to have. Just curious if anyone knows anything about the happy light or has experience with one.

It would be near useless for growing.

I didn't think "why" in this scenario would illicit an offended response. Sorry to have disrupted your highly enlightening thread.
Maybe out of the hundred thousand or so members on here you will eventually get the answer you were hoping to hear. I'd love to spare you the wait, but I thought you were looking for someone to keep you from making a stupid acquisition.
Best of luck with the "Happy Light"

Yea D.P. is right, that light is not suited for our purpose.Maybe you should look into compact flouro's "C.F.L.".

I was not offended by your question of why, I merely stated that as a response to why. Right now I already am growing with CFLs (check my grow log) and was just wondering if perhaps anyone knew anything about this light. You say it is useless? I believe you but can you give me some details about why it wouldn't work. Spectrum? Lumens? whats wrong with it?

It features a 10,000 Lux daylight balanced light at 9 inches. Includes 2 daylight spectrum compact flourescent lamps.
Even with CFLs or floro tubes ...you have to keep the light bulb very close to the plants (2-4 inches). You want 6500k (kelvin) for vegging and 2700k for flowering and a minimun 5000 lumens per square foot of grow space.
The lens on it alone...makes it useless for anything, other than maybe clones.
...and at $189 ...it's is a ripoff.

Like I already stated, my friend already has one so price is not an issue. Maybe I will use it for cloning or something though. Maybe seed starting?

maybe....I use T-12 dual 48 inch floro tubes (6500K) shop lights the first three weeks... @ 1-2 inches above the plants. Cool White tubes won't burn seedlings. No stretching.

I have some purple grow light fluoro tubes that I used to start my seedling, so I would probably just use them again. As for when my plant gets bigger maybe I will try the happy light out but initially just get more CFLs. Thanks for the replies, Happy growing:jointsmile:
