Hi all

I have accidently knocked off a cola from my plant setting up the room so i dried it up and smoked it and i really enjoyed it, i don't think the rest of the plant is in its prime yet though (refer to link in sig for pics) but i really want to take the top cola's off as i was very satisfied with the smoke, and just allow the rest of the buds which have a fair bit of growing left to do keep growing for the approx 2 - 4 weeks left of flowering, can i just cut the top cola's off and keep it going on regular 12/12 without stressing it out to much? any help greatly appriciated.

peace :hippy: bio

I have done this-- take the top colas at 10-20% amber and let the rest flower for another week or two.

You can get two different types of herb -- a more cerebreal high and a more body stone from the longer-flowered buds.

I've cannibalized plants before when I needed medicine and the plant wasn't quite ready. Hate doing that, but at times it's necesary.

Ive never been successful at revegging a plant after flower, butt then you'd only take to top colas and let the others revert.

Enjoy.

Oh, and make note of what colors your trichs are when you harvest -- you might want to harvest this strain at this ripeness in the future. :rastasmoke:

thankyou! yeah that was the result i was looking for having a few different stages (effects couchlock or buzz) available to me  i havent been able to check the trichromes as i don't have a microscope yet, im worried if i do cut them now i will lose a whole bunch of cola size? cause i think there about half way through the fattening phase, but i really enjoyed the high so i don't want to miss this window

oh, and excellent idea about logging the harvest time i never think of things like that

Hey bio,

First, this is not a recommendation by any means.

On my last grow I picked the smallest buds to smoke, starting at about week 3 of flowering and continued to do so until it was finished. Not sure how badly the end yield was affected, but surprisingly no nanners and I was still happy with the end results. I wouldn't recommend it because it will stress the plant (low-yield, hermies, etc.), and I feel that cutting the plant in any way during flowering is a big no-no. But, drastic times called for drastic measures, and that's what happened to me. I've run out of bud again, and I have picked off a few of the tiny buds from below the canopy. I really hate to do this, but I figure that those tiny buds will not grow up to be anything significant in the end, so if I'm gonna smoke something, it's the little shit buds. They still get me nice and baked. Again, not recommended. Good luck and good times

for optimum growth, no, it's not recommended.

Yes, it will affect the further development of the rest of the plant... the plant is being wounded big time.

However, to get multiple harvest from one plant, yes, it is very possible.

I keep it to two harvests, top bud, and buttom bud.

I have a 20x jewelers loupe and the radioshack mini- microscope. i like the loupe better. easier for me to use.

both under 20, the radio shack mini is under 10.

Hi,

Well that's a nice looking cola to hold you over for a bit. If you still have 2-4 weeks of flowering left I'd think that there must still be a lot more fattening up for those buds to do and it looks like the calyxes have a ways to go in swelling up. I'll bet the ones you leave flowering for another month will double in size and get much more potent if you can leave them alone... Good luck!

When I get itchy and I'm out I've learned to go pick up a sack to hold me over so that I can leave my garden girls alone. It's SO much better when it's grown to full maturity that there's no comparison in the quality.

Happy Growing!

I did the two phase harvest as well. One issue is do you then treat with only water to flush say 10 days before first harvest, all the way through the second harvest....as I have definetly learned the value of well flushed versus not so well flushed ...in final product.

Here's a group of girls who where topped 1+ft, about 5 days ago.

Just about ready to go. By topping and allowing more time, lower buds get a chance to fatten up and mature in some full light.

Look close and you can see cut stalks.

We all have been there. No, I wouldn't recommend cutting top cola, but if it's an emergency pick the worst buds on the worst plant and go from there saving the best looking plants for later, larger harvest.
