I've been thinking about coming to Cali, possibly just for a few months or possibly forever. I just want to get out of here.
I was wondering if there is anyone here who was like me and moved to Cali. Share some experiences if you can. Or even if you are just like me and are dreaming about moving, go ahead and put your plan on paper.
I've never lived in a big city, but I wouldn't mind living in the bush in norcal either.

I'm dreaming about moving, yes. Not sure if I will end up moving to Cali, but it doesn't sounds too ridiculous considering that I have friends down in the Carlsbad/Bay Area.
I have goals that won't see their share of sunlight if I don't move sometime within the next year. I have a steady job, a somewhat stable group of party friends. I'm willing to give up what I have here in order to take a risk and set some of my goals into motion.
If moving is a dream you have, I just want to ask if you have a plan, do you have contacts, or is this going to be a fresh start? Either way, it will be fun and will be an experience that can be one of the best you've had.
Be safe, think things over, and HAVE FUN. I think moving to Cali for the Medical laws is reason enough, but for me it's not =)
It's illegal, and we smoke that stuff. Oh yes, that's never going to change.
Posivibes, man.

Damn Johnny, this comes at a time when I visited California. I was there for the weekend to toss my dad's ashes and visit family. Needless to say I'm seriously considering moving to California since the majority of my family is there anyway and cannabis runs in the family tree. I found out when my father first caught me toking, he smoked my damn stash! Bastard!
Anyway, just being a weekend in California mellowed me out so much, californicated I like to call it. Part of the reason is because my family is so cool. The rest is because people in general are just more chill, even the uptight ones. Plus I smoke cannabis all the time and the attitude, at least where I was, in Oakland, was so laid-back we were just sitting there smoking in the street with people passing it by.
I just want to be apart of the mellowness and have less stress in general, be around good weather all the time, be close to my family which I have so much in common with. I have the opportunity because my cousin lives in the middle of Oakland and has invited me to come and live there. I have an opportunity put out for me on a platter.
Being from the east side, going to California and experiencing for me is like a dream. Part of me wants it to remain that, California as merely an escape, I'm sure it's very different if I actually lived there. But every time I go to California, I come back feeling much better.

California is crazy expensive, and rapidly getting worse ... there are NO jobs, the Liberals have driven big business out of the state, due to ridiculous regulations, and taxes ... CA is bankrupt, and just raised our taxes to the nation's highest ... in August, my van's license registration will be due, and will run about $700+ ... for one year ! :wtf: ... I will join the other emigrants, and leave the state, when it comes due ... besides, even the weather here sucks lately ... I've been here 27 years, and I've just about had enough of the nonsense ... ...
oh yeah, you can smoke pot (big fucking deal) :wtf:

I moved to southern cal when I was 19 with a buddy from high school and loved it! My buddy would mostly just get a job long eneogh to get a paycheck and then get a bag and quit. :stoned: but at least we always had good smoke and the party was always at our place. I ended up staying there for years to graduate college and shit. UC's and state colleges there are great.
I haven't lived there for a while but I mostly miss the peaceful sound of the Pacific Ocean waves crashing on shore. To me there was nothing more relaxing than that. Expensive as hell to live there, tho. At least where I lived, it might be more reasonable up north away from the city's. :greenthumb:

rift walker - I'm just like you man I have everything I need here. But there's so much more I want. I have a good life set up for me here but there's a lot more out there. You'll make new friends no problem and family will always be around if you make the effort. And my plan was just to go. No contacts. No nothing. Just like they used to do it in the old days.
thcbongman - Sounds like you have the best family ever. I'm jealous man almost my entire family is anti-marijuana with the exception of a few cousins. I would jump at an opportunity like yours man, go live with family, work a little job or the family business, just chill out and live life easily. A life without all these frills would be so nice. I'd rather spend my nights watching the sun go down and talking the night away.
image - You seem a little jaded my friend. I hear you on the car insurance though, up here in Manitoba we have public insurance. I pay about $1200 a year to insure my truck. So I'm used to expensive. Plus its good that it's expensive, that means only people that really want to live there actually stay. The middle of the country is for people who gave up on their dreams.

'jaded' is a perfect description, my friend  ... when you're pushing 60, and you've seen so much of of the world turn to shit, ya get this way ;) ... I am so glad I'm not young, and trying to 'make it' supporting a family ... if ya think times are hard and ugly NOW, just wait and see :(

Are you going with a naked heart? Cause I heard theres a girl there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
This is my first post in a hell of a long time, If you go anywhere go to the bay area, thats where I grew up till I moved to New Zealand last year. Like others have said though its one of Americas many epiecenters of fuckedness, if you did a blind move there it would be real tough. Now is a greater time than any to consider the rest of the world dude. New Zealand has jobs, a massive weed culture, and a hard on for North Americans that arn't arrogant. If I weren't here id make a run for Thailand and chill out through the worldwide shit storm. Good luck brother.

NextLine - Hey buddy nice to see you around. It's funny that you ask if my heart is naked, cause that happens to be a reason I'm going. I've been feeling the need to get the hell out of here for the last year or so, but then I found a girl and I was happy. Until that ended. It was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back because now I'm really sick of this town. I hope I find a California love, and go to the beach every night and blaze the sun down. That's the life I long for.
New Zealand you say.. well man to tell you the truth I don't really have a plan for the next.. however long I live for. All I know is I'm going to work one more summer of construction here and save up all my money. I should have about 10 grand in the bank after this work season. Then I'll finish football season (ends in October) and then I'm gone. All I know is where I'm starting. My plan is to go to Vancouver, rent a car and start driving south on the Pacific Coast Highway. Always wanted to do that.. just drive for 1500 miles through the most beautiful scenery there is. If I find something I like along the way that I like then I'll stop and live there for a while. There's always need for labour. If not then I'll get on a plane over the ocean. I have a lot of friends who are staying in Australia right now that I could squat with for a few months. Or I might go somewhere totally random. Like Vietnam.

Cali sounds like it's too crowded...or is it just me? When I was stoned once I thought I should go deep deep into the wilderness somewhere like the movie Into the Wild almost. I would bring as much supplies with to live off the land, build some kind of shack to live in, and grow a medium sized pot garden. After harvest go back to real world but leave everything out in the wilderness in case you ever want to go back. lol It could be done but I think I would pick the spot first, build a living area, supply yourself, THEN move out there to live for how ever long. There is something to be said for the peace nature can bring to man. Cali sounds fun too if you go norcal. :hippy:

I live in Ga right now and im on the same page as you. Tired of the same city, same ppl, and looking for a laid back life style. This May, im moving out to Humboldt county to stay with family and test the waters. Not really sure what ill do when i get there. Idealy i wanna learn to blow glass, spend my afternoons with a case of beer on the beach, a few blunts and some cool ppl, but im not too certain what to expect. so any one in eureka/humboldt area, if you have any advice to offer it would be greatly appreciated!
