IN THIS ERA OUR CITIES HAVE BECOME GIANTS OF STEEL AND CONCRETE ORGANISED BY COMPUTERS AND ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY
IT MAKES US FEEL SAFE TO THINK THAT MAN HAS CONTROL OF HIS ENVIROMENT - THAT SCIENCE AND LOGIC HAVE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING, AND YET - THERE ARE MANY PHENONMEN THAT REACH BEYOND OUR KNOWLEDGE AND REASON - BUT WE DONT ACCEPT THEM - AND SO WE DENY THEY EXIST
MANKIND CLINGS TO IDEAS OF HAPPINESS AND ORDER
PURSUING TEMPORARY DESIGNS AND PLEASURES - NOT WANTING TO EXPERIENCE OR UNDERSTAND THE FEARFUL DIMENSIONS OF DARKNESS THAHT RUN PARRALELL TO THE WORLD - WE THINK WE KNOW.

I agree. We havnt been told everything. Society shouldnt be kept in the dark at all. How long did it take for us to hear about the cloned sheep after it was born?
Yeah, alot of us like to believe "they" (powers that be) wouldn't let anything happen to us, that "they" have much more control in the world, then just take comfort in the structure and security of science and technology.
But I wouldn't extend this ignorance too far. Because "they" understand the reality- it is just neither possible nor beneficial for everyone to understand (think about it- you want to keep the masses "...clinging to the ideas of order and happines" to some degree.) Those on the frontiers- scientists, engineers; and even lawmakers, understand that despite all our advances, we still live in a most fragile, unpredictable, and dangerous environment; actually probably more people than you give credit for.
I would say the same about the denial of phenomenon outside our realm of understanding. Scientists and researchers do not deny anything that can be objectively tested and studied, and readily admit there are even ways in which we have to change our previous notions of how the universe works For instance, when quantum physics started revealing "impossible" experimental results, scientists just didn't ignore the fact that a subatomic particle can exist in two places at once (despite having no comprehension of it within their current framework). It had to be studied and adapted. The only phen. that is ignored are those with which we have no means of measuring, or repeatedly fail in controlled experimental environments- parapsychology, esp, telecognition/kinesis, reincarnation, etc. And even those are not fully ignored/denied (there are professionals who "study" them; it just can't always be done in a scientific manner).
"BUT WE DONT ACCEPT THEM - AND SO WE DENY THEY EXIST "Remember, not accepting something is not the same as denying it exists. For example, I have never seen enough supportive evidence (for me) that aliens exist, or have visited us, so I do not accept as truth that aliens exist. I also do not deny the possiblity- this would be equally irresponsible (as I have not seen supporting evidence to the contrary). Skepticism is good, but skepticism to the extreme of denying anything that does not fit your own system is no longer really skepticism (because you are not being skeptical of your self).
And remember, just like keeping the masses well fed on "...the ideas of order and happiness" has it advantages, so does keeping them UNaware of some phenomenon... (for a while anyways).
But if it bothers you that much (ENOUGH TO PREACH IT IN CAPS!), realize that more and more people in the world are now "waking up," considering how difficult 911's and tsunamies are to ignore!
