i have a question about cool tubes. well i few questions.
When using one do you lose any lumens? and if so is it werth it to have one?
i'm not to the point yet where im ready to use hps but it wont be long befor i am.
Is this fan 6 inch In-Line Fan 268 CFM EliteHydro.com (http://www.elitehydro.com/proddetail.php?prod=ACDF6) larg enough for a 250 or 400 watt hps wit cool tube?
Slowly but sure i'm figuring everything out. thnx for all the help

Not sure, but any loss would be greatly offset by the fact that you can keep your plants much closer to the light. Definitely worth it for me:thumbsup:

Yes that is plenty for a 400w, maybe even 600w(??).
I'm using a 129cfm 100cm inline fan for my 400w hps cooltube, and also as an exhaust connected to my carbon filter... No other exhaust or intake fans. But I have a very small space... That 268cfm fan might be enough for your whole space, depending on how large the area is. http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-growing/132514-noobs-guide-growroom-set-up-work-progress.html#post1634834 That has a way to calculate how many cfm's you need and much more.

Yes u do lose some lumen s. but not very much, u gain it back by moving your plants closer.
I also think that your 268 is big enough for a 1000 watt hps cool tube, but not big enough for a carbon filter. (obviously)
I have one, and i clean the glass once a week to make sure efficiency is kept up.

Why not? My carbon filter is rated at 250m3 per hour, and my fan is 220m3 per hour... They work great.

Well I stand corrected. Good to know. 268 is officially enough for a lot.

wow thnx for the quick response.
When you say your carbon filter are you talking about a manufactured one or a home made one? and how do i know the m3 per hour?
on a side not. i got some 6500k cfl's because when i was at the store i fergot which was the "red" light. i just moved my plants to bloom and changed from 3x13w 3000k clf's to 6x23w 6500k cfl's.
My question. can i make do with the 6500k for now? or is it really important to get the other spectrum?
btw the plants look rather health. n my first grow so i'm stoked

I bought mine pre-manufactured, and they gave a rating in m3 (bought it from Germany). Costs a little more, but it is very difficult to build my own here where I live.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with cfl's, but you will get better results with the correct spectrum. Anyway to return those?

I really should stop being cheep and get the other ones but you know how it is... like 250$ already spent and when my fan n nutes n other stuff comes in i'll be at close to 500. still my fist set up so i'm trying to skimp a lil....
i live in a shity northern town so i kinow how it is not being able to get things... whats the site you got your filter from finn? and if u could would you use a homemade one vs. the one you use now?

I bought mine in a package from this site...
Carbon filter+fan (http://www.udopea.de/product_info.php/info/p14768_Fan-Set--small---with-accessories.html)
By itself, the carbon filter is 79â?¬. It works fantastic. Now the only time I can smell the plants is if the door to my closet is open. For me, the odor control is most important, so I'd rather buy something which is going to work from a reputable place than try to make something myself.
For my first grow, the only ventilation I had was a fan blowing directly on the plant... LOL... but somehow I had good results. It was very risky, though, because the whole apartment building smelled at times...

how often do you need to change the filter?
by the sounds of it i'll be buying a pre made one.

I think it's about every 6 months... probably depends on amount of active carbon, cfm's, ft.^3 , number of plants, etc... but eventually it will need re-filling.

how do you know when to change the filter?
is there a formula or general rule?

Most of them, will say 6-12 months... I know they can last longer or less. Depends how often its on and how much activated carbon comes accross smells that require (are automatically) caught by the filter!!
But my general rule is, if it smells dank, swap your coal tank..
checkout my grow log too, just installed my own cooltube..
Peace,
