Ok - I know there are a ton of threads that cover this but i think my q is a little different.
Im in question on when to harvest my plants - I already cut the tops but the rest of the plants are still there - everything Ive read or watched a video on says when to harvest by the trichomes. I have a microscope and look at the smoke I get from the dispensery and the trichs look frosty white - Now for the Q - does this frosty white happen on the plant while its growing, or does some of that happen in the drying/curing stage?
My trichs are kinda cloudy but not as much as the stuff ive bought - but there are also some that are kinda amberish - but not near brown - Im in question cuz I tried some that was dry enough to smoke and it was good but now holy crap wow like it looks like it would be - and tates kinda like nothing and doesnt really smell that great - kinda grassy and earthy at best - everything Ive read says curing will help out the taste and smell - but is it normal for this to happen? Ive uploaded some pics also and the strain is OG Sour Diesel - please help!!!
Thanks

From what I understand, yes it's normal for your bud to smell grassy before a long proper cure. Are you looking under a microscope?

Dam looks real good for first timer I usually go 40% amber to harvest but that is what I like I read from very good source 10% amber time to harvest due to quality changing more rapidly after that point. I trust this source so am pulling at 10%. Enjoy your smoke it looks tasty Curing helps alot and you will see change in final product.Peace

Another week or 2 that grassy smell will be a danky smell. Let it cure baby. 3-4 weeks is probably best imo.

the "grassy" or "green" smell is chlorophil -- it evaporates during curing allowing the flavor to come through.
peak window for harves with highest THC, as I understand, is when the trichomes are mostly cloudy with 5-20% amber.
the amber trichomes are dead or dying. the clear trichomes aren't quite "ripe" yet.
unless I have new bud building on the upper colas, I harvest at about 20% amber.
THC converts to CBN(or D can't remember now) and this is the chemical that helps give you body stone. it is also the chemical that has been found to reduce tumors in breast cancer and other cancers!
some plant strains produce more CBN than others.

Thanks for all your help - I just tried some from the first cut i did and its really good as far as the high. YES I do have a microscope and have been looking through it at the buds. The trichs are still not as frosty as the buds I have bought and am still wondering if this frostiness happens more in the drying and curing process ?

Probably just strain dependent.

I just vaped some of that OG SD not too long ago, maybe a week or two back, VERY distinct taste. The taste lingered in my cano bag for a few days afterwards. Good choice!

Agreed, great looking buds and I start to harvest any time they get to the amber stage. Its usually about a 1 week window before the THC will start to degrade.

Do you think the trichomes will turn more frosty during drying and curing?
Thanks for all your help and replies !!

Yes. As the bud's dry and cure you'll see the thrich's become more prominent.

Ok - after doing alot more reading on the forum here - Ive seen that mollases is used to help out with taste - I did not use mollases at all and I also am now thinking i over fertalized - I flushed with straight water 2 weeks before since i was using soil.
Do you think that if I over nuted and didnt use mollases that my end product will not taste like it should?
When I was manicuring the resin on my hands smelled like the dank I am looking for in the buds - any thoughts???
Thanks
Matt

Or....you quit being ignorant and listen to everyone else and CURE. For 3-4 weeks, weed doesn't dry and smell good overnight. It takes time just like wine and whiskey.
and tates kinda like nothing and doesnt really smell that great - kinda grassy and earthy at best - everything Ive read says curing will help out the taste and smell
You answered your own question in the original post. Get back to us in 3 weeks and let us know how it smells. Trust Me:wtf:

even the clear trichs will become more white as the curing process progresses but i like to go off ones in the middle of the plant cause sometimes the top ones turn amber from stresses
