Complete Cabinet Cfl Grow

Seeds: Regs Bagseed
Soil: Botanicare Cocogro
Nutes: FoxFarm Grow Big and Big Bloom
Light: 9 26 watt CFLs equaling roughly 900 regular watts
Ventilation: Intake Central Air Exaust 365 cfm inline fan
Odor Control: none atm
Closet/Cabinet: 34.5'x17.5'x71'
Vegetation: Started on 24/0 but soon moved to 18/6 light cycle

Ok. I didnt want to start a grow log too soon as it seems many people start and never finish.
March 3rd: Seeds were Germed. Germed about 15 all came out. Picked the best looking ones. 4 were planted.
Planted on the 6th into Miracle Grow 2 Month Feeding garbage soil. (i wish i took the advice of the forum and didnt use a pre mix, anyway). They were not proforming as well as i wanted in the first days so i took a trip to the local hydro shop and picked up some cocogro.
March 13th: Transpalnted into the Cocogro. Into 4' pots. Most are yellow from shock i am guessing.
March 29th: I started using FoxFarm Nuts at the 2 week point. Grow Big is all im using at the moment, but will start to add BigBloom very soon. All 4 are looking quite well with most having 5 fan leaves and starting to show their 7 fan leaves.

About 5 days ago i started to germ another batch of seeds, this time it was from some mids, Arizona. Planted them into the cocogro and they are looking good. About 2 days out of the soil now.

Sorry for not having pictures tonight, but i assure you tomorrow they will be up.

Its been 26 days since gem for the 4 bigger plants, and about 4 days for the ones in the cups. Some of the leaf tips are brown or yellow i think its from the stress of transplanted and using nuts too soon. I think i have it under control now though as the new growth looks amazing. Let me know what you think....

lookin' good. glad ya got them out of the auto feeding shit. But you should build a makeshift shelf under the babies in the beer cups. They are really stretched.(2-3 inches is ideal for CFL's, a little less than 2 inches if you can keep the temps at a constant 72.)

Loving the mylar though. Also, go by the actual wattage on the CFL's. 9 x 26 is what you're running. =) Hehe, another also. >.> Are ya ph'ing anything or just running with whatever your tap comes out at?:smokin:

Thanks for stopping by.

Ya they are stretched cause i left them in the dark for too long. Im not very concerned right now, they will be strong plants.

Temps are running between 68-85 day and night.

I am ph'ing, tap water is 7 and im bring it down to about 6 before i use it.

Plants are looking great!

If I may add one thing... the clear plastic cups are not the best, because the roots will want to grow to the edges, but they don't like light. I'd cover up the sides of those cups with something light-proof.

Otherwise, keep up the good work, and keep us updated!

albatrossSKY
03-30-2009, 01:51 PM
when i woke up i look at the cups and sure enough the roots have hit the sides. im gonna tape them up right now. how long do you think i should wait before transplanting those into real pots?

Kinda have to just go by feel... If you transplant too soon, the roots will be encouraged to spread and grow, which will slow down growth above ground. If you wait too long, you will get root-bound, which is not good at all. This explains it in a little more detail:

http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-growing/151941-importance-continuous-canopy-its-all-about-efficiency-baby.html

I like to let the roots "bunch up" a little on the bottom of the cup before I transplant.

albatrossSKY
03-30-2009, 02:28 PM
thanks, wen i just taped them up i could see the tap root at the bottom of the cup, i think im gonna give them another week max then move to bigger pots.

OH! when i was inspecting the plants i lifted one up and a fly came out from under it. i checked all the other girls and nothing. should i be worried about this or is it possible that it is just a single fly? Ive read about spidermites but have not heard anything about anyone with flies. thanks in advance

quarteroy
03-30-2009, 06:51 PM
I just had Sarcid flies/ fungus gnats they suck the problem isn't the flies its the larva that feed on the roots. I wound up with mine because i was keeping my soil to moist all the time. i think. Organicide at home depot is what Whiskytango recommended to me. used it and changed soil (when i re potted) that's how i got rid of them. But You need to look up pictures to see what kind of fly it was there are several others all of them are not really a good thing. if you don't see any more I wouldn't worry about it but take a close look at the fly and google "Cannabis pests" compare and it will tell you how to get rid of them.

RamblerGambler
03-30-2009, 07:19 PM
The tap root tends to hit bottom far sooner than the rest of the root system, so you should still have a few days of growth in the cup at least.

i was thinking about topping them, but do you think its too soon?
and ive never done it before so i dont want to mess the plant up either.

i basically know you have to cut the new growth at the top as close to the two branches as you can. thats what i believe topping to be. which will then hopefully give you 2 colas instead of one. someone correct me please...
if anyone knows of a guide with clear pictures and instructions i would love that

i found this

ohh, coool, well i mean some plants show signs of sex in veg, but the reason its best to wait a whle before flower is because the plant usually only doubles in size during flowering (the rest of energy goes to bud sites).. so more budsites and fan leaves more budsites and buds and greater capital growth (total height) in the flowering stage.

meh thats just my 5 cents i guess :) look forward to the macro geeza,

So this is the 30th day since they were germed. All look healthy. One is growing much faster than the others, im scared its gonna turn out to be a male, but whatever good exp. Gonna do my first topping in the next couple days, and will take a before and after shot. Like I said in my last post I watered with the GrowBig and BigBloom with 3ish drops of superthrive, It really seems like its working well.

