America is supposed to be one of the greatest democracies ever (next to the Roman Empire).

But are we really living in a democracy or just a place where there is allot of PR bullshit going around?

I still don't understand, how is medical marijuana legal under state law, but illegal under federal law.

The people have clearly spoken. We want marijuana to be legal, because we are sick and your "Legal" drugs ain't workin'.

Why is it that the federal government cannot recognize that? In a democratic society people's concerns and wants matter and get treated. Not ignored.

you must have flunked high school Civics class ... the USA is NOT a 'Democracy', never was, wasn't supposed to be ... the USA IS a 'Republic', always was, and, is supposed to be ... HUGE differences between 'Democracy/Republic', go read up on it :smokin:

heh yeah, thats true America was setup as a republic. Which means everyone gets a say (right? right?). In a democracy not everyone gets a say only the majority. There is a big difference ;-)

uhh, it's worth mentioning that the patriot act isn't 'republican'. :| I don't want to sound too politically opinionated because I'm not, I try to avoid that shit :( Anyways.. I think this great country is as each day passes becoming more of a democracy than a republic

a true Democracy gives everyone equal say-so, which, would be nothing but Anarchy ... there's no way some people in this Forum would ever agree with me, and vice-versa ... that's why a representative Republic is a necessity, to reach decisions ... now, we just have to figure out a way to get rid of the thieves, idiots, and liars, in the Government :wtf: (I already know how, I'll elaborate, closer to the mid-term elections ;))

Being a republic doesn't mean you get any more say than a democracy. It just means you don't get to vote for your president. Thats really the only difference. Even if we did become a democracy we would still be voting for the same assholes.

Well republic or democracy, we are NOT as democratic as the government would like us to beleive. It's pretty much the same as all (or at least most) other countries where the rich have all the power and the poor have none. The only difference being that it's covered up in a way that seemingly gives us a choice, while it actually barely gives us a choice (our only 'choices' being when there are politions that DON'T lie... feel free to give an example if one exists... George Washington?)

I'm actually in American History right now, and the founding fathers really did create a very good system. The only problem is that they trusted everyone else to follow it exactly. In fact, most of them were strict constructionists, meaning they believed the federal government had ONLY the rights stated in the Constitution. Nearly everyone after them thought the opposite. I seem to remember there being a clause somewhere along the lines of "All powers not hereby mentioned are granted to the state" (amendment 10?) that pretty much makes almost everything the government does 'illegal', technically speaking.

Of course, it all depends how you interpret the Constitution. Unfortunately, government officials like to interpret it the way that benefits them and only them.

keep in mind, Thomas Jefferson warned, the Government was only expected to last a maximum of 200 years (1776-1976), at which time an armed insurrection would be required, to re-establish the people's Government (THIS is the reason for citizens with guns, not squirrel-hunting) ... of course, he didn't know our guns would be at constant risk of seizure, or that our citizens would become cowering, gutless, sheep :wtf: ... some things ya just can't plan ahead for :smokin:

Thomas Jefferson I think was probably the smartest of our forefathers. He seemed to be the only one who spoke the truth about where this country was headed and what it would take for the citizens to maintain control of the government. And as we've seen, he was right. We've lost control. The ONLY time the citizens have had any say was when we all stood together and spoke out about an issue. We need to exercaise that 1st amendment right every time we can.
These people aren't smarter than us,they aren't better than us, they have no great insight as to what is needed in this country. They just had the contacts for big money to get themselves elected.
