I talked to my dad tonight and told him what I was wanting to do, which is grow in my room. While he doesn't smoke at all, he is fascinated by science and agreed to help me out with whatever he could. He also owns an electrical business and lighting store so thats a perk lol.

Anyways, I have to hide it from my mom so I was thinking of building a box that is 18" x 18" x 60". I was thinking of running two strips of flouros down each side of the box and using CFL's at the top. Good idea or not so much?

As for ventilation, I was thinking of mounting two small computer case fans at the bottom for intake and two more at the top for exhaust. Those fans would just be the basic 120mm. Sound sufficient?

My last concern would be the number of plants. I thought since this is my first grow I would just grow 2 plants so I can give each as much attention as possible to get in the swing of growing. Could this box hold more or just be used for a single plant?

I've got a few books I've been reading everyday and been trolling the forums quite a bit so I think I have a pretty good grasp so far just lacking the experience side of things. Any thoughts, concerns, advice or general knowledge is much obliged!

I would go with a bigger box if you plan to run fluoros across. I have an 18x18 grow box and the only fluoro tubes I have found are 20' which is very inconvenient. If you do decide to stick with that ratio though, 18' rubbermaid boxes will work nice. You can peep my setup(link at the bottom) if you want. I just started a similar project which is also stealth.

What is usually objected to, is growing without the parent's knowledge- which IS uncool. But if Dad is in on it, different story!

My guess is that Dad may have had a puff or two in the past-judging from how easily he was persuaded. "fascinated by the science" Indeed! LOL! :S2:

And you might want to run a search on LED lights.

18x18 isn't near big enough for one plant let alone 2 of them. My cab is a 6ft triangle and its almost not big enough for 3 plants. In the attached pics, there is only 1 plant in the cab.

There are 10 CFLs over the top and 10 dual tube 4ft flouro fixtures around the sides. I run the CFLs only till they get transplanted into 5 gal buckets, when they get put into flower, then I turn on the side lights also.

Momma's gonna smell the plant eventually, so look into getting some kind of odor neutralizer...

I would also recommend a wider closet for 2 plants. My closet is 22.5" x 22.5" and I fit two plants in there with SCROG (2nd link in my sig). It really depends on the strain you choose also. It's tough to make recommendations on # of plants, because of all the different factors affecting the size of the plants. Really, you can fit as many plants in that space as you can fit pots, just depends on the strain and how long you veg for (amongst other things like lighting and nutrients). Stay away from sativa dominant strains (9+ flowering weeks), as you will run out of room fast. Trial and error is the best way to learn

Good luck

Haha there's absolutely no way my dad would want to test the end result of the science project, it would be pretty funny though.

As for the size of the cab, I could extend out to 22 x 22 but it would be a little cramped. Definitely do-able though.

I know a lot of technicalities are dependent on the strain being grown, and the strain I'm going with is just some bagseed. The most I know about that is that it is some type of purple strain that has been floating around town lately. Not the slightest clue to percentages of indica/sativa though.

Also, tonight a huge storm is rolling through so the night is being dedicated to drawing up plans of the box with selection of where to put lights. Hopefully I can get those up tonight and get some more input.

Thanks for the info so far guys and gals!!

Forgot to add this little tidbit, but I can also extend my height to around 7ft if need be.

Are your parents divorced? Seriously because that is weird to have one parent say yes and the other not know.

If they aren't they may need to go to counseling after this fight that I see coming in the future.

I appreciate the concern but they have been happily married for 31 years and I wouldn't count on them needing counseling. They have had bigger conflicts with my other siblings to fight about. Back to the topic, I've decided I'm just going to roll with one plant on the first grow. That way I can devote full attention to it and any problems that may arise. My plans are almost done so I'll post them when completed. Cheers!

Hey Mississippi, do you think it would be worth it to go ahead and buy some feminized seeds just to make sure I get females for the first grow?

Hey Mississippi, do you think it would be worth it to go ahead and buy some feminized seeds just to make sure I get females for the first grow?

I know you probably want a pro advise, But I would say go for Fem. But also start with bagseed just to get a little exp. Would you really wanna spend that money an you not have the results you hope for."Out Money" Growing bagseed is good o get some exp. in growing and you said this was a ....experiment right..? Just my own personal opinion I know id be pretty upset with myself with a bad outcome. But you may have a natural green thumb.

GOOD LUCK....!

With such a small operation, I'd say it's ok to get some fem seeds. The ones I bought were 25â?¬ for 5 seeds, so if you are only growing one or two at a time, it's not going to be a big waste of money if a couple of them die. :twocents:

If you are old enough and mature enough to ask dad to let you grow then why are you both hiding it from your mom? Does your dad live in the same house as her? And he agrees that the best course of action is to hide a felony from your mom, in her house? If you are carded for cannabis use/growing...you should march right up to her and tell her the doctor prescribed the meds, and that you could use her help.

You are overtly pitting your mom against your dad, but it sounds like you've gotten pretty good at it. Playing these games are good way to develop family unity, strength, hope and trust. And I hope it all works out, as the memory of disrespect lasts a lifetime. (especially in parents)

So which one do you respect more? Mom for having the morals to make her values known and adhered-to, or dad...because his moral standards are cool and he doesn't really give a shit what you do?

Factoring in all you've said...IMHO you sound underage, full of shit, and disrespectful of at least one of your parents.

Rusty I appreciate your concern for my family life, but your assumptions on the topic of my family are not needed nor are they wanted. Thanks though. Any advice you have on the subject of growing is welcome though.

Bigtopsfinn, I thought about it more and was kinda set on getting the fem seeds and reading your thoughts put the nail in the coffin. I appreciate it.

Manutd I would still start growing a bagseed til you get your Fem. So you will have a start already an not make mistake with the Fem. Use the bagseed as experiment so you know what kinda to suspect. But that just my opinion, But best of luck for ya... Rusty has alot of knowledge to FYI so I would be a little more respectful as people do not like disrespect around theses boards. Just a thought...

Actually, I have no concern for your family. But I do care about this family, and we don't cater to children here at CanCom. Argue and whine all you want, but I'm not the one with a fucked-up story nobody here believes as the truth.

Thanks though. Any advice you have on the subject of growing is welcome though.

No, I don't think so. I believe I'll reserve my right to refuse service, and send you on your merry way. But if there is someone out here that wants to help a childishly selfilsh and manipulative child that pits mom versus dad in an effort to set-up a felonious growroom without permission...be my guest. In my eyes...you are not welcome here...but I am only one of many. Perhaps someone else will come along and help put that final nail in your family's coffin.

Rusty is a long time member of this site, and has a whole lot of lifes experiences behind him. He is speaking from experience and common sense. You would do well to not just listen to him, but also pay attention to what he is telling you. Its not "psychoanalystic crap" as you put it, its real life.
When you have grown and have kids of your own, you will see the truth of what Rusty is telling you.