Im not too expierenced. but shouldnt your lights be closer to your large plants? i mean they are fine for the small clones, but shouldnt the larger ones be close to the light bulbs?

Moved some of the pots around in the box, its getting kind of crowded. I have transplanted 2 of the "mids" plants into larger pots, they should be taking off soon, I also left 2 in the small cups and will see what happens.

The count is 4 plants from regs, 4 plants from mids. Im thinking realistically i can only have 3 maybe 4 plants in the box for flower mode. And decided I will wait another 20 or so days before i induce flowering.

As it looks now

LSTing or top/FIM would increase your yields, but it really depends on how much time you want to put into your ladies. check out my first grow log, i LSTd those bitches. with your headroom though i would maybe do it a bit and then let them run. just my opinion there.

It is literally greenville inside this box.

Transplanted into 7x5 inch square pots. way bigger than the shitty pots they were in. i expect a lot of growth in the coming days as they adjust to there new homes.

While i was at the store i bought Fox Farm Tiger Bloom and will start to incorporate that soon. Also picked up 12 23w 2700k cfls. Flowering will begin in about 9 more days.

Have been running a steady 73-80 degrees since i got my inline duct fan, i love it.

Oh and some of the bottom leaves are yellow but i think its cause they were pinched between the pots when i would take them out and put them back in for waterings. im just gonna leave them on there and let them fall off.

ive been saying that im gonna flower them on 4/21 which is 5 days away so we will see what happens when i get to that day i guess.

All right ladies and gents, ive been drinking and smoking since the morning started and its going well for me. Happy 4/20 to all.

Watered the plants last night following the fox farms feed schedule. 1 tsp big bloom 2 tsp grow big and tiger bloom then a few drops of superthrive and a ph lowerer. today they look bigger and greener.

the lst method has worked out really well on one of my plants, it has like 5 tops now and all i did was bend it for like 3 days.

as far as the pre flowers go i really cant tell either way at the moment. i do believe i will start the flowering process tonight. switching the timer to 12/12 when the lights go off.

oh and i added 3 more cfls yesterday. hope it helps the yield.

with the fox farm feeding schedule, you should be feeding teaspoons (tsp) of grow big and tiger bloom (during the appropriate times of course). the big bloom should be TABLESPOONS (TBSP).

i've also been advised to feed them 1/2 of what's recommended twice a week for the full dosage as the can be a little "hot".

looking damn good though!

After doing some reading i decided to do 75% 2700k and 25% 6500k for the flowering and i can really see the difference in just a few days.

They are doing so good. still cant tell if this other one is a male or female its taking forever to show. Like it has balls or pistils coming in but they are too small to tell at this point. The 2 confirmed females and doing so good, getting nice and hairy, ill show you in a few more days.

Oh! I just added a 15w fluro tube to the bottom of the plants, hopefully to get some of those leaves that were curling and dying to stop.

Im more into this grow then i was when it started.

If it has balls/nuts it is definitely a male...Usually when they show female flowers it's only a single calyx or two coming from the branch. Usually the males cluster rather quickly.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the bottom leaves below the canopy dying as you are using CFLs and they don't have much penetration, so that is why they will dye towards the bottom like that. Just let them die naturally and take them off from there. With CFLs a lot of times will be used with SOG or ScrOG so that they concentrate all the light at the top of the canopy.

For anyone curious, those little spikes that SKY first thought were preflowers are called stipules. They used to always confuse the crap out of me too. :) And another thing you can usually tell sex by is that usually if the nodes are swollen then it's female. It reminds me of a muffin top spreading around the base of the petiole. :)

So is it just my plants or are they way thirstier in the flower stage?

Anyway, Just watered them. I see browning on the tips probably because ive been using nutes with every water. But im gonna take it easy with that from now on.

The "mids" plant, though the smallest looks like it will produce the best bud. it has more hair than any others at this point but hey its still early in the game.

log is good a few more pics mainly close up ones if its doable would be cool. most digital cameras have ways to get close up even if they are crappy you just have to play with them to figure it out. id like to see some of dem hairs. and wow lucky you with the females. I'm so jealous send some of that lady luck(wow great pun) this way. this last batch out of 6 seeds 4 were male man if i had your results i would have stuck with regular seeds. Also wondering did your plants seem more sativa or indica? Kinda look sativa to me now... could be a long flower for ya but damn a good yield those things are huge. how big are your pots you have them in? if you think you might need to transplant don't wait too much longer into flower the earlier the better. wow:stoned: im stoned and rambling way too much sorry.

Peace

SKY, you have some trees on your hands! I'm glad to see your mids have come up quickly from last place to first - I remember reading how that plant was far behind the others.

Nice work on all of them - you may want to LST them to keep them from putting on much more height, if indeed it is a concern of yours.

Back after the forums were pissing me off by being down. Hopefully no more slow downs now.

Anyway all is well in the grow box. There was one more male apparently so i chopped him. Leaving me with just 3 now. But its all good. They look like winners.

I transplanted the one i Lsted into a 3.5 gallon pot because it was drying out so fast, like i would have to water everyday or the leaves would droop. It took nicely to its repotting.

Now for the pictures. (drum roll please)

(as for the obvious nute burn, i all ready know and have toned down the nutes)

Hair City, Hairville, Fuzz Town all words i could use to describe whats happening to these plants.

Looking good my friend. So far looks live you've treated your ladies pretty well. How much height(stretch) you have left before they start to fill in?
