hey guys, just got back from iraq today, well kuwait. i left iraq about a week ago for kuwait for warrior transition and the beginning of the de-mob process. got back to the US today, havent been here since september, its good to be back.
iraq sucks. its hot, cold, dusty, rainy, lot of rocks, lots of mortars, rocket attacks and random gunfire.

Holy crap man I remember your post before you left, its hard to think youve been in a war zone this whole time. If you dont mind can you tell us a bit more about it, a couple stories or anecdotes or something? It would be a rarity to hear army stories from a fellow toker and not from an all American boy that just wants to tell you how patriotic and bad ass he was
Good luck with civilian life, it might be pretty weird for a while:thumbsup:

nextline~ its going to take awhile to unwind from being over there. ive only been in the US a few hours, it hasnt really sunk in yet. i've been awake for about 48 hours ( i cant sleep on planes) and im a little out of it. its quiet here, no generators or helicopters, and it smells nice. lol its the little things.
fakeboobs, i know my friends are going to try to get me to smoke when i get back to my hometown, but i dunno, i hung up the smoking shoes awhile ago, but it might be nice to take a toke or two.

Wow, when you left in September, gas prices were outrageous but the economy was still trucking along. People were worried about excess gas costs taking money out of their pocket. Little did many know about the credit crisis that was going on.
Now, gas prices are reasonable but the economy has tanked, stock prices have been slammed, half the country's wealth just evaporated, and many people are looking at much smaller 401K statements.
What do you think about the commander in chief's new military rules about being openly gay and serving in the military?
How much American news did you get? Were you stationed at a base or what?

First of all, THANK YOU for your service to your country. Second, Welcome Back, it's good that you made it home. I'm sure you have memories..good and bad. Please remember OPSEC while sharing any stories with us. How long are you home? How many tours? I had a brief stint in the Guard until medical discharged me. Never deployed .Once again, welcome back from the Sandbox. God Bless You.:hippy:

being openly gay in the military is bad ju-ju. we had a guy that was obviously gay with us, he wasn't treated too well. it sucks that people can't be openly gay, but thats just the way it is. war is a shitty business, bad things happen to good people.
as far as american news, we had access to the 'stars and stripes' daily. but that was half military news and half US news. we all knew the economy was/is shaky, other than that though not much news really, not a whole lot of time to sit down and watch CNN. we knew damn well that the STEELERS won the super bowl!! woooo. that was a good day. granted i was watching it at three in the morning.

Welcome home, bro. Thank you and everyone who went over there and basically did the impossible. :s4:
I was on a flight next to a Marine a few years back who was coming home after serving with the first division that charged into Bahgdad. He was telling me about the dust storms, too. I guess the one they experinced right before going in was about a 100 years storm. He had some Saddam Hussain currency he brought back with him, I guess they set up base in the palaces there.

Welcome back! I'm glad you made it home safely. I imagine war isn't fun, but you probably have stories to entertain your grandchildren for years when your old and gray.
It's odd, but I imagine the dust storms were worse than getting shot at.
