i have just bought myself a new clarinet, i used to play when i was younger and to a pretty good standard, i mean it was never going to be a career option but i enjoyed it, it gave me an escape and a way of being creative and artistic. i havent played since having children and i never really had an incentive to pick it up again until recently. i am surrounded by music all day every day my boyfriend plays bass guitar and alot of my friends play various instruments but none of which i saw as compatible with the clarinet or the music styles i used to play which were pretty classical, until one of my friends introduced me to a viola player who like me hadnt played much in years he never had a reason to so we made a deal that if he picks up the viola again i would pick up the clarinet again only this time i dont want to play classical music so we decided to go for folk music instead. i'm all ready enjoying the new challenge and i'm looking forward to having a jam with a few friend who between them can play drums, guitar, penny whistle and of course viola and clarinet. it should be fun, i'm all ready getting back into the flow again.
i strongly urge anyone who has given up playing an instrument and has thought about starting again to do it.

wishing you good luck in your musical journey(s), it can really be that, or what, we want :)
Hope that it takes your mind away from the propesterous reality everybody else seems to live in, works for me

I recently started playing guitar. I always to start, just never had a guitar. I'm doing quit well after about 2 weeks. My girlfriend wants to start playing clarinet again, she used to be real good at it.

I played guitar for years but changed to the 5 string banjo about a year ago. Not sure why, the challenge I think. Its real tricky and I cant find anyone who wants to play with me :(
I tried playing the clarinet when I was about 10yo but couldn't get a decent sound out of it. I fact at the school concert my teacher agreed with me that it was better for all concerned if I just played my guitar instead!:pimp:

I've played guitar for almost 18 years, also play mandolin, bass and dulcimer and am a percussionist, as well. I played clarinet in school (don't have the breath for it now), and took piano lessons for 5 years but discovered that I like stringed instruments or things I can shake and bang on the best. Banjo is next on my list. I have occasionally played "semi-professionally", but don't really care for the onstage part. I'd much rather get together with a bunch of friends and just jam.
